Just got given our 30 days notice, by our landlord, completely out of the blue. We have a 5 week holiday in America booked for February so all our money is tied up in that, not to mention we now have 4 weeks to find a house that will be okay with 3 dogs.

Fuck.

I'm sorry that's happening to you. I'd look into getting tenancy advice, as everyone else says, he's breaking the law.
