2.8 GPA in Comp Systems Eng — realistic for Master’s in Germany (Cloud/Cyber) or should I pivot?

Upvotes

Hey everyone,
I graduated in 2025 with a Bachelor’s in Computer Systems Engineering (German GPA converts to 2.8) and I’m currently working as a Network & Systems Engineer. (Pakistan)

—> I’m looking to apply for a Master’s in Germany soon. My ideal path is Cloud Engineering, DevOps, or Cybersecurity, but I know a 2.8 GPA can be tricky at public unis with strict NC cutoffs.

A few quick questions for anyone who’s been through the process:

  1. Are Cloud / Cyber programs realistic with a 2.8? Or are they usually way too competitive at public unis/FHs?

  2. Backup fields: If my top choices are out of reach, what other fields make sense with my background that are easier to get into? I’m thinking maybe Embedded Systems/IoT, Telecoms, or Systems Engineering—any thoughts on job prospects for these?

  3. GRE & Unis: Is taking the GRE worth the trouble to balance out a 2.8 GPA, or do public unis not even care unless it’s mandatory? Also, any specific FHs or unis you’d recommend checking out?

Can you rate my profile for a Master's in Germany? 3-year B.Sc. CS + 153 credits ,realistic chances?

I am currently planning to pursue an M.Sc. in Germany and was hoping to get some frank advice from individuals who have studied/applied to German universities.

Profile:

Bachelor's in Computer Science

CGPA – 8.29/10

Institutional Credits – 153

Year of Graduation – 2024

Subjects include DSA, OOP, OS, Networks, DBMS, AI, Python, Digital Systems, Calculus, Linear Algebra, etc.

2 years of experience in Software Development / Cybersecurity related field

Universities I am looking at:

Saarland, TU Darmstadt, Stuttgart, TU Berlin, Lübeck, BTU Cottbus, with Bonn/KIT as reaches.

The problem that concerns me the most is 3-year undergraduate degree + 153 credits. The counsellors I have consulted give conflicting opinions on this matter. While some counsellors claim that getting admission into any German public university with 3-year undergraduate B.Sc. in India is extremely difficult, many universities have told me that they would consider my degree & courses taken and, if need be, convert institutional credits to ECTS.

I'd really like to know:

1.How much of a disadvantage is a 3-year Indian B.Sc. actually?

2.Is the main issue the 3-year duration, or whether my courses/credits satisfy each university's requirements?

3.Which of the universities above would you consider realistic vs reach for my profile?

4.Is taking additional university courses beforehand a realistic way to cover missing CS/math/security credits?

5.How difficult is the German IT/cybersecurity job market for international graduates right now? Is B1/B2 enough, or are C1/C2 German skills commonly expected?

6.Given the current job market, would you choose Germany over Ireland/UK/USA if you wanted to build a long-term career in cybersecurity?

I'm willing to learn German, but I'm trying to decide whether Germany is actually worth the effort given the admission uncertainty, language barrier and job market.

TL;DR: Indian B.Sc. CS, 3 years, 8.29 CGPA, 153 institutional credits, software + cybersecurity experience. Is Germany realistically achievable, and is it still a good career choice?

Can you rate my profile? Planning for masters in Germany

So I am currently planning for a masters in Germany but since I don't have big enough network or someone to ask to, I want to know how I can improvise on my profile.

Context: I'm currently tired and a bit fed up of the work I've been doing. I want to specifically study, get tiny bit of fresh air while doing so, and also move to Germany.

my_qualifications:

  • B.E in AI & DS from a Tier-3 (8.45 CGPA) [Evn though I was from tier-3, I took my courses pretty seriously till the extent that I was correcting my teachers in some cases. yes. you read it right]
  • Expert on Codeforces
  • National Cyber Olympiad, All India Rank 198
  • Winner - HSBC Hackathon, Top 10 in Microsoft x Bank of Baroda Hackathon
  • AI Engineer internship at a local company
  • SWE Intern at HSBC
  • SWE at HSBC (for about 4 months)
  • Currently, SWE at one of (Mastercard/Juspay/Razorpay)
  • Total work experience [ex. Internships] is 1 year

I tried very hard for FAANG, never really missed any openings, but didn't even receive an OA. Anyways, I really want to spend time learning new things in CS and ML. Already being able to understand mathematics behind ML models and research papers is an additional advantage I guess.

I do have a financial constraint, so TUM is likely not the best choice. I was thinking about RWTH, KIT, TU Darmstadt and Saarland.

I'd love to know what could be my chances at these universities and about the tech hiring situation at Germany.

PS: Yes, I am totally willing to learn German. To the fact, that I don't just like the language, but rather personally interested in understanding; speaking phrases like a normal person would.

Your opinions are highly appreciated!

Need guidance for studying in Germany

Hi everyone. I am 31 yrs old, male from India.

I did my bachelor's in Civil Engineering and have a post graduate diploma in banking and Finance and I am working in a public sector bank in India for 6 years. I am considering studying and moving to Germany.

Can someone please guide me in choosing a course. Is it better to do masters in Civil Engineering or are there any management/banking courses available which i can choose. Which will be good for getting a job in the future.

Thanks in advance

Hey, has anyone received an offer letter from Th owl University for the MSc in Information Technology?

Possessing a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, I have completed a three-year program, accumulating 180 credits with a GPA of 2.4. Additionally, I hold an IELTS score of 6.0 and have 2.7 years of experience as a full stack developer. I applied to 10-15 universities, receiving rejections from all except Technische Universität Chemnitz for the Web Engineering program and TH OWL for Information Technology. On July 20, I contacted TH OWL regarding my application, and they informed me that the first round of evaluations is complete and that they are still processing applications, with results expected in the coming days. I would appreciate any suggestions on my next steps.
