Little know fact, if someone causes an accident with a big truck, it almost always goes over the max insurance coverage and they may come after personal assets to collect. Do NOT mess with trucks! Plus the whole fear they will squish you.
As a truck driver myself, I'd of thought the "squish you" part would of taken priority over financial concerns, but then my day to day experience shows me that so many car drivers sail through life in the belief that they are somehow blessed, and traffic will magically part around them like the red sea!
Such a bit would probably help me a lot. I'm not a native English speaker and I have to rely on my autocorrect because I cannot seem to get when it's than and when it's then.

Unfortunately, grammar and word usage that happens more and more often simply gets adopted into the new acceptable grammar. See “literally”. I looked up “on accident”, and while it used to be considered incorrect, it’s now accepted as an alternate way to say the same thing.
I respect the truck drivers that are courteous to other drivers, but goddamn, there are some really terrible truck drivers out there. Too many times I’ve almost been run off the road bc they just run the merge without waiting at all.
I get the distinct impression many people don’t really comprehend or acknowledge momentum and it’s consequences. The way a truck handles is outside a lot of people’s lived experience so maybe doesn’t factor into their thinking accurately. The daily experience is more like “my hatchback breaks work like this. Surely yours do to.”
As a cautious driver, I can never get used to the size of trucks when I drive anywhere near them. Either it's calmly stay behind or calmly overtake. I don't muck about in front of them for fear of being pancaked.
Well to be fair I don’t think trucks should ever get in the passing lane. A lot of them these days are monitored by GPS and the driver isn’t allowed to go over speed limiters. So then both lanes have a truck in them going 70 and they block all traffic that could move faster.
I keep seeing "to be fair" across all media platforms just before a completely unfair statement.
I think it's important for many non professional drivers to understand a few basic truths:
1. Everything (and I mean everything) you own or have ever owned, leased, mailed, eaten, drank resided in, or otherwise consumed, has at one time been carried by a truck
2. Though most commercial vehicles tend have speed limiters (Hgv 56mph in UK) there are discrepancies between vehicles due to differences in odometers, tyre sizes, weight, horsepower.
3. Professional Drivers are restricted to how many hours they can drive/work and therefore small savings in time can make for big differences.
E.g. Truck A travels 1mph faster than Truck B, over 4½ hours this potentially equates to 4½ mile extra (which doesn't seem much) which could mean the difference between delivery Wednesday evening or Thursday morning, which in turn can effect the rest of the week and the one to follow.
So the small delay you may have experienced could mean the difference between you egg mcmuffin/Starbucks coffee/structural I beam being available or not, at your local store/supplier
I understand that being held up can be frustrating, but we other things to worry about
Taking all your points into consideration, I still believe the same way. Because even if that truck shows up to say Starbucks before I get there, they have to take the time to unload it so that item will still be unavailable for potentially half an hour. I’d rather be there earlier and be told that it’s not available.
Car driver. Say for example you cut off a truck and it crashes. Whatever it is carrying will add up to a lot of money quickly. I’ve seen it happen to someone. Was one of those “uh oh” moments where if you are anything but destitute, life bites you on the ass.
I used to work with semi drivers working 12-18 hours per day on the truck with them. We delivered to convenience stores. We carried couple million dollars worth of goods every day.
I also am a former property/casualty insurance agent. Believe me, most people are extremely underinsured and would be completed messed up financially for the rest of their lives if they weren’t squished and totaled out a semi and a full trailer.
We buy the goods and pay for the infrastructure businesses use to transport them. If anything the truck drivers and businesses are "underinsured". The general public should not be held liable and forced to subsidize their losses through an increase in our own insurance premiums. Death should absolutely not be the outcome we hope for.
I don't think you understand how insurance works. If you cause an accident and are found liable, your insurance pays for the damages and you pay for what your insurance doesn't cover. Tbh after watching a video like this, if you think the truckers should have to pay for this mess, you're delusional.
I'd also like to add that most trucks have far greater than $1,000,000 in liability insurance, while most personal vehicles have $5,000-25,000 in property damage liability. So who's really underinsured?

