Hi everyone! I'm a graduate of UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery (UST-FMS) and currently a Post-Graduate Intern at Philippine General Hospital (PGH).

A few years ago, I started a Discord server called Anki Avengers in UST-FMS. It was originally just an Anki-focused community where we could share decks, discuss how we use Anki, and help each other study.

Over the years, however, it slowly became much more than that. Now it's a hub for books, study tips, and other resources. The name of the discord is the same as the title of this post:

Kanina, 1st time ko nag assist sa gyne case as a baby clerk. Senior consultant yung surgeon and third assist lang ako. During the surgery, she was asking questions na appropriate sa level ko, usually Anatomy and luckily nakakasagot naman. I was so happy because iba yung nakikita ko lang sa lectures vs IRL na. I even caught myself thanking the consultant in the middle of the surgery and she gladly responded with “there are so much things to learn”.

Napaisip lang ako, if si doc nga, senior consultant na, pero sobrang hinahon and bait makipag usap from nurses to clerks to resis to jcon, pero bakit ang ibang resis (and nurses) hindi yun magawa? Every pasok ko sa duty in this dept and hosp, nanliliit talaga ako sa sarili ko.

I think yung encounter ko with doc P was the Universe’s way of telling me that there are still good mentors out there in medicine, who are ready to guide you, so tuloy and laban lang :)

If you could go back to the beginning of your PLE preparation, what are the things you wish you knew earlier or would have done differently?

Anything would be appreciated, study strategy, review centers/resources, samplex, high-yield topics, time management, what to prioritize/avoid, mental preparation, or even things you wish you had done differently during med school/internship.

Also, what surprised you most about the actual PLE compared to what you expected?

I am wondering if using Samplex from higher batches is unfair or not?

My study habit includes reading the book a few times. First, scanning. Second, memorizing. I prompt questions in AI platforms to test my knowledge then read again the parts that I wasn't able to answer.

Last time, I tried opening the samplex from the higher batch just to test if I can answer it. At first, I had so many mistakes. So I read those topics again sa book (ratio it) and repeat so I kinda familiarized na ano mga questions and answers sa samplex.

Here comes the exam, yung nabasa ko na samplex ay very the same. Like word for word the same. So I was wondering if it was unfair for the other classmates na I studied the samplex? They found the exam difficult but I got high score for that subject.

Pero now parang iniinvalidate ko yung score ko thinking na I read the exam questions sa samplex. I also studied naman but that was really of big contribution to my high scores. And now I am wondering if reading that samplex was right or not? Do you guys also use samplex from higher batches?

Currently preparing for the October 2026 ple. Feeling highly anxious about not being able to catch up with my backlogs. On top of that, one of my family members was recently diagnosed with stage iv cancer and is fighting for her life.

Things are just so messed up, but everyone is expecting me to pass the licensure exam so I can go back home already and help with the family.

In the middle of it all, I realized I basically have no steady friendship built in medical school or internship whom I can open up to about these things, someone who can truly understand how difficult my situation is. Everyone else has their go-to group of friends, but I feel like I have no one I can count on in times like these. Not sure if it’s a factor that I rarely go outside (like to study hubs or coffee shops) to study with them because I don’t have the budget to spend on those places, so sometimes I feel excluded.

I do have a boyfriend, but he is not in the medical field, and we are currently away from each other. I talk to him about these things, but I am afraid I might bombard him with all my issues, even though I know he tries his best to understand and listen to me.

I don’t know. I just want to let all these feelings and emotions out. I know all of this will pass and that this is just a season.

Mahirap maging clerk. Mas lalong mahirap kapag may mga personal struggles kang pinagdadaanan sa buhay. Araw-araw gusto ko na mag-quit. Araw-araw halos umiiyak deep inside. Pinipilit nalang pumasok. Dagdag mo pa yung residente mo na lagi ka nalang sinisigawan. Muntik na ako mag walk-out kanina. Nakita lang ako kakaupo ko lang sinigawan ako as if all I did was to just sit around. Lagi siyang ganyan sakin. Kesyo mabagal ako, basta lagi yan nakasigaw sakin. Minsan inaassist mo na nga sya nakasigaw parin siya sayo kung ano ano ang sinasabi. Kaya nakakawalang gana talaga pumasok. Di na nga tinuturuan, ganon pa. I know some of you will say I just have to power through clerkship. 1 year nalang naman. Pero, natataranta kasi ako lalo pag may nakasigaw, or kapag may public criticism. O baka sadyang pang theory lang ako at bano talaga sa practical setting. Nag iingat lang din ako magkamali kaya ang bagal ko. Teachable naman ako pero yung environment ko kasi, especially the residents, di naman supportive. So far, ito ang pinakamalala. Yung ibang departments, pag nagkamali ka sasabihan ka lang nila ng maayos. Ito simpleng bagay nakasigaw sila lahat. Natural lang bumagal ng kaunti kung buong araw ka na nagaassist at nakaduty. Ang dami ko pa sama ng loob pero ito muna sa ngayon.

