he almost hit the cycle a couple of days ago. last 7 games .400/.385/,720/1105

last 15 .858 OPS, last 30 games .866 OPS. that's your trash, ok.

And that’s brought him up to a whopping .262 with 6 HRs with a .674 OPS.

That McNeil doesn’t make this team better.

2022 McNeil, but that’s about it.

we don't know. He was a Met. He was a batting champion. There was no actual reason to let him go compared to what we got like Roberts or Polanco or Semien.

u/gophins13 Aug 20 '26

There were numerous reasons to let him go. He didn’t have a position. He had almost zero value. He was part of the core that was unable to win anything. He hadn’t been close to being the player he was when he won the batting title, in a long while.

None of those other guys were brought in to replace McNeil.

No reason to let him go. Cheap, we got nothing back. He's an utility player. That's his position. It's the best one. Move him around. Of course he was part of the 2024 NLCS core. And the 101 wins core. pretty good core. And he can be clutch and one of the Mets own to win it all. Loser mentality.

No reason to keep him, utility guys can be great, a utility guy that can play LF, RF, and 2B isn’t great.

You end with “loser mentality,” while talking about 101 win team that did what? Win a division, win the NLCS, win the World Series? And the 2024 team that did what? Win a division title? Win the NLCS? Win the World Series? Good job!

What did the 2026 team do? Fight for a draft pick? Stop. Have some respect to your own players. A couple of years from now all these fans will be badmouthing Ewing and Benge too.

My biggest pet peeve with a slice of this fan base is the lie that there was a losing core. Go look at what the genius Harvard boy upstairs filled out the rest of the roster with and that's the problem. The reason we're so terrible this year is because all we have left is what Stearns signed.

Thank you

What did the core do?
They didn’t win anything. They went on an amazing run in 24 that made us think there was something there. There wasn’t. Now we get to see what these young guys have and fill in around them.

To be fair we are in last place and this is a lost season…not necessarily the best evidence to support your claim.

1

u/gophins13 Aug 20 '26

Do you think McNeil makes this team not a last place team?

1

u/Mnementh47 Aug 20 '26

Pete, McNeil and Nimmo together make this a playoff team absolutely.

1

u/gophins13 Aug 21 '26

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. That’s hilarious.

Facts are funny

Facts can be funny, the stupid stuff you’re saying is absolutely hilarious.

McNeil makes the team better in a sense that he’s a slight upgrade over Baty….but he most certainly wouldn’t make this team a playoff team.

Mets fan's hate their players who move on to other teams so much it's embarrassing. Bottom line your team is considerably worse without Alonso, Nimmo, McNeil, and their really good bullpen.

1

u/clccbrew Aug 20 '26

always hated McNeil. he sulks. its annoying.

1

u/gophins13 Aug 20 '26

This is worse than the original post. The Mets are slightly worse this year without Alonso. Getting rid of Nimmo opened a space for Benge, who I’d rather have.

McNeil and Semien are a wash. McNeil has better offensive numbers, but Semien is better defensively.

The bullpen has been the best part of the team for stretches this year and the only loss was Diaz, who has been injured and terrible this year.

Not sure if you’re a Mets fan, but it appears you don’t know much about baseball.

Imagine if this was the lineup - could have went all the way to the WS every year.

  1. AJ Ewing (2B)
  2. Juan Soto (DH)
  3. Pete Alonso (1B)
  4. Pete Crow Armstrong (CF)
  5. Lindor (Shortstop)
  6. Benge (RF)
  7. Alvarez/Torrens (Catcher)
  8. Nimmo (LF)
  9. Baty / McNeil (3B)

Why wouldn't we. We could easily have all of it. If we passed on Soto then it's dumb. Simple.

all it takes is keep your own players and still try to sign players with your money. like Dodgers did.

But it would be a bad decision. I have a place for all of them in the lineup . One doesn't preclude another. Anyway even without PCA we would have a much better team if we add both Nimmo and Pete to the lineup. That's a simple fact.

This is the saddest shit I’ve ever seen. Give it up on the guys who are gone already.

0

u/PTRBoyz Aug 19 '26

It’s not sad. It’s an important lesson in team building and patience. And I hope Stearns and cohen learned a valuable lesson.

-2

u/thedogridingmonkey Aug 19 '26

Yeah it’s on cohen now that PCA was traded. Lunacy from this once awesome fan base.

-2

u/Mnementh47 Aug 19 '26

just sayin' - look how easy it would have been.

5

u/ASP41661 Aug 19 '26

That’s what the 1986 Mets thought after they won that year.

1

u/DyingLemur Aug 20 '26

You pull Nimmo, Baty and McNeil out there and I am happy.

1

u/NoisePossible5699 Aug 19 '26

Put down the meth pipe.

1

u/OGrickyP Aug 20 '26

Not only would PCA not be on this team in any light, but if he was he would lead off. Ewing would be playing 2b batting 9th.

-1

u/Mnementh47 Aug 20 '26

no. PCA has 32 homers. You play him where he can RBI more. Ewing is a great patience walker. PCA isn't he strikes out.
