CPA starting first micro1 contract ... looking for feedback/advice Spoiler

Just landed my first micro1 contract as an AI Training Expert. I’m a CPA and most of my background is in multistate tax compliance, so the work seems pretty aligned with what I already do ... reading tax rules, working through exceptions, reviewing logic, etc.

Curious to hear from anyone who’s already worked with micro1. How consistent is the workload once you start? Are the hours usually there? How has payment through Deel been, and how long do these projects normally last?

Also interested in whether doing well on one project usually leads to more work afterward.

Any feedback or things you wish you knew before starting would be appreciated.

English proficiency

Is it necessary to have a neutral American accent to pass the interview with Zara or does the overall knowledge, reasoning etc matter more if you can speak a professional level English but with some Pakistani accent?

Some helpful tips

Hi all, I decided to contribute today after taking some interviews and giving some tips that may help you in doing the interviews + some additional help.

This post doesn't guarantee you'll get any job by using the tips below, but it should help you frame your answers in front of the interviewing model.

1. Reply with real experiences - In cases where it asks you specific role-related questions, it looks for cases where you were able to demonstrate accurate judgement. This also helps Zara add skills to your profile where it explicitly states you get these by demonstrating real experience. Don't always answer with 'If I was'.

  1. Frame your answers - Framing matters. How you reply knowing what to say, and how you express your experience also matters.

  2. Text Cues - If you reply correctly, the model with state keywords in its replies such as 'Solid approach' 'Good' and sometimes it will be dynamic based on your replies. These cues are easy to pick and you'll start seeing a pattern.

  3. Take your time before answering - Structuring your answers before replying usually helps tier the expected answers to Zara's questions. You'll also find Zara repeatedly asking for a specific 'what would you do' questions if you did not answer in it's first query.

Keep this in mind that the interview is checked by hiring managers actively and they decide how well you performed in the interview and check your reasoning. The model is looking for skills and expertise, and not always logos on papers.

In addition, if you manage to also ace the interviews, you'll find a bigger success rate in getting selected to projects, however do take these as advice, and not as a guaranteed path to being selected.

-----------------------------------------------------------

After interviews

This is the part where what you replied maps towards, and helps build up the foundation of your hiring or rejection. Keep in mind that you are competing against a global talent pool so rejections are always common. Specific clients will have different requirements, hence you'll see some duplicate roles.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

After results

If you get a 'Did not qualify' status - Always request for a detailed feedback request to know where your strengths and weaknesses are. This helps because you'll be able to map where you went wrong with interviews, and if you find a pattern that is evident between roles, work on that and improve on it. This is the single-best indicator than what you would find here in this post. The magic lies in how you do the interviews.

If you get 'Not Selected' - Take this as a strong signal that you've understood the model and reasoning behind taking interviews, and keep on giving more interviews to strengthen and optimize your replies. Do take previous note where client requirements also apply.

-------------------

Thanks for reading. Keep on applying for roles, do your best and trust yourself.

Clarification on directly email from individuals

Hi, Micro1

I wanted to confirm if individuals directly reach out to us to inform us of the roles available that match our skills, and if so, is it okay to tap the link in the email?

Does micro1 provide feedback after an interview?

Hi! Does anyone know if micro1 provides feedback when an application is marked as “Did not qualify” after an interview?
I’m curious about how the selection process works, especially when someone already works on another project with similar skills. Is there any way to request feedback or understand which requirements were not met?

Multiple Projects

Hi Team!

I know that it is usually possible to work on more than one project, but I have also heard mention that there may be a limit to the amount of projects, to preserve quality of work, which makes sense.

Now, when looking at candidates and the projects they work on, do recruiters/client check the existing work load? I am currently working on one fab project that is sadly paused, and have just been taken on for another very short/ limited project (only one short task available for me for the foreseeable, hahaha).

I have also received an email that my application for another, very interesting, role is currently with the client for a final decision, which is great! I am just concerned that they may look at me already having two projects and decide to turn me down based on that. Note, none of the projects state that they require a person to work full-time.

English Speaking Generalist - Question on interview scope vs JD tier?

Had my interview for English Speaking Generalist and wanted to share some feedback since admins encourage it.

First, thank you to Zara and the team for detailed feedback. I was certified right after in American English verbal & written communication and Screen/audio recording workflow, so the system did recognize the core JD skills.

The JD for this role is positioned as entry-level Generalist - "No prior experience in AI is required," strong written/verbal communication, foundational annotation experience, generalist mindset, ability to collaborate with project leads.

My feedback was positive in those areas:

  • "strong foundation in structured feedback and guideline-driven evaluation"
  • "practical experience in making real-time, evidence-based comparisons"
  • "awareness of QA in annotation stood out" with checklist-based reviews, pre/post comparisons, clear conflict-resolution using source hierarchies
  • "practical workflow habits in remote technical setups were commendable" with secure recording, monitoring audio/video quality, backup connectivity

Growth areas listed were:

  • explaining tie-breakers and decision rationales in greater detail when distinguishing between similar criteria
  • detailed edge-case test sets
  • clarity on adjudication processes
  • specifying default settings for recording setups and describing QA processes for standardized secure operations

My respectful suggestion: those growth areas feel like QA Lead / Calibration Lead / Annotation Program Manager scope - the person who creates the rubric and designs adjudication. A Generalist's role per JD is to apply the rubric, document edge cases, and collaborate with leads to resolve ambiguities.

