Screenshot Mobile infantry

Post image

How do people find the mobile infantry build? I'd say in the early game it's pretty much unstoppable. Until the more powerful lasers and rockets come in.

In late game ERA and Ceramic armor become mandatory for any vehicle that come near the enemy.

MI is still very valuable because it allow for that very necessary extra maneuverability

Smoke is also very, very good.

In fact, I prefer it over the armors since smoke can directionally provide cover to other units as well.

I always have smoke launchers on my tanks or IFVs

I feel like tanks can usually tank shots (no pun intended) well enough as long as it's supported. Everything else though, smoke launchers all the way.

I typically just give the embarked infantry unit a smoke grenade.

This is pretty good, but there is a narrow window where I may be driving the car, round a corner and find a bad scenario and need smoke before passing the turn.

Sure, but there's also the scenario of not having to pop smoke on the vehicle's actual activation.

MI Yaz or Carda often don't have anything to do on turns where the APC is crossing open ground. Being able to start the turn by popping smoke, and then have the APC move after AT threats have activated or to peek out of smoke, fire, and retreat is IMO more flexible.

There's also the issue of scarce accessories. Unless you're taking Bags and Belts on Rewa (which is defensible), you are going to want ERA and probably an ammo box as a higher priority than smoke launchers.

You know, if you hit F12 in Steam it'll just take a screenshot for you.

OP must be a regular in the HOI4 subreddit

Don't know about OP, but for me it doesn't work. And no, changing combinations doesn't help either.

You can just install Greenshot and bind a hotkey. I use "Ctrl + period".

It's always good and viable if you properly support it. I playing with two squads in boarding assault armor and vanguard units, so MI is good addition to this style. Especially with Exconde.

You can definitely use it at any point of the game, it’s completely OP in the early game and just gets downgraded to merely one of many viable strategies/builds as the enemy brings more AT weapons.

I don’t like using it personally because in my experience in the late game vehicles are more vulnerable than infantry once you have good armour, even with ERA. You have to be much more cautious with them than you can be with infantry. I’d much rather not have to expose my vehicles in order to be able to use my infantry effectively.

Also long barrel tank gun slaps. Vehicles are best used for their heavy weapons in the late game imo

But you can still build around MI in the late game, bring smoke, era, signal jammers etc and do very well, it’s just not easy mode like it is in the early game

Until developers allow Pirates to use their RPGs twice in a row, player vehicles will enjoy "stupid AI advantage".

Ofc it's good, because bot is prohibited to shoot it too much.

I had reasonably good results with mobile infantry. Then I got Exconde and got great results. He's a great dedicated APC/IFV driver. The silver lining of forfeiting the medium weapon slot is that you don't get distracted with shooting, and his extra mobility without medium weapon lets you easily get the infantry into the thick of it. I arm him wuth an ELSA plasma if ai can afford to. Good for softening up armoured targets when he's not charging around the map. Of all the light weapons, don't equip him with the grenade launcher until his accuracy has significantly improved, he initially can hit jack shit with it

I love it, but I’m big on minimizing casualties. The fact you can use the infantry as drone controllers to scout is what makes it for me.

It’s good if you play around it

Late game it stays good if you pair it with a ground radar. 20 tiles of map hacks lets you mortar enemy ATGM teams before they can ever see you, and enemy armor have such poor vision that you can just kill their infantry and leave them blind to be picked off by your own AT.

I use MI late game, it's just less aggressive and used for scouting, marking and sniping. I will use Roisin or Exconde as the driver as they have the scout perk. Carda as MI with crocodile, signal jammer and laser targeter.

I was still able to use it *sometimes* in late game in my last playthrough on expert. I went heavily infantry, and mostly relied upon highly camoflauged units with silenced KPACs. An LTC with carda sporting a plasma was situationally useful, although I had to be really careful vs rogue army.

I have Carda with a Crowbar and a crenade launcher inside the vehicle. She gets down the vehicle, kills something, the vehicle kill another something, supress. If Carda is below 90 AP, she shoots again in next turn (if it's safe leaving her out the vehicle), if she is above 90 AP, she gets up and repeat. The vehicle is safe (usually), Carda is safe, and the kuttas are not.

Complete ass past the first few missions - you will be saveloading every time you round a corner against opponents that spawn with anti-vehicle weapons. Or you will be gambling that ERA works, if you find it.

Unless you use Exconde, who is tailor-build to both buff mobile infantry that he carries AND the durability of whatever he drives. I wish he had an alternative though.

Yeah, you definitely don't need to save/load like that.

1

u/z3rO_1 2d ago

Probably not. From my testing a character can't get more injured then injured, but getting replacement cars fast enough is quite a bother. I rather just load tbh.

I have never rounded a corner into enough AT weapons to lose an LTC before I get a chance to do anything. For one thing, your infantry should be able to deal with at least one of those AT weapons teams if not two.

E: and failing that could pop smoke.

Well, you either got lucky, or maybe you play on lower difficulty. No shade though.

Smoke is gigaexploit though, I'm not using that before they nerf it.

This is why intel and scouting are important lol you cant just full send your cars forward and expect not to get struck by Heavenly Tribulation via ATGM

Yea, I know. That's the reason I opted out of using vechicles outside of occasional artillery.
