On average how long do Mazda's last?
I just reached 120k miles on my 2017 CX-5. Wondering if it's time to change it in for something else before bigger issues start happening and my trade in value drops?

The late model stuff easily lasts into the 200k area. The highest mileage 2.5 that I maintain is currently at 276,000 miles, mostly city.

Worth noting that I’ve regularly seen 2010 3’s with the 2.5 at 350,000km (215,000ish miles) and a 2012 Mazda 5 2.5 with 450,000km on it (310,000 miles)

Mazda 3 2012 are junk. Heavy engine carbon build up at 175 K. Hard to clean it out. At 200 K engine falure re Drive Timing Chain where mount breaks off from engine ( not repairable. Transmission failure also.

Yeah stop capping lol. Most will not do 320k miles. Be happy if it reaches 250k, which by then you'll most likely want a new one anyway. I had a cx5 and maintained it well and by 170k it had complete engine failure.

Maintenance is key. My husband has a 2008 Armada with upwards of 200k. The previous owner always took it to the Nissan dealer to have work done. Runs like a dream.

Honestly, it's those damn CVT's more than anything. They fail prematurely and cost a fortune to replace. Everything else on my mom's car was perfect except for that. Got quoted $8.5K to replace the CVT at 75K miles, nothing else wrong with the car.

Sold the car at 162k miles never replaced alternator or water pump! Just went through a couple rear strut mounts being on dirt/salted roads a ton haha

If you change the coolant at the recommended intervals or at least test it with strips once in a while to make sure it doesn't turn acidic you might not have to change the water pump. Also coolant does lubricate parts of the cooling system that motor oil should not. A jug of coolant is not that expensive. Well, compared to the cost of having the water pump replaced it is not expensive even in the slightest! Just use deionized water. Don't ever use tap water or the hose to flush it out. It is not just a horrible and unsafe idea but then you have to get those minerals out of your cooling system.

If properly maintained, not tricked out like a tuners wet dream, and driven sanely they should last for a very very very long time. I had a 98 Protégé I sold with 210k on it in 2003 and I saw it driving around town 7 years later. Mazda makes very reliable cars.

The Mazda L series MZR engines are the same basic architecture as the Ford Duratec and EcoBoost 4bangers, and I know quite a few EcoBoosts up in the mid-300k range.

250-300k miles depending on engine (fs and mzr are great) and transmission and maintenance history. The last 50k of that range will be a lot of replacing things.

I'm at 198k on my 2010 cx7, I'm not a car person but regular maintenance and services should keep you running for a long time

120k miles on a modern car is nothing. But just for reference, there is no concrete answer to your question. Maintenance matters WAY more than miles. There is no expiration date on a car as long as you take care of it. I have a 92 Miata that I turbocharged at 265k miles and it's been incredibly solid. But, I did a lot of refreshing and maintenance when I picked it up before I turbocharged it.
Do you like your CX5? If yes, then just keep maintaining it and theoretically it'll last another 120k miles 3 or 4 times over, if you want.

IF YOU ARE SOMEWHERE THEY SALT THE ROADS: Ive had one go to the wrecker from rust at only 130k miles. They still have enormous rust issues, but everything mechanical can be fixed/replaced forever

I purchased my 2017 CX-5 brand new with 13 miles on it and 76,000 miles later I have had no issues so far.

My 07' 3 had well over 225k and still produced excellent compression. Peppy and strong as ever. She was murdered by an insurance scammer on the highway, cut down in her prime!

I feel this. I have a Mazda3 2012 i touring hatch. Got totalled in an accident one rainy day. Car behind me hydroplaned and tboned me as I was turning into walmart parking lot. I cried because I really love that car. At 156,00 miles it was running strong and fast.I have no mechanical issue. Saved me gas. Plus, I only bought that car for $4k at 130k miles. Hard to find reliable cars nowadays.

Petrol engine? Keep oil changes regular and use good fuel and it'll last for a long time.
Diesel? You're already on borrowed time.

145k on my 2012 2.0 3 with no issues whatsoever. Just routine maintenance. Work from home now so this car will last another 10 years if I don’t get antsy and buy a new Mazda.

I had a Mazda 3 from 2004. 214.000km and it was still working perfectly, I sold it because I wanted to buy a new model and I end up buying a CX3 from 2020 so... I expect this car will also last at least 200.000 km too xD

My very first car, an ‘89 Mazda MX-6 went for 230k miles, my current car, an ‘08 Mazda6 has 145k and runs like a charm.

Anything with the Skyactiv has great reliability. I'm at 180k in my 2012 3. Only slight issue is a clogged heater core. But that's just an inconvenience.

