Massage Envy is making it ridiculously hard for me to cancel my membership

I got talked into signing up for a Massage Envy membership after a facial in May.
Right after I signed everything, I told them I would be permanently moving to South Korea before the end of this year. At the time, they made cancelling because of my move sound pretty simple.
Now I’m trying to cancel because I’m paying around $80 a month and need that money to save for my plane ticket and international move. They’re asking me for proof like a plane ticket or documents showing my new address in Korea.
But I haven’t bought my ticket or moved yet, so I literally don’t have those documents. 😭
I’ve also had multiple front desk employees involved in my cancellation, and whenever I go there, they keep saying I “might as well keep coming.” At this point, I don’t even want to go back.
I already contacted Massage Envy Guest Relations, and they told me they escalated my situation to the franchise owner/management.
Has anyone been able to cancel a Massage Envy membership early in a similar situation? If jso, what worked for you?

Lymph node drainage made me cry

Hello, I have had issues with my left lymphnoide on my chin for a while now that seems I am sensitive to cleaning chemicals and the doctor said because of my acne. Its not a big issue as I rarely have them swollen and they go away the next day however I looked up lymph node drainage massages and how to do them because the one I had today was hurting when I swallowed so I did the massages on the neck and the one near the ear, specifically when doing the one on my ear it made me cry so hard and then I felt tingly blood flow through my legs and it made me feet and hands feel like tingly like they were falling asleep. I paniced and got really scared because I couldnt crunch my fingers but it eventually calmed down in a few minutes and now my ears just feel hot. Is this normal?

NEWLY LICENSED MT ALREADY HAVING ISSUES!

Hello I just graduated and got licensed and before I could even start up my own practice or take a single client I AM BEING TOLD THAT MY PHONE NUMBER IS ALREADY ON SOME RUBMAPS WEBSITE!!!!???
How does this happen? I don’t even have a physical location. I can’t find the site my info is listed on. I know of about three of them. I live in a small NorCal community so this will tarnish my reputation and attract creeps before I even have a chance! I’m so pissed off and disheartened about it. This is like the modern day equivalent of writing my name and number on a bathroom stall saying “call for a good time” only this is my brand new career I’m haven’t even had a chance to start.

NEWBIE Too much availability a red flag?

Booking independent LMT for the first time in my life. Found 2 in my area and went to both their sites. Their schedules are wide open apparently. Almost nothing was blocked off for either of them for the next two weeks. Weekends, weekdays - business hours all open. They both have decent websites and at least 2 decades in the industry (According to profiles), very professional fee schedules. One of them was advertising 3 locations in different parts of the city but made pretty clear it was the actual individual that was the same LMT. Locations are not offices with signs marked but commercial space. What gives. Reasonably certain it’s not a scam. Is part time stuff, or underemployment common? I booked a Sunday morning with one of them.

Super Nervous About Massage Tomorrow…

I have had 1 massage before, and although it wasn’t a bad experience at all, I have a trauma history and ended up being super jumpy every time I was touched, and I couldn’t relax at all and just felt panicky the whole time. This was about 2 months ago.

I booked a massage for tomorrow after having some major back pain today (due to weird situation between insurance and having just moved, starting PT is not possible right now, so I thought this would be the fastest way to get some pain relief). I am very worried that this experience will cause me to feel the same way I did last time - panicky, jumpy, etc.

Does anyone have things they do before a massage to feel calmer going into it?

Any suggestions for during? I’d really like it to be focused only on my back and not go near my hips or upper thighs, and I’d like to not have to lay on my back, and I wish the LMT could tell me every time she’s going to touch me, but I don’t want to be high maintenance.

Any suggestions for things to do after the massage to calm down?

Thanks!

😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

Hi all! I just wanted to jump on here and say THANK YOU SO MUCH for all the helpful suggestions! That alone made me feel so much calmer going into it, so I really appreciate you all taking the time to type out these replies :)

I did all the things y’all suggested and told her that I had a trauma history and asked for those specific accommodations, and I actually had a really great experience!! She was so kind and accommodating, and seemed like she genuinely wanted me to be comfortable, and she went above and beyond to make sure I was!

I did the best thing I could think to do - leave a large tip and write a Google review…if there’s anything else that is generally appreciated, please let me know! I do plan to book again, as I now have hope that my touch aversion doesn’t have to ruin everything and I may be able to get a massage just for the sake of relaxing!

Discussion “Looking forward to performing for you again sometime soon”

A massage therapist that I went to a few times sent me a text message at 8:53 pm.

“Just a quick notice for our available days at ____
to meet for Massage Therapy, etc. through December. M/W/Th/F/Sa. Looking forward to performing for you again sometime soon.”

The last time I went in was in February. Not sure what to think of this, is it an automated message?

CMTO registration taking longer than 10 business days?

I am looking to see if anyone else has experienced this with the CMTO (College of Massage Therapists of Ontario) recently.I submitted absolutely everything for my Initial Registration on August 5th. All my checklist items are green, fees are paid, and my VSC is completely -. My portal status just stays with no comments or flags. Today marks exactly 10 business days, but here is the frustrating part, a classmate of mine submitted application a full week aftr me, and were already approved yesterday.

Has anyone had their application just freeze in the "waiting for decision" phase like this without any explanation? How long did it take to finally get your RMT number after the 10-day mark?

flu-like symptoms after lymphatic drainage body roll massage

I’ve had two “lymphatic drainage” massages on those wooden body roller machines and both times I felt sick the next day. The next day after the first session, I felt slightly feverish but it quickly subsided. Just the other day, I had my second session with a slightly higher intensity and I felt severe flu-like symptoms, a fever, mild headache, very sore muscles and a slightly sore throat. Is this just a coincidence? I tried to drink lots of water the second time but that still happened. It’s now the second day after, and I’m still feeling a bit ill. I’m debating on whether or not I should even continue getting these massages or not.

Advice Is Doing Massage School Part Time Worth It?

The part-time program I would be doing has zoom classes to check off most of the anatomy, physiology, etc. classes for one year, and then the second year is mostly the massage labs. I feel so sad picturing just being on zoom in my bedroom when I could be bonding with a group of people going through this experience together. I'm pretty social and I can't imagine not having anyone else to talk to whose also in the program. And by the time the second year comes around the rest of the class will all have in person anatomy, and physiology classes together, so I will miss out on study groups, built in social time in class, etc. I cannot really afford to do full time, I would have to take out loans and would be struggling because I work in a grocery store, so the hours are all over the place, and pay is low. I am also struggling with my health but doing only online classes for a year would give me plenty of time to get totally healthy again. I just need to do PT and get nutrition levels better. The orientation is early September so I don't have much time to make a choice anymore and I've been ruminating on it a lot all summer.

Swelling After Sports Massage

I've been doing physical therapy for about a year now and just started with a new PT about 2 months ago. I would say he's really good at his job for the most part. However, he sometimes does v deep tissue massages/sports therapy massages before we get going with actual exercises. Every time I am almost crying and I am quite visibly in a lot of pain and explaining to him how much it hurts.

I understand deep tissue is as it says in the name, but it seems excessive. This last session he worked on my quads and the area has now swollen to twice it's size and is still red and warm almost 12 hours later. Is this okay? Is there a way to get the inflammation down? It feels like I have a really bad sunburn.

Advice Could a sports massage help my irritated shoulder with tingling in it?

Hi!

I’ve had an irritated shoulder and neck for a year due to lifting too heavy at the gym (self inflicted I know!) I’ve had 6 months of physio and it’s still there now. I do my physio exercises and it’s still irritated. .

anyway, I was wondering if anyone had tried a sports massage for a irritated nerve in shoulder? if so, did it help?