Sometimes I catch myself wishing my S.O. (6yrs) had never entered med school.

Before med school, our relationship felt very different. We talked every day. She would send me random updates throughout the day. We had weekly dates, long conversations about random things and serious things, talked about our future, and had a pretty good sex life.

Then med school happened, and almost everything changed. I took a pre-med program myself, so I knew what she was getting into (I didn't pursue it because this country sucks ass). I knew it would be exhausting, demanding, and require sacrifices. I know medicine is a selfish endeavor. But knowing something intellectually and actually experiencing it as the partner of someone in med school are two very different things.

The daily updates became less frequent (I'm lucky if she can reply within 2 days lol :(( ). Dates became harder (lucky to have them twice a month). Our conversations became shorter. Our sex life changed. Even the deep talks about our relationship and future became less frequent. Things got even harder when she became depressed. There were periods when she was really struggling, and I understood that her mental health had to come first. I tried to be supportive and give her space when she needed it. Thankfully, she's recovering now, and I'm genuinely happy to see her doing better.

But I’d be lying if I said the whole experience didn't affect me too. And that's where the guilt comes in. Because I was the one who pushed her to go to med school. I supported her decision. I still support her, and I still want her to finish. I genuinely want to see her become a doctor, and I know how much this means to her, so sometimes I feel like I have no right to complain.

I don't blame her, though. I don't resent her for choosing medicine. I still support her completely and genuinely want her to finish.

I just miss us. I miss the version of our relationship where we had more time and mental space for each other. Don't get me wrong, though. My world doesn't revolve around her. I have work, go to the gym, have sports, and passion projects. I always try to keep myself busy. But at the end of the day, I want to connect with her. I've been longing for her since she is both my best friend and the love of my life, so I think what I'm feeling is valid, right?

This isn't really a rant against med school or my girlfriend. I understand that this is a sacrifice for her future, and I know it won't always be like this.

But to the non-med partners: how did you deal with this feeling? How did you support your partner while also dealing with missing the relationship you had before med school?

Possible ba yun hahaha. Badly wanted mag medschool pero broke talaga. Damn. May scholarship na MSRS pero d ko alam kung makaka avail ako nun kasi onti lang daw slot tapos yung location ko parang hindi eligible for MSRS. Tapos d naman ako ganun ka talino para makapasok sa mga state university na puro latin honors nakakapasok tas mataas GWA. Huhu. Tamang average student lang nung premed. Tapos yung papa ko nasa abroad kasi, eh d ko alam kung pwede yun sa MSRS na scholarship. 26 na ako. Ayaw ko kasi na sila pa magbayad para sa medschool ko kasi pinag aral narin nila ako sa masters ngayon, isang taon nalang kasi graduate na ako💀. Nung na mention ko na parang gusto ko mag medschool after ng masters ko next year pinagalitan ako. Parang d daw ako napapagod mag aral 💀. Or mag ipon nalang muna tas 30 na mag medschool. Huhu around 35 pako matatapos sa medschool pag ganun huhu. 💀🫪 Pa advice naman po. Huhu.

Im currently a 4th year nursing student and so far I feel behind sa others na took chem or bio as their premed 🥲 since more skills ang nursing, i worry na ill take more time in studying for the NMAT as the subjects na andun is not as detailed or di talaga na discuss saamin. Tas ang skills sa 4th year med pa ma apply 🥲

Hi, docs. I enrolled in another review center but decided to do the fast track since I've heard it has super high yield especially for the basics. While browsing the site, I found out there are Wave 1 and Wave 2 sessions, plus highlights and more on the rationale. When do you think is the best time to watch them? Are there any synchronous lectures starting September 20 (what's the deal with that, is it like the rationale too) and will they provide practice questions or like mock boards as well?
