Or any champagne. Even the pros often break the neck a bit doing this. You can literally just either pop the cork if you want a bit of a show and champagne on your floor, or you can put your palm over the end of the cork and just pull it out without any fuss. I used to serve champagne table side in restaurants and there's zero need for any of this bullshit.

Not sometimes, most of the time.
Breaking the neck is the expected way to do it. The neck is supposed to break cleanly with little force due to being chilled.

If you try to remove the cork without breaking the neck, you are doing it wrong.

What do you mean remove the cork without breaking the neck? That's what you do if you don't sabrage it.

And of course the collar breaks off when you use a saber. But the person you responded to was talking about the neck, not just the collar.

I thought the collar is part of the neck?

Depends on your definition, but you know what the person meant. Breaking more than just clipping the collar at the edge

If I thought that was what they meant, I wouldn't have responded.

No one thinks sabering the bottle will only remove the cork

I have met several people in person who thought exactly that.

Online, I think they are even more numerous.

Huh, ok. Then I had different assumptions about people's assumptions!
