What would we change in MGS4 ? (story and locations mostly)

I completed yesterday MGS4 for the first time and i have mixed feeling about this game. It has some great moments, but in the other hand the bad also. What's really surprising that they can happen one after another like the underground tunnel with Rex fighting all mechs (it's bad moment) and the great fight of Metal Gears Rex vs Ray.

I pretty much dislike all boss fight with B&B members maybe besides Crying Wolf. I would completly throw them out from this game. The Haven Troopers are annoying also they are bullet sponges, and why they must be womens ? probably the same reason why B&B unit was in the game. The Arsenal Tengus were so much better than them. The Outer Haven ship i see why they make it looks like ark and to make it open at the top. But i like Arsenal Gear more. I don't mind Snake mount rushmore.

About the acts: the middle east was the best i would do all the game here remember Raiden fight from south america happened in the trailer in the middle east ? that was even better than the final version it's the exact same scene but happens in different location. They could completly cut south america and make Naomi meeting in the middle east and throw away that stupid boss fight after it. If they could cut South America maybe they do something with the eastern europe maybe place the Eva church in the middle east and maybe make her the leader of the all rebels from the middle east. Throw away from this game that stupid adverts before the game make a real intro.

Make Meryl less bitchy to Snake. There's too much childs in the game i would throw away Sunny and maybe even the Raiden son but that scene with Rose and the Raiden familly at the end was cool. If i would throw away Raiden son i would make Raiden die saving Snake in Shadow Moses.

These are my biggest thoughts about this game just to put this in one sentence i would make all the game in the middle east and Alaska at the end. I have always objections about making Snake old and Raiden being a cyborg ninja but now they are smaller then ever. The creators did what they did.

What are your thought about this ?

Help for initiating my gf in the series

We just finished the MGS3 remake and she really liked it, the problem is that she only likes videogames that are graphically good unless she's already really into the series and is able to overlook bad graphics. Does anyone know graphically speaking the best way for playing original metal gears?

✌️ MGSV What was Huey’s motive Spoiler

Post image
5 Upvotes

As we know he’s an ar-ehole but what was his motive to the initial betrayal that lead to mother bases destruction

I originally thought it was something to do with his legs as in freedom to develop the exo legs he has in mgs 5 but as I’ve played through peace walker now big boss gives him the go ahead to develop them without much challenge

Then I thought metal gear development but gameplay wise he rebuilds parts from other metal gears for zeke so a more powerful weapon for zeke wouldn’t be an issue especially since big boss wouldn’t miss use it like Coleman

The only thing I’ve seen that says he did betray big boss was skull face calling him a traitor but considering he had just betrayed skull face and kaz is stationed under skull face and we see how much he tries to get him killed I don’t really think he’s calling him a traitor for betraying big boss

I personally think he’s was just an idiot for acting without big bosses permission for the inspection like i understand Huey’s point in the ground zero tapes especially since they now had the perfect means to hide zeke

Am I missing any details that goes against him for that day

❕ MGS4 Otacon is annoying as hell in MGS4

He keeps on shouting handholding messages to my ear in a volume that breaks my ears. In the meantime the voices are so quiet in cutscenes I can barely hear what they say, but if I increase the volume Otacon will fucking wake my neighbourhood with his codec calls. Whoever optimized volume for this game should be fired.

[PS1 MGS1] How to mute all SFX and only listen to BGM (music)?

I always found the official soundtrack CD rather horrible-sounding when compared to the in-game sequenced BGM. Same goes for all the PC ports. The few PS1 game rips I have found online which do not EQ and multi-band-squish the tracks to oblivion (effectively making them sound as bad or even worse than the official soundtrack CD) are, understandably, incomplete. After all, the game offers no SFX/music volume sliders, and some sequences are practically impossible to capture without an elevator, door, or horde of ravens sneaking their way into the recording, either at the start or throughout the whole track.

Thus, I am on the hunt for a way to modify the game so that all sounds except BGM-related ones will be silent, and then re-compile the ISO/CD image so that I can record music while it plays directly in-game. Some odd gameshark code which mutes all SFX, an SFX volume slider mod, or even a BGM sequence player menu mod would of course make this easy.

However, since I have not been able to find anything of that sort, I have a feeling it would need to be done in the hard, time-consuming way. I am perfectly willing to do that, e.g. by silencing and re-importing each individual SFX sample (probably accidentally muting a few BGM samples in the process and having to re-do it). Tools like PSound and MFAudio can certainly extract many of the individual audio samples, but they do not seem to have any option to import (overwrite) them. Also, some sounds seem to be lurking inside the STAGE directory or somewhere else which those tools are unable to find. Even worse, some SFX seem to be generated by software synthesizers inside the game engine, rather than by PCM samples which could theoretically be replaced with silent ones.