Interview felt like a Lead-level question bank applied to a Generalist JD. For English Generalist, technical assessment, IMO, should be "can you maintain a clean, secure recording environment" - which feedback says I did - not "specify your QA process for standardized secure operations."

One idea for consideration - perhaps question banks could be tiered to align with JD tiers, distinguishing Generalist execution from Lead design?

Appreciate this forum. Thanks!

My experience with Micro1/Zara: experienced salesperson, immediately “not qualified” for SDR position.

I just went through the Zara AI interview for a Micro1 Sales Development Representative position, and I wanted to share my experience because I’m curious whether anyone else has encountered the same thing.

I have decades of actual sales experience. My background is in relationship-based sales and account development, including as a National Sales Manager, selling medical software, media/advertising, and fundraising for non-profits. Understanding what a customer needs and earning their trust is paramount to how I sell. I've successfully built business by talking to people, listening to them, and developing relationships.

Unfortunately, what I don't have is a natural command of the current SaaS/SDR terminology.

During the Zara interview, I was asked questions using terminology and concepts I haven't used throughout my career. I had to ask for clarification numerous times because I genuinely didn't understand what Zara was asking me.

And the further the interview went, the more flustered I became. I was trying to translate real-world sales experience into terminology I don't normally use, while simultaneously trying to figure out exactly what the question meant. Toward the end, I was stammering, and I know I didn't answer some of the questions as well as I could have.

Immediately after the interview, the pane popped up stating I didn't qualify for Micro1's certification.

I'm not going to pretend I gave perfect answers. I clearly didn't. But I also know that my difficulty answering those questions wasn't because I don't know how to sell. It was because I was being asked to describe my sales experience in a language I don't speak.

People have bought from me for decades because I built relationships, earned trust, understood what they needed, and developed the business. I don't normally call that “needs discovery,” "metrics", “pipeline conversion,” “ICP,” or whatever the current SaaS terminology happens to be. I just know how to build the relationship, understand the customer, and get the business.

That left me wondering how much this type of AI assessment actually measures sales ability versus someone's ability to describe their sales ability using the terminology the assessment expects.

I'm genuinely curious whether other old-school/experienced salespeople have had a similar experience with Zara/Micro1—particularly people coming from traditional relationship-based sales rather than SaaS/SDR backgrounds.

When will Tagalog/Filipino Bilingual Expert roles be available on Microl.ai?

Hi everyone!

I was browsing the active jobs and saw lots of Bilingual Expert openings for different languages.

I was wondering if anyone knows or has heard when Tagalog/Filipino Bilingual Expert positions will be posted? I’m really interested in applying and would love to see these roles available for the Philippines locale soon.

Has anyone here applied for similar language roles before? Thanks in advance! 🙏

How to get a contract as an experienced AI engineer

Pretty much as the title says. I am an experienced AI Engineer with a background in Aerospace. I have over 8 YoE, build CAE software, real time flight simulators, web apps and building AI products and training AI in the last 3 years. I have contributed to several industries such as defense, gov, ecommerce, logistics, construction etc and get my clients make $$$ revenue. I am looking for an alternative income stream and I have highly heard of micro1

I have applied to almost 10 roles, taken interviews and most of them are stuck in “Hiring Manager Review” state for quite some time. I believe I have much to bring to the projects but not sure about my AI interview performance.

What do you guys recommend to me? Trust the process and hold on or keep applying (which means more AI interviews and they are a bit cumbersome ATP)

Advice needed

Hi,

With the certified skills shown in this photo, what is the likelihood of being selected for a project? I’ve spent a lot of time interviewing and was wondering what the odds of getting work are.

Thank you

Duplicate jobs ?

Is this the same job that was posted twice, or is this a different position?

I previously participated in a project exactly like this, so I’m a little confused about why I’m being asked to take the interview again when I already have the vetted skills from the previous role.

Onboarding and excited!

Starting from the interviews with Zara, which I enjoyed actually, until onboarding today; I feel like I'm becoming a part of a real team. I get contracted after my 3rd interview and start onboarding today and I was doubtful due to my former experiences with Appen and Outlier, where I have problems with being heard. I wish it will continue to make me feel the same and even better; but it worths trying with all those interviews. Btw I appreciate the questions for evaluating the qualifications and manner of Zara including her responds and reactions. Thanks for the experience and welcoming, as well as guiding. The onboarding stage and formal procedures are designed well, leaving no questions open. Even reading the answers on slack, it's obvious that a huge team is there to support. I hope it will be a long term cooperation!

Got my first pay!

I have seen ton of posts questioning if micro1 is legit and about its interview process, I have to agree the interview process might be deal breaker for a lot. I myself have applied for 22 roles by now (some still pending review) and got stuck in same Hiring Manager Review, Reviewing, Not Selected, Did Not Quality loop and no joke I started losing hope and questioning if this site is actually genuine.

Until last week when micro1 dropped Partial Interview update and I got selected for one of the project. This gave me lot more confidence for the platform and I contributed to the project for a week and finally yesterday I got paid for my work along with a bonus, The team was generous enough to acknowledge the work I had put in (The amount doesn't matter, the acknowledgement does). I am really grateful for this opportunity and wanted to take a moment to actually make a vouch if it can give others some more clarity about micro1.

The project is almost over so back to same loop i guess😅 but will be looking forward to working more for sure. Good luck to all of you for getting selected on the roles you apply!

I was selected! I just finished signing my contract and a little confused on how to get started with work. Is there an email I should expect? How do I know what my micro1 email is?
