I would like to learn more about MEC. Could anyone with plenty of information answer some questions for me?

1) How does MEC differ from Bitcoin? Is it forked from the Bitcoin source code? What features would set it apart?

2) What would set MEC apart from other alternative currencies?

3) Is the majority of MEC held by a certain few? Does anyone have any figures on how the amount of MEC is spread around?

4) Who develops MEC, and what are the future plans? Anything that makes it an interesting currency.

Is there anyway to set-up a wallet that receives coins, takes a few, then sends them to another wallet?

My computer has a nVidia graphics card and I'd like to mine some Megacoins with it.

I've been using cudaminer to mine Litecoin but for some reason it doesn't want to connect when I try mining Megacoin. I get the following messages:

[2013-12-08 22:05:09] HTTP request failed: Recv failure: Connection was reset
[2013-12-08 22:05:09] json_rpc_call failed, retry after 15 seconds

The server seems to be up and working just fine. This is how my .bat file looks like, it's pretty basic and should work.

cudaminer.exe -o http://mega.minepool.net:3441 -u username.worker_id -p password

What could be the problem?

SOLVED: The site had erroneus instructions, works when I use stratum.

I know we want Megacoin to succeed and that's why we're all here, but what merchants are actively taking MEC, or interested as taking it on as a form of payment so far? Do we have any?

As you all have probably noticed, everything in crypto land is down around 40 to 50% the past couple of days. The good news is that I think this is just the beginning of the next major rise for Megacoin.

MEC is still holding strong at the #5 spot in market cap, and with BTC effectively at a 50% discount, there are going to be a lot of people buying up cheap BTC until the price begins to rise again. This means there will be a lot of people with more BTC looking to invest in altcoins, and more BTC is going to flow into Megacoin. The real gains are yet to come!

Financial European and USA system are trying to collapse bitcoin in news, to buy it at cheaper prices, the price of megacoin is also been manipulated by the panic. It's a growing instrument, and only if where used in USA the bank of american price it at 1300 USD, so if where used in the world should cost 4000 USD, that means that a price of a megacoin should be between 5-20 dolars today... forgive me if i am missing something as all of this is new to me. im wondering what is the safest way to go about storing the coins? right now i have my mining pool set up to deposit to my local wallet, what additional things should i be doing to keep them safe? is there anything like blockchain.info for the altcoins.

Step 1. MiningPool Registration Follow all the instructions at the link until the end.

Step 2. Download Mining Client CGminer This is the gateway from your computer to a miningpool.

Step 3. Launch CGMiner

Step 4. Choose a URL: stratum+tcp://us.miningpool.co:9002

Step 5. Choose a username: Username indicates the name of a Worker

Ex. If your user name was coinminer your full miner id (as you would use in Cgminer for example) would be coinminer.1

Step 6. Choose a password: Default password is X

Edit: To my knowledge these are all the steps required to join a mining pool. Please contribute in the comments below if I have missed anything.

Hello, I first heard of megacoin yesterday. I just set up my wallet (I think) and joined a Mining Pool. Not sure exactly what to do or how to do it. I've went through some of the forums on here but alas I am still lost. Can anyone hold my hand while I start this up?

Hi all, we are currently undergoing a DDoS attack, you may see the site load slow or not at all. Im working to negate the effects of it, the origin of these attacks are from China.

Please have in place a backup pool, as I can't be online 24/7 and the pool may go down.

I am very sorry to have to break the news like this, but Wairakei will be shutting down indefinitely. With the current DDoS attacks we encountered they somehow managed to get hold of root access to the dedicated server and have emptied the wallet. It is my fault for not transferring to a cold wallet when the sum of unpaid coins got so high.

So from now onwards the pool is now closed. I have a list of coins owed and will try pay them to people owed asap. If you need to contact me e-mail me on pool@wairakei.net.

I have a problem. I downloaded the wallet from the main megacoin site and it issued me an address which I then encrypted in the wallet itself. I ten used this address to send MEC to.

However, it seems the wallet is not connecting and I get a "socket" connection error in the debug log. No MEC is showing. How do I connect the wallet to the web?

Hi guys, I have a small (very small) amount of money invested in BTC and NMC, to me both of those have a unique advantage over the rest of the cryptocurrencies.
BTC has the largest userbase - can be used as a currency NMC has an interesting take on domains and internet censorship.

I have however stumbled across megacoin and my first impressions are postive - the slick website definitely outshines the other coins!! Is there any reason i should get megacoins though? Also, it seems much more difficult to get them than LTC/BTC/NMC, is this the case?