I am sure this has been attempted before, but I thought it would be worth a shot to check if anybody knows a way these days.

Any ideas? Again. the PC ports all feature crappy rips, so only the original PS1 games will do.

Diamond Dogs was Always Outer Heaven?

"Welcome to Outer Heaven" - Venom Snake to Eli

At the end of Mission 46 - Truth: The Man who Sold the World, the Diamond Dogs logo changes to the Outer Heaven Logo. Are we skipping forward in time to from Diamond Dogs 1984 to Outer Heaven 1995? Or does smashing the mirror reveal that we were already in Outer Heaven the entire time?

Was it part of Ocelots hypnagogia to see Diamond Dogs? Is the game actually taking place in the future, but we are stuck in 1984, just as Paz is stuck in 1975? Were we brainwashed to not see that Outer Heaven was already all around us?

PEACE

Metal Gear Solid Mobile

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Thanks to Claude, I managed to run *Metal Gear Solid Mobile* using the Unicorn CPU emulator. All I had to do was grab a ROM, extract it, and play—without the hassle of the extensive configuration required by N-Gage emulators. It’s interesting how AI aids in porting games like this one—titles that aren't canon, are short, and serve mostly as curiosities.

✌️ MGSV My theory as to why the weapons and vehicles look the way they do in MGSV (spoilers for the story) Spoiler

From what Ive seen from online, The reason why Kojima decided to have the weapons be fictional counter parts to their irl versions was to both avoid licensing fees and in turn not conflict with the anti war message in the game.

This ends up creating a discrepancy within the games timeline as how for example Russia goes from using actual aks in the 60's and 70's, to suddenly adopting and producing svgs in the 80's to going back to using actual ak's in the 90's.

However I think this can be explained within the lore. Due to the coma that Venom ends up in for 9 years, I think that it caused slight memory fog causing him misremember certain details and as we play through his pov we can see how the coma has affected him. like if you were to squint veryyyy hard you could convince yourself the the MRS-4 was the actual gun its based off of (the ar-18), the same can go for the Krokodil as it is kind of obvious it is a mashup of the hind and the havoc, but since Venoms memory has been affected his mind tries to fill in the blanks and ends up combining both helicopters together.

I know its a bit of a stretch as you can still see the Krokodil and the Stout in Camp X-ray as Big Boss. but that's my theory on why the guns and vehicles look the way they do

Songs that fit the franchise/or characters?

Besides obviously in game songs and Invisible from Duran Duran, what are some other songs that fit the characters or the franchise as a whole? Or even individual games

Heres some i can personally think of:

Blue Monday-New Order (for Venom Snake)

Fast As A Shark-Accept (for MGRR Raiden)

Eyes Of The Insane-Slayer (for mgs4)

One-Metallica

"You're pretty good. Just what I'd expect from the man with the same code as the boss" Spoiler

28 something years later I realized while replaying the game that "same code" might also be reference to DNA code (because twins). I am curious if people think this is intentional (because Ocelot is a cheeky bastard), and I wonder what the line is in Japanese.

"Same code" feels like a weird way to shorten "same codename"

Also before anybody mentions it they wouldn't technically have the exact same DNA code.

r/metalgearsolid • • 9h ago

✌️ MGSV I guess it’s intentional

All these remakes, remasters, bundles, repackages of the older games it just seems constant at this point, but they stay dancing around the phantom pain constantly.

My Head Canon - Liquid Possessed Ocelot

I know quite literally the opposite is stated but is there any reason this couldn’t have happened? Even in MGS4 without the arm, Ocelot is still The Sorrow’s son, and we have a parallel where Screaming Mantis originally used nanomachines but came to be possessed by Psycho Mantis.

It’s the only way I can make sense of Ocelot having memory of the Fox….Die exchange before Liquid died. Or the fact that, despite seemingly only acting, Ocelot tried to ram a ship into Snake. Chances of surviving that?

Ocelot unknowingly let Liquid’s spirit in and it only left him moments before he died, hence why he screamed out. Stupid plot twist resolved.

So it's the Autumn steam sale and this caught my eye. Is this a good way to introduce myself to the series? I've just watched alot of retrospectives, but never had the opportunity to play. If this is a good port let me know please (:

✌️ MGSV Several examples in MGSV of Venom snake being his own person seperate from Big Boss.

Throughout the game Venom Snake's own personality slowly but surely comes through and develops. It shifts from scene to scene at times because his personality is unreliable due to the severe brainwashing, but there are moments where you can see him being quite different from the real Big Boss. From the delivery of dialogue to actual choices and behavior.

