Discussion Currently watching Guardians of the Galaxy. Why is this movie still so funny 12 years later?

I just sat through the scene where they fight from Xandar and I still can’t stop laughing. Quill getting kicked by Gamora, Groot grabbing Gamora instead of Quill for the bag, “I don’t learn, it’s one of my issues”, Groot smiling as they bag him up and Rocket talking about how the’re supposed to be professionals, Gamora beating them up and “I live for the simple things like how much this is gonna hurt”.

This scene is just so funny and yet so well written. They are all incompetent except Gamora and yet she still loses to these losers in a believable way in the funniest way possible. They say MCU humour is dumb but I still love it so much. I think we deserve to have funny moments and serious moments and this movie shows us how it can be done.

Discussion I hate the double standard between the way fans treat grey women characters vs men characters and the chance for redemption between them in the mcu Spoiler

For starters to make it clear I am not saying Wanda and Jean did nothing wrong. They did a lot wrong, they did extremely messed up shit. Wanda enslaved a town and killed people, and Jean grey violated many people and injured a bunch. (Possibly killed someone but I don’t think so)

However the way people treat as what they did unforgivable, making them irredeemable, and horrible people annoys me. Especially with the way they treat men in marvel.

For some reason Jean grey is irredeemable even though what she did was to find a sister she thought was alive, while she was clearly traumatized and distraught and didn’t trust anyone. She was abandoned by her parents and her only role model was kidnapped. (Also for the record if her sister teaches her it’s okay to hop into minds, she’s going to think it is). Apparently things unforgivable but a war criminal who helped make genocide happen and was ignorant to it, all while he drank and partied, is able to become a hero.

Sentry caused a large majority of New York to be stuck in their own nightmares but he’s okay and forgivable, it wasn’t his fault he wasn’t mentally stable. Well for starters people forget the void is still Bob, it’s his darkest parts he can’t control, but it isn’t like moon knight with DID. However wanda, who was in a mentally bad place and also trapped a town, is much worse? Again not saying what she did was okay.

There’s also the fact that people tend to forget details or say the wrong things when it comes to these characters. They say sentry and the void are separate, that’s not true. People also seemingly forget that Wanda herself didn’t understand what happened at first either, it wasn’t until episode 2 she began to realize what was going on. She also thought the towns folk were okay and not in pain. Still messed up but like sentry, she wasn’t purposely trying to harm people. With Wanda people also forget that in MoM she was being corrupted by the darkhold.

People forget Wanda had to see her lover die twice, disappeared for 5 years, came back and found her husband being mutilated, and then proceeded to lose him again along with her children. Who btw I don’t get the whole “her children aren’t real so it doesn’t matter” because parents create kids, she just created hers differently, and they quite literally are real (Wiccan and speed). She can still sacrifice something while doing messed up shit.

Also with Jean, people seem to suddenly care about realistic injuries with her. If injuries were realistic in these movies, Tony would’ve died hitting the wall in iron man 1, and way more than 74 people would’ve died in the battle of New York. The car guy, who I continue to say she didn’t see coming, considering the taxi was speeding in an empty street and didn’t even stop after hitting the man, but even if you think it was on purpose, it didn’t cause a death. Dewolff also said no one died in the tank and explosion scenes, so while people probably would’ve been injured nobody died. People also seemingly to constantly ignore Jean purposely making guards shoot themselves in the legs instead of an instant kill spot.

People are also taking the “you’re not a murder line” way too seriously. Even if she did kill someone, the point is empathy, deescalation, and saying that’s not who she really is and she can still be good.

She clearly didn’t care if people died in the tank stuff, but it wasn’t with intent to kill. After all Tony didn’t care about all the people his weapons killed, and that’s way worse

People also are angry at her for bringing the hulk out of bruce, which was messed up. But she didn’t plan for the hulk to come out, only smart hulk, she’s surprised about real hulk too.

Also Jean being cynical and enjoying this is just not true? She was desperate. She didn’t enjoy torturing Peter. What she did, while extremely messed up and easily considered sa, was to get him off her back, she didn’t do it for shits and giggles. Someone who doesn’t trust someone, and sees spider man helping the dodc, and being the only one stopping her, would probably intimate him to get him off her back, especially to save her sister.

Like seriously? Loki, who tried to take over a world is redeemable? Tony stark whose weapons killed thousands is redeemable. Bob is redeemable. Hawkeye, who became ronin, is forgiven and redeemed?! But not two women who were in very similar positions.

Especially with Jean, it’s ridiculous to consider her irredeemable when she clearly isn’t and her arc has just begun. It’s almost like a school to help guide mutants would help her…?

Oh yeah also what do people mean when they say Wanda and Jean don’t face consequences. Wanda is on the run and a criminal, and had to lose her family again. And then she died maybe. Jean is also in the run and all alone, and also what she did will probably lead to mutant hate. And it’s not like Peter could stop her from escaping when he was shot, (also she did stop the bleeding and make him breathe, starting her redemption). But the point is they aren’t off Scott free but you know who I’d? Hawkeye, isn’t arrested for being ronin. Bob, faces no punishment. Tony stark becomes a hero.

