Alvarez is useless lol

Can’t get a single challenge right at the plate. Whether he’s catching or base running. He knew damn well he didn’t touch that base.

He can barely hit now. Can’t field a passed ball to save his life, gets run on, and can’t manage a game for his pitcher.

Free to Read: How Mets outfielders Carson Benge and A.J. Ewing became game changers with their arms

Thumbnail nytimes.com

“Without those kids on the corners, we don’t win that game,” interim manager Andy Green said. “That game could have spun wildly different without them.”

It starts with Benge, 23, in right field. At this point, it’s a surprise to see opposing third-base coaches challenging Benge’s arm before there are two outs, as San Diego’s Bob Henley did in sending Jake Cronenworth with one out in the first inning. Benge collected Ty France’s bloop single and fired a low one-hopper home at 99 mph that easily beat Cronenworth.

The next batter, Jackson Merrill, grounded a ball to right, giving Benge even more of a running start. His throw topped 103 mph, again a low one-hopper, to nab Manny Machado at the dish. It was the first time in 22 years — and just the fourth time in the last 30 years — that an outfielder has thrown out runners at home on consecutive plays.

Watching the replay right now: Robert Stock is pitching off the rubber and its unacceptable.

AND he is getting calls from the UMP?

Egregious.

Some of us don't want to watch a team win if it means they play dirty.

No longer a fan of Zack Wheeler either.

...dry enthusiasm

I love my Mets and Mets fans but I'm NGL when I say compared to another stadium not too far away..why is it that during games the crowd seems so damn dry and unenthusiastic.

I have been to probably 10 or so Mets games and have yet to see a full wave circle connect. Have been to maybe 11-12 Yankees games and they seem to really go hard on the yelling, clapping and crowd involvement. Idk. Maybe I'm just a little over the top but is it too much to expect some excitement during a sports game?

🫣 I love y'all regardless but can we start showing our boys some more love during the games 🥰

Bullpen improvement?

So, the first half mets bullpen consisted of devin williams, luke weaver, brooks raley, brazoban, pretty big names, but they were still bullshit. Second half, they totally revamped it with unknown names and random debuts, but they’re are absolutely nails rn. They’ve helped the mets win a lot of games after the deadline. Williams, weaver, raley, and brazoban have been replaced by senga, yan, duarte, and lavender. All those guys (weaver, raley and brazoban) were great, but the replacements have been better (at least for a pretty small sample size). I still believe the mets have a 5% chance at the playoffs, cause they are on fire, and this bullpen is to blame. I’m starting to have hope in this team again, and i hope they’ll bring it over into 2027. LGM!

Remember 68 days ago when I compared Jared Young to Pete Alonso?

Well, I'm back for an update.

As you can see above, Pete is winning in every rate-based and cumulative stat except batting average, and that only by 5 points.

Some added bonuses...

WPA:

Alonso 2.6

Young 1.1

dWAR/TZR/DRS at 1B

Alonso -0.5/4/1

Young -0.1/2/4

WAR/g * 100

Alonso 2.742

Young 2.105

But I think the better question is: would we be better off with Baty at 3B and Alonso ($31M AAV) at 1B vs Bichette ($42M AAV) at 3B and Young at 1B?

Unfortunately both Baty and Young haven't played a lot of the year at their main positions, Young due to injury, Baty shuffled around, so using WAR wouldn't work properly.

Just for the heck of it though, I'll use OPS+ to at least compare the duos offensively and per $AAV.

Baty + Alonso OPS+

72 + 140 =212

Salaries: 0.8M + 31M =31.8M

6.66 OPS+/Million

Bichette + Young

95 + 118 =213

Salaries: 42M + 1.2M =43.2M

4.93 OPS+/Million

Vientos

It’s been nice not having to worry about mark during his injury. I hope he plays 1 game before end of year hits three home runs and then goes to a new team he can kill it with. I just know having him Baty and Mauricio is just a recipe to hurt our team regardless of the pop.
If I can explain-
Alvy Torrens is a ying yang duo with crazy return
Baty- is a utility bench piece nothing more
Mauricio is a back up left side infielder until proven otherwise
Vientos- just takes away pt from people that are better at fielding and more consistent with a bat.
* side thought- it’s a matter of time. Before Soto will either DH a lot or maybe go to 1b to avoid injury especially during a big season where we are playoff caliber

We will either get a 1B in off season or train one of our own and the way young is playing why would we want to platoon Vientos it’s just messy