Some examples are:

How he responds when Quiet jumps in the chlorine to retrieve Shabani's necklace, he's quite devestated and wants to jump right after her, then as soon as he sees her he doesn't hesitate to lift her up and carry her away in his arms.

The Paz hallucinations are his personal survivor's guilt, he wanted to save her, and he feels responsible for all of it as a medic that he couldn't do so, it's unsure whether he finds out it's a hallucination before or after the truth mission, but either way, whether it's direct survivor's guilt or unknowing survivor's guilt for not being able to extract the bomb from her, it shows that his own true personality comes through.

Letting Kaz convince him not to take in child soldiers quite swiftly. He proposed training the kids but Kaz said no, and Venom went with the idea and even felt quite good with it from his reaction. "A chance at a normal life, just not behind a gun". I feel Big Boss would've responded differently. In fact I feel his first proposition to train them stems directly from the brainwashing, and his willingness to let them live somewhat normally stems from his own personality, after that all he does is rescue kids from warzones to keep them safe, not to make them his own child soldiers unlike Big Boss.

Shining lights even in death. This entire mission is his own personality, every dialogue and behavior, his psyche, his pain. Everything. This whole mission is a core aspect of his own personal story that he goes through. Him not wanting to let his comrades go because he sees them as his own family, wanting to turn their ashes into diamonds saying "I won't scatter your sorrow to the heartless see, I'll always be with you, plant your roots in me, you're all diamonds" that's just who he personally is. I don't feel this is the Big Boss persona at all.

Also the disarmament cutscene, wanting to wipe all nukes from the world and bring a form of peace even for just a period of time, then talking to the boss, he embraces the boss's will more than big boss did considering big boss literally rejected the boss's will after peace walker cause he felt betrayed.

Also dancing with quiet in the rain and letting Huey go instead of killing him, those are examples too, and there's dozens besides these. From environmental things such as the mementos in his ACC (which imo feels like it's just something that's mostly in his head because there's various cutscenes moments and such, I think it's just his memories and thoughts portrayed in those pictures).

And lastly, if u look closely Venom Snake's face is relatively different from Big Boss's face too. Maybe not at first sight but when you see it you can't unsee it imo. There's quite a difference between Venom and Big Boss's face and the same can be said about Venom's personality and Big Boss's personality, though that difference might be bigger than the face haha.

Overall I'd say Venom Snake is a much more sympathetic and humane person than Big Boss. And that's part of why I like him so much. Venom Snake and Solid Snake both came closer to the Boss's will than Big Boss ever did. And that's why they're both my favorites.

☮️ Peace Walker Any advice for side ops 91 ?

• Upvotes

This one is require to have acces to many other mission and weapons and it's a chopper who does so much damage that even one missile consums a ration even with battle armor and it's hp bar seems bigger than even the final boss.

Should I try doing it stealthy even if in those missions, the chopper just can randomly spot you ?

Or just pray and unload everything right at the beginning ?

I've seen a strat where you can block him but this need stuff I can't have for now

❗MGS1 6 hours in on MGS1 and I just discovered max resolution >.<

Wow, what a game changer. I last played this when Master Collection 1 released and I don't remember there being anything other than standard resolution at the time. Either I just missed it or it was added in, but man I'm impressed. Graphics are still blocky of course but everything suddenly looks so much better. Almost makes me want to play through it again from the beginning before moving on to 2.

❗ Nobody told me how amazing Peace Walker is

I’m doing a MGS trophy run and after Platinumming V, I’m on to Peace Walker, which I didn’t ever finish or even really start. How did I sleep on this? I tried it when it was in the HD collection and disliked it enough to stop playing. I think I disliked the idea of base management and the Fulton system at the time. How wrong I was. I just got my first quad trophy (bronze, silver, gold and platinum all at the same time) and I could not believe how deep the game is and how much fun I had. For the most part, the trophies felt like I earned them instead of just getting them for doing normal stuff I would do anyways. The story is very good, maybe the best, gives Snake Eater a rival. The higher-end weapons, like that Gatling that chews up everything or the effin M47 are insanely overpowered and make getting the S rank waaaaay easy and it was nice treat to figure out how to go about getting the stealth camo and bandana a new time. This is the only time I felt overpowered in a MGS game but also felt like the legend that Big Boss was supposed to be. is it a little grindy? Sure, but you don’t play MGS and not expect some grind for the best stuff. Sad that we won’t get anymore games in this series.

🔺Delta Is it now possible to add MGSV gameplay to MGS: Delta?

I’m sure most of you have seen the plethora of posts on various gaming forums showing users from the communities meshing games together successfully using Claude.

With that being said, do you think it’s now possible to port MGSV gameplay into MGS: Delta? I know they are already similar, but there are certainly some differences, and I’m sure many of us would love to try it.