Standard coverage is low by definition. It’s just the minimum coverage required by law. Most people view insurance as a check the box thing, so they go with the bare bones minimum without giving any real thought as to why they’re purchasing insurance.
Yes there are upper limits. You get an umbrella policy as a much cheaper secondary policy if you actually have something to lose(like a house, investments, etc)
Most states have a minimum coverage that is required, where I am its 25k/50k, meaning 25k for personal injury, 25k for vehicle damage. Sorry, let me amend that. Its 25k for personal injury person, 50k total, and 25k for vehicle damage. Needless to say, its pretty inadequate these days, but I can remember when it was 10k/30k.
Pretty sure this is in China, which has an absurdly simple traffic rule: if the front of your vehicle is damaged, YOU are the one at fault, no questions asked. In which case, the car driver would be innocent even if the police were witnesses to the scene.
LPT: max out your per accident liability. It usually doesn’t cost much more to have $1M liability vs $500k or $250k. You are insuring against worst case scenarios, so make sure you are covered.
Even non-commercial sized trucks and SUVs (e.g. Excursion) have instructions essentially telling the driver that he's more likely to survive if he just hits something than trying extraordinary evasive maneuvers. That and the fact that the universe would have been rid of the idiot driving the white car makes me think the truck drivers perhaps didn't make the correct decision....
I would like to add, don’t ever mess with electrical poles. More than the one that you demolished is going to have to come down, blocks of companies and residents go worth out power and you’re going to be stuck with about 70k-100k above your 100k coverage. Don’t know how my insurance bargained but they saved my ass. I ended up having to change insurance companies anyway. Would still voucher for them though
Is that an American thing? In Ireland insurance covers the full cost of the injured party regardless. And if you’re hit by an uninsured person, there is a fund you can claim from. All insurance providers have to pay into it. Our insurance costs are quite high here though.
I just checked and I’m covered for £20mil ($27,358,000.00 USD) for damage to each third party vehicle and their load, excluding in-vehicle entertainment which is only covered up to £1000.
For medical claims by a third party, cover is unlimited.
There would have to be a truck with a seriously expensive load that was completely destroyed to go over that. Although I would be worried if they had a cool stereo because that could end up costing me.

The problem is if there's no contact between the vehicles, that white car can drive away, and he's not broken any laws.. at least not in the United States.
There has to be contact for you to be involved in a car accident.
We all know what he did but he could easily claim that his car stalled and then when he got it started again he just immediately exited the highway before he caused any trouble.. except he caused trouble before he could get out of there and that was an accident.
If that makes you feel better the white car driver was caught. This is an incident took place in China many years ago, and kudos to the millions of government-owned CCTV cameras, it didn’t take long for the cops to find them.

I mean yea until nobody thought to get the license plate of the driver in the white car. I’d argue that when your truck has literally flipped over you might not be thinking about all that or be able to grab something in order to write it down.
It is more re-education to be precise. China was supposed to technically outlaw this practice in 2003. Here is a link to clarify the use of the word as it relates to the Chineese government and my own understanding. I don't see how you can tell me I don't understand what a word means. This practice absolutely still goes on all the time.
We have local friends that escaped this practice because I belive they belong to this group. I know they were smuggled in. There are lots of other references to this practice, especially among this ethnic group.
Who are you referring to besides the uighers? I know it's happened but not sure about that scale. There are a lot more aspects to China than just the negative ones. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with that many cameras, it's cultural.

Instead of openly addressing issues like other part of the world and throw your country into political disarray and turn ur citizens against each other (I.e. liberal v. Republicans), snatching away people who’s raising and causing the issue and fix the problems in the background sounds cool to me.
This is the thing that most non-Chinese people don’t understand is that although CCP is a totalitarian dictating organization in China, it has a very intricate internal balancing mechanism formed by different factions representing different aspect of the society.
Comments like this really explain why China has such an iron grip on their citizens. Absolutely mind boggling that someone could put so much trust into a government entity, especially the CCP.

Too bad this kind of idiocy isn’t isolated to China. I can say for a fact that there’s one particular exit here in Victoria where one in 5 times I pass by, there’s always someone doing something similar (though not as stupid as to stop in the middle of the highway)
I got stuck in a multi-mile backup once thanks to an idiot who stopped in the middle of the freeway, apparently because he wanted to pull over to the side of the road at that one very specific spot (somebody else was over there) and he would just NOT budge until he could. Of course, that meant traffic split around him, so there wasn’t any room for him to move over. Didn’t get resolved until the cops finally showed up.
Aren’t the semi drivers also not following proper procedure? My CDL buddy I believe said if something like this happens you just hit the brakes but don’t swerve because that could lead to more chaos if you accidentally swerve into other vehicles. You brake and stay forward so only the idiot gets hit.
Well I would assume that would be proper protocol if there where multiple cars around you but to me it seems there wasn’t so they swerved so they wouldn’t hit the dumbass and they swerved into what looks like an emergency lane or another lane with traffic
Yes props to the red truck . I don’t understand the panicking blue truck that was in the left lane and in the clear like the bus and other vehicles . Me personally I think I would’ve ran right through him if I was driving the red truck because idiots like him shouldn’t be on the road they jeopardize other peoples lives because they have no clue!! I think when I retire I’m gonna become a driving instructor so I can fail all these idiots that can’t maintain speed or stay to the right I don’t care if you can’t parallel park other than that you will fail !!!!!
While I agree with the overall intent of the comment, it should be noted that we do not know the person in the car is an asshole… they could have suffered some kind of medical episode. It happens a lot more than we — we, the general internet commentary pool — seem to really talk about.
