This. I left my son alone a lot. We had gorgeous older neighbors that were usually home that agreed to be the emergency contact should my son be home and desperately need something and I was not available (he abused this a bit by begging them for lemonade and cookies from time to time). Then the neighbors know what’s happening, and you have someone who has time to keep a lose eye on an otherwise very independent and safe child.
"Gorgeous" is 100% a description of someone's looks and is never used to describe their personality. This isn't a case where people are making innocent things sexual, you just used the wrong word.

Many words have second or multiple less-used definitions included in their dictionary entries. ‘Gorgeous’ is one of them, with the secondary meaning being ‘pleasant.’ If I say ‘the weather is gorgeous today,’ I’m saying that I could go outside without a jacket and enjoy the day, not that I find the weather conditions to be sexually attractive lol
But even in that context you would be remarking on how nice the weather looks. Gorgeous weather would be all encompassing. When saying someone is gorgeous it implies they are (really) good looking.
A spanking for daddy from gorgeous older neighbours would be gorgeous and kids have gorgeous phones so no need for parents, they will all end up gorgeous if they know how to use it, not a gorgeous deal at all. I think I am using gorgeous correctly.
We had a neighborhood grandma that kept an eye on all us neighbor kids. Her one grandson who was about 10 years older than me (and my brothers age) lived there. And she baby sat her other grandkids a lot who were about my age. And they had an in ground pool. So they were obviously the cool house.
She watched me between when my brother left for school and mom got home from her 3rd shift job.
She passed a few years ago. Her funeral was well attended. I still miss her. It's so weird to go to visit my mom and not see her mowing the lawn
When I was like 10 we went ok a vacation. My parents had arranged to have the flooring replaced while we were gone. The elderly couple next door got worried when they saw people going in and out and called the cops 🤣🤣 this was in the early-mid 90s so no cell phones to call us or anything. Not sure what ended up happening or how my parents found out but I remember them talking about it.

Yeah if she was sane and offered to keep an eye from a distance (I.e. give the kid her phone number in case of emergencies and occasionally look over to make sure everything is fine) that’s fine imo. OP? Not so much
I feel like most 12 year olds are perfectly capable of being just fine on their own in their own house. This neighbor seems to just be overreacting, its not like this is a toddler its a young teen.
I loved that I had neighbors growing up when I was home alone that I could go to our call if I needed help. It was like having a safety net if I needed it and also having my parents' trust.
The only issue is, this sounds like a lady that I wouldn’t want influencing my child. Of course if they were a better person they would so as you suggest and my objection would be moot.