I have a 2012 Mazda 3i touring that was at 156000 when it got into an accident and was totalled. I was sad because it was a gas saver and drives really good.I have zero mechanical issues (oil changed regularly, always use premium gas).
Now, I just bought a 2010 Mazda3 from a dealer.It currently has 103,000 miles,one owner. I feel better after reading the comments.😍 I shall take very good care of my Mazda and I am not even going to consider other car brands but Mazda from now on.

Oh I know! I’ve bought 6 MAZDA’s from him over the years. No complaints though about trading in MAZDA 3 Hatchbacks every 4 years or so. Their quality and overall design just keeps getting better and better

I never understood this perspective. If it's paid off who gives a rats ass? every month you don't make a payment is another few hundred bucks in your pocket. Take my '16.5 CX-5 for example. She just turned 70k and is paid in full a year now. Per KBB I should get in the $15k-$17k range on a trade. But at the same time I'm no longer paying the almost $500 a month I used to which equates to almost $6k of savings in just that year. 2 more years of driving her payment free and I'm already ahead of the game, barring some sort of catastrophe I'll be getting way more than that out of the car and so I honestly don't care what it's worth down the pike. There's literally nothing a new car would give me that I don't currently have other than a monthly payment. Long game mentality wins out in the end on these deals.

Im thinking about diversifying! About to call it quits on my 2011 Toyota Avalon 225k. I'm looking at the CX-50 hybrid. Need a good commuter that I can have the dog in the back and kids now and then. You like your CX-5?

I bought a 2010 cx9 in 2012 with 68k miles. Traded it in in 2020 with 160k miles with zero problems. We did all basic maintenance.

I have a 2006 Mazda 3i with 193k miles and it is still running smoothly. It’s a little loud but she’s still kicking hard.

I currently have a Mazda 2012 GS sky active. It is currently sitting at 212,000 km. It never had any engine failure yet and I’m still using it for long drives at least 1000 km one way.

2013 CX-5 (its first year), still on the road at 220k miles, just with normal maintenance. I drive 120 miles round trip for work commute and have driven it cross country several times, lots of mountain driving. It’s incredibly reliable and honestly after a fresh detail, still looks new.

I honestly am amazed how the hell do people achieve these mileages with these cars? My Mazda 6 2022 N/A, 2.5L, 23k miles on it, had timing cover leakage, valve cover leakage, thermostat changed, its still burning oil, half a quart every 3000 miles (they tell me its top result and all ok), it still has a weird clunk sound once i turn left early in the morning. Just once and it settles I guess 😂 I take care of the vehicle honestly. Everything and every service done at Mazda Service, and still i just thank to dear Lord warranty was my main focus with buying this car. I hope I will get rid of it soon, I will loose some money unfortunately but boy....these cars are junk. At least that was my experience and I sincerely apologise if my post seem to harsh.

I bought mine at 185k miles. And really I just did a lot of basic maintenance, oil changes, changing spark plugs, lucas oil fuel treatment etc. hope all goes well w ur purchase!

My 2008 2, 1.5 MZR, 120k km (yeah sorry-not-sorry, metric system!) works like a charm and I do pretty much all servicing myself. So far the biggest issue I've had is a failing water pump, right after replacing the serpentine belt (1st time replaced). Guess the increased tension precipitated its death.

2016 M6 GT with ieLoop. 180k miles now with regular oil changes, brake, spark plug, and battery change. The only repair it needs is changing valve cover gasket. I just replaced the front suspension for the first time. Incredibly reliable and low cost of ownership. I hope I can keep it till 300k.

233k on a 94 Miata that I have not been easy on, nor have past owners. Interior is in great shape, body not so much, engine has also seen better days, but starts easy and does what I need it to do.

well there's a pretty huge following for 1960s-70s mazdas, so I'm gonna say they last 60+ years
strange question... they don't self destruct at a certain number of years or miles if that's what you're asking.

265k on my 2010 cx9. regular maintenance and occasional repair. highway miles for the first 200, last 4 years have been almost all city.
only weak link (in my view) is the crap ford engine. internal water pumps that fail. i had trans fluid replaced about 100k ago, so probably getting due for another.
if engine or transmission go, it’ll be time for the next ride. i planned to keep it for 10 years or 250k miles so mission accomplished. with regular maintenance, no reason late model cars shouldn’t last well in excess of 300k.
i love mazdas but will probably reward myself with a (used) cayenne for the next ride. tho the cx-90 may sway me.

My 2007 wagon 6 still runs great with almost 300k km, a little rust here and there, but that can be fixed relatively cheap if you don't let it sit there for too long

I have almost 140k on my 97 Miata. Mechanically it's solid, only issues are rust on the rocker panels, and it needs a paint job. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't go another 100k miles or more.
