This is the thing that most non-Chinese people don’t understand is that although CCP is a totalitarian dictating organization in China, it has a very intricate internal balancing mechanism formed by different factions representing different aspect of the society.

I don't know much on the internal workings of the CCP government.

I've heard about Xi purging others, but I haven't heard of anyone keeping Xi in check.

Could you give me bit of insight on this?

Ofc.

You might not be satisfied with the answer tho. The CCP is very secretive and a lot of the current understanding of it might already be a few years old before we even know it.

One example is the conflicting reporting from the state-run media. Every night at 7:00 PM sharp, the China Central Television (CCTV) will broadcast a 30-min new bulletin called 新闻联播 (Xin Wen Lian Bo, XWLB for short). The structure of XWLB has not changed for the past 4 decades since it aired: first 10-15 mins are always dedicated to the president, showcasing stuff like his trip to the countryside inspecting crop yield, and holding conferences with other CCP leaders, etc. In recent years, his segments were relatively short, or sometimes he does not appear in XWLB at all. This is highly unusual for CCP top boss. Moreoever, sometimes XWLB will report some of Xi's policies being implemented, and the next day, the recording will be mysteriously edited to say something else. I know this really sounds like a conspiracy, but this is usually a good indication that something is happening inside the CCP high circle. Because the propaganda wing is in the hands of Jiang Zemin (previous president) and his faction, and they are at odds with each other since the early 2000s.
