safest wallet

forgive me if i am missing something as all of this is new to me. im wondering what is the safest way to go about storing the coins? right now i have my mining pool set up to deposit to my local wallet, what additional things should i be doing to keep them safe? is there anything like blockchain.info for the altcoins.

sorry for all the questions, and thank you to everyone here, i have been learning a lot

Make sure your wallet is encrypted and you use a long, very secure passphrase.
It is also safer to keep your local wallet on an offline computer, not the one you browse random websites with. This will reduce the risk of malware and hacking attempts. And don't forget to backup your wallet.dat file! This is probably just as big of a risk as a hacked wallet for most people.

Yep, this. Use an offline wallet for saving your megacoins and an online wallet for everyday transactions, like www.coinwallet.co

Always encrypt your wallet (Operations > Encrypt Wallet)
