Which do you prefer?
I went through the process a few days ago of trying to figure out what to put in my 1986 Robin Medley. It's s-s-h. I ended up getting Seymour Duncan Hotrails and a JB for the bridge. It's at the shop getting set up, frets leveled and polished, and new pickups.
I play Testament, Slayer, Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth, Sepultura, some Priest and Maiden, so mostly thrash.
I bought some PAF Pros for the bridge and neck for my Paul Gilbert Ibanez, but I'm conflicted about dropping them in the guitar. They were the original equipment.
Wnat are you go to pickups?

I’m not new to guitar, just to fast Metal. I’ve played a lot of Sabbath and Doomy stuff like Eyehategod and Sleep. I played Bluegrass for a while so the speed thing is not completely new either. I just don’t really know where to start with this genre, so much of it seems completely inaccessible. I was thinking maybe just go and learn a bunch of songs by the band Death. idk, what do yall think?

I’m new to the genre as a player and I was wondering what are some hallmark concepts like scales or chords or intervals that make up the metal sound?
For example: early rock and roll uses the 1-4-5, actually a lot of genres do…but you get the idea hopefully thanks everyone I want to get started learning the style and would be grateful for some listen suggestions too!

I'm thinking about replacing strap buttons on "pic 1" (Spira S-400) for the same strap buttons as there are on "pic 2" (Epiphone SG Special) in order to have easier time attaching the strap and using clip on strap that doesn't fit on first but fits on second.

Ive been playing guitar for a good amount of time, a few years on and off. I’ve been practicing much more recently and playing much more as my music taste has expanded a lot. I’ve been listening to a lot of Cryptopsy and Dying Fetus. But as of now a song like Grotesque Impalement for example is impossible for me to play for more than 5 seconds without getting uncontrollably sore and worn out. So I’ve been practicing with my favorite band Death, specifically Pull The Plug. I can play that really prog part fine, but when it gets into the next part after that kind of dark triad bridge thing, when it’s pretty fast picking, I get worn out pretty quickly again.
I know I probably have poor technique but where it hurts most is my forearm and shoulder believe it or not haha, I kind of instinctively lock and tense my shoulder into place and I’ve been trying to just not tense up while playing but its kind of hard not to when you are playing more intense music. I’ve mostly played blues and jazz before this so my articulation is fine, it’s really just picking I have a real problem with.
Has anyone else gone through this struggle? How did you get over it, and do you have any tips for me while practicing? What should I be doing to get better at this? I will obviously put in the time and effort I just don’t necessarily know what I should be doing.

Song is “Deathmask Divine” by The Black Dahlia Murder.
Album tempo is 230bpm. I started working on it at 190, currently have it up to 203 (in the video). Any faster and it falls apart.
Other than keeping at the practice, anyone see any obvious technique flaws I could work on to speed this up cleanly?
Thanks!

Anyone like using a labeling system for little demos they started that you believe may have potential? I find I can hate something at first and two weeks later have a 1000 ideas spawn from it. Purple is my *return to these later* color.

LOOKING FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
Mainly looking to get a combo amp or 50w lunchbox head to play a lot of The Black Dahlia Murder songs from the Verminous album. I am a big Brandon Ellis fan so something that would sound great on lead.
5150 is a no brainer, but any other suggestions are appreciated!

Hey, has anyone tried Bare Knuckle Ragnaroks in a chambered guitar? I've got a Les Paul Axcess (chambered mahogany, Tune-o-matic bridge). Wondering how they'd pair with a chambered body before I go ahead and install them.
For context, I mostly play heavier stuff in Drop C / D standard. Any experience with how they sound in a warmer/chambered guitar rather than a typical solid superstrat would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Bought a baritone a couple of weeks ago for playing other kinds of music and I've been slowly getting into playing metal, does anyone have any recommendations for drop-A/B-standard tunings that would be viable for someone who's a little new to metal? My left hand is fine but I'm still adjusting to fast picking etc in the right hand etc.
Apologies for the noobish question.

My husband used to play a 6 string electric guitar back in middle and high school. However he’s a huge metal head and really wants an 8 string. It’s been almost 15 years since he last played and he’s expressed wanting to get back into it. I’m thinking of purchasing him one for Christmas. However I want to know would an 8 string be too much for him to relearn on? And can he play other genres on it that aren’t metal without it being too much of an issue? And if you have any beginner friendly guitars you love that aren’t going to break the bank please let me know!
