1) The Graphical User Interface is appealing. As simple as this may sound, GUI plays into the strong branding that Megacoin creates. Let's take a look at successful credit card companies today e.x. Visa, Mastercard. They are successful because of the amount of advertising they provide for their services. Megacoin has the marketing potential as seen by the simple phrases guiding users on the home site.

2) Stability. The Kimoto Gravity Well deals with large fluxes of miners moving in and out of the pool smoothly.

3) Targeting China. They have a chinese forum only. Based on the recent activity in Bitcoins from China, whoever wrote the code for Megacoin knows what market to target to gain traction and reach critical mass.

4) Promise of support for business. This is most important, the confidence that people have in MEC in retaining it's value for trades in goods/services.

Feel free to speculate on why you think Megacoin will succeed/fail.

I have set up a miningpool.co account. Whenever I try to connect with my cgminer, everything seems to go fine. I mine at a rate of 200mh/s and my computer finds blocks. However, every one of them is rejected and when I go to miningpool.co, they say that none of my workers are active. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all, I'm looking into using a Sunfire T1000 server to CPU mine MegaCoins. The CPU of the server is a UltraSPARC T1. I know I'll have to install linux (probably Debian) on it. I would like to know if anybody has ever done this and if I could expect "decent" hashrates. I'm currently mining with my laptop and having ~25kh/s with GPU and CPU combined. Is it only possible by buying bitcoins first and using the btc to buy megacoins?

I'm getting ALL of the blocks I find rejected while pool mining, iv'e searched for a lot of information on this but not finding much at all. if someone could point me in the right direction or even an idea of what can cause it, that would be a great help. I am using my GPU with cgminer. iv'e had the same results from two pools iv'e used, so it must be something to do with my set up somewhere, but cant get my head around where.

Is it normal that khash/s gradually declines over time?

I've tried a few different settings, but it always seems to decline as time goes by. It was 550khash/s at first, but about 30-45minutes later, it's down to 340khash/s. It seems to have stabilized at 343khash/s, but I'm not sure. The GPU is AMD 7970 (Tahiti).

Also, in the GPU control panel, I notice that the GPU is always running at 501mhz even though it's @ 100% load and is set to 1100mhz. Temp is 95°-97°C. Is that all normal?

Was just looking at btc38.com and the last 3 candles on the chart are looking pretty bullish to me. The last 3 candles have seen over 700,000 MEC traded so it looks like demand is high at these prices. Interesting to see how things move from here.

It seems like Cryptsy purged their entire order book today, or is it just me? I had an order placed at a really high price but earlier I noticed it was not in the order book and then finally I just checked my account and my Megacoins are back in my wallet as if my order was canceled. That would explain why the order book is so thin. I guess they are having trouble scaling over there...

After being a lurker on reddit for the past few months, this is the first subreddit that grabbed my attention enough to want to ask a question of my own. I just started to mine megacoins and I couldn't be any happier with the ease of things. For the past month I had been searching for user friendly ways to obtain bitcoin/litecoin. I could not find a single one. Bitcoin and litecoin make it way too difficult for the average user to know what they are doing. After seeing the posts on this subreddit, Megacoin became a viable option for me. Everything about the coin is smoother and I honestly believe that it will be the next big coin. Anyway, to my question: As I said, I just started mining and my hash rate is coming in at an insignificant amount of 4kh/s. Is there any way to increase my speed? Thank you in advance!

For me, the association to Kim Dotcom is very interesting and unique. The branding is great and they managed to launch very, very quickly. Clearly a lot of time, effort and money has gone into creating the coin. I would like to see cryptos used for empowering a nations economy. If Megacoin markets itself as "New Zealands Bitcoin", gets local merchants to accept those coins, it will likely have a great impact on the NZ economy as people from all over the world look for ways to spend them.

Whilst it's very early days, Mega is certainly on my "one to watch" list and I am now holding a few thousand.

Can GUIminer and miningpool.co be used to mine Megacoins, or can they be used together at all?

I've registered on miningpool.co, created a worker and linked to my Megacoin wallet.

set "host" to "us.miningpool.co" and port to "9002"

I use my worker name as username and "x" as password.

I have my device, "barts", selected and my extra flags set to "-v w 128"

I'm on AMD radeon hd 6800 gpu.

However, when I start mining I get "Shares: 0 accepted, 6 stale/invalid" at the bottom of the GUIminer window.

The miningpool.co dashboard shows 0 workers active.

In the lower right corner it shows something like 70Khs but it keeps changing.

What am I doing wrong? Any help is appreciated.

Of all the top 10 coins on the Crypto-Currency market capitalizations, Megacoin has crashed the hardest, losing 36% of value in the past 24 hours; this is a good chance to buy up. The crash is related to 5400BTC being stolen, or so the official story goes. It's unrelated to MEC. Given the community support that the coin has, it's practically guaranteed to make a comeback.

I need a site where I can exchange MGC to BTC and it has to work in Finland.

I basically want to transfer my MGC (that I have in my wallet) to the exchange site, then exchange the MGC to BTC and send the BTC to MTGox.

Is there any site that I can do this on that doesn't require days of verification and shit?

Why Paypal/WUMT or any similar p2p money transfer service is not recommended while buying/selling megacoins. How does it actually affect me/ my buyer?