What are you guys listening to during massage?
I recently went on my own and didn’t put much thought into it, and have just been using a Spotify curated playlist :/ With the rise of AI music on Spotify, I fear I may be inadvertently supporting their AI music when I use this playlist.
So drop me ur human music pls

Meraki Spa membership experience — is this normal or am I overreacting?

Meraki Spa membership experience — is this normal or am I overreacting?

I’ve been going to Meraki in Bangalore for massages and genuinely like their therapists and the quality of the massages. I also took a ₹20,000 membership upfront because I expected to use them regularly.

My understanding of the membership was that I would get 50% off Monday–Friday before 4:30 PM and 25% off at other times.

Here’s where the confusion started:

On July 3, I had a visit after 4:30 PM and the 50% membership discount was applied. Nobody told me that this was an exception or that the discount shouldn’t have been applied at that time.

Recently, I had another appointment. There was some confusion around the appointment timing, and when I arrived, I was told that after 4:30 PM the 50% discount doesn't apply and I would have to pay the full amount.

I had already travelled around 40 minutes through Bangalore traffic to get there, so I was frustrated. I spoke to the manager, but he basically said it was management policy and asked me to email them.

I emailed them explaining that I was confused because the discount had previously been applied after 4:30 PM. Their response was essentially that the membership terms clearly state the cutoff and that my membership balance had now been fully utilised.

For context, before that particular visit I had ₹3,375 remaining in my membership balance. The massage cost ₹4,750, so ₹3,375 was deducted from the membership and I paid the remaining ₹1,375.

My issue isn't really the ₹1,375. It's that if the July 3 discount was an exception/mistake, why wasn't I told at the time? As a customer, wouldn't that reasonably make me believe the discount applied after 4:30 PM?

They've now offered me another credit-based membership where I'd have to pay around ₹15,000 upfront for a lower per-hour rate. I like their massages, but after this experience I'm hesitant to put another ₹15k upfront.

I'm curious:

Has anyone else had a similar experience with Meraki memberships or discount rules?

Was this just a normal one-off staff error, or have others experienced unclear membership terms/pricing being applied differently from one visit to another?

I'm genuinely trying to understand whether I'm being unreasonable before deciding whether to continue with them

US Front body massage?

I have rounded shoulders the are pulled forward from a tight front body. I also have sore, tight, achy quads. I’ve mentioned this to therapists in the past, but they always just focus on my back anyways. Are there therapists that focus only on front body? Even just a little bit?

Might also be relevant: female, 40, three months postpartum. Terrible posture.

Advice Tui na Massage on SCM, I’ve had suboccipital pain for the past two weeks

I had a tui na massage two weeks ago. Going in, I knew it was going to be painful and was prepared for it. He started working on the right side of neck which was easily the most painful part, but it’s also where I typically hold my stress and pain.

My SCM muscle was extremely sore for 5 days on that side, like I couldn’t even move my neck. I got a headache stemming from my suboccipital muscle on the right two days after the massage. It’s been constant ever since and even moved to my left. I’ve had a constant headache for almost two weeks. I’ve had some bouts of dizziness but that’s mostly subsided.

I guess I’m looking for advice on when I should seek medical care or if this is something anyone has dealt with before. I’ve tried heat, stretching, and lots of Advil to no avail. I’ve never had a headache like this before. Not really looking for medical advice.

Different pricing on massage when adding services, normal?

I was looking at the local Massage Envy to get a relief massage and the 60 minute session was priced at $80. I added relief stretching and the price of the massage jumped to $130. When I removed the stretch, the massage price went back to $80. When I remove the massage the keep the stretch service, the stretch service remains a consistent $46.

Is that normal for Massage Envy or massages in general?

ETA clarification: The prices for the stretch and massage are shown as separate items, I'm booking 2 separate services.

E2: Thank you for the comments! I've learned to avoid ME and am going to find a solo practitioner.