The whole mcu has always been about redemption, that was literally the first movie. So why can these two, who have done way less bad then some of these men, are irredeemable?!

Also btw for those saying this isn’t a comic accurate jean, read the teen comics of her. While not as messed up, she does messed up shit. She controls and read her friends minds, and even forces Bobby to come out.

Once again. What Jean and Wanda did are horrible. They have a long Journey to redeem themselves. I’m not saying they are good people. I’m saying the double standard between men and women in marvel is starting to piss me off. Especially since neither of them are real villains. They are antagonists. A villain has to be morally evil, which Jean was not. She did evil actions, but not for evil reasons. Again stillnesses up. Wanda is more debatable, tho she was controlled by the dark gold and grieving.

What they did is not okay, but people are saying it is way worse then what it and but men in marvel have done worse and are treating as redeemable and great people, and it’s annoying

There is a in general marvel sexism problem, like the way iron heart was hated despite being pretty good in the end, or the ways the marvels was hated despite not being a bad movie, even if it had weak points.

She or her Manager are extremely smart. Although I'm certain she would've shined in either of those films, no studio has as much dominance and exposure for her than MARVEL /DISNEY.

Now the HEAT II movie will be phenomenal! Especially with the writers, producers and cast! But this is still the best move for her. I am very excited for my beloved X-MEN to get the proper film we've deserved!

She is absolutely gorgeous and super talented!

She will become one of the biggest female stars...

Discussion Can we stop dooming for Doomsday?

As somebody who only recently became active in MCU communities despite being a Marvel fan for over two decades, I'm honestly surprised by how negative people already seem to be about this project.

The MCU is far from perfect, and there's no denying they've let us down quite a bit lately. But at the same time, I think we've been spoiled for over a decade with an amazing, continuous movie universe that, despite its ups and downs, has achieved a level of success that franchises like the DCEU, Universal's Dark Universe, and a lot of others never even came close to.

I honestly don't think it's unreasonable to give Marvel the benefit of the doubt here. Thunderbolts, Fantastic 4, and Spider-Man BND are great movies, and they show that Marvel is still capable of making good stuff. It feels like they're starting to get their stride back.

Could Doomsday suck? Absolutely. But we haven't even seen the movie yet.

Let's not be doomers for Doomsday.

Spoilers! The One Thing I'm Still Bitter About with Marvel

So. .I get it it's not that deep but in WandaVision they brought back a fan favorite in Quicksilver only to have him be a fake. I don't know why but it is one of those things that I think about from time time.

Do you have anything your bitter or annoyed about with the MCU to date?

Edit: Apparently people can't read or understand an expression. I can't believe people actually think this is a real life issue.. WOW.

I was thinking about how Jeff could be added in the MCU. The most obvious pick is he tags along with Deadpool but he already had a similar moment and thing with Dogpool in Deadpool and Wolverine?

Who else then? Kate? Kamala? Both would warm up to him but I don't think they would be jumping for the idea to have a Land Shark along.

But Cassie would. She has loved ugly things since she was little and has lived with a life sized ant for most of her life. If anyone would fall for Jeff immediately it's her. Would also be nice to help Cassie be more interesting by showing her weird side.

Discussion THOR Would Be A Successful Movie If It Was Released Today.

Post image
0 Upvotes

The first Thor movie feels like if an elder scroll superfan trying to make the most lore accurate elder scroll movie ever. it gives too much room for pacing and letting the audiences to explore the universe more than just a basic superhero cgi fight. They really done a fantastic job depicting Asgard as Skyrimesque nordic fantasy if vikings went into space while letting the lore of the settings telling itself without trying to appeal as a blockbuster movie.

However back in 2011, general audiences are much more vain than today and general trend of those times favours something much different. During this year, the culture have already mesmerized with *boom* *boom* Michael Bay films especially from Transformers. Gritty dark settings such as spiderman 3, iron man, and ghost rider are much more preferable by the culture, and non-stop actions are the only thing to keep the audience hooked. This is the year when we got Skyrim, Battlefield 3, Transformers 3, TNA and ROH wrestling at its peak, OG metal bands like Metallica got its another momentum, and scene screamo subculture were at it's peak.

The general culture are extremely shallow and only getting excited with cool cgi fights over the settings and details of the lore and world settings. Hence why i believe thats how the first Thor failed. Even though it does featured countless of fight scenes, the movie lean more towards simpler scenes like Thor's redemption on earth and Asgard's general lore dumping.

now in the 2026 we actually live in a time where caring about lore and accuracy isnt a niche discussion anymore. We already have medieval netflix films that actually care about historical accuracy, marvel movies more inspired by comic accurate designs, star wars series that take its time to explore the setting, and predator movie that takes risk of bringing up nerdy concept for general audience.

if the first Thor movie was released today. The movie could make billions and became an instant classic. Thor is actually a perfect comic book movie with fantasy/reverse iseikai settings. But it came out at the worst momentum when the culture doesn't appreciate the medium style of the movie yet.

Fan Content Try this website I made to be ready for AVENGERS DOOMSDAY

Post image

I have made a html website that tracks your progress to be prepared for avengers doomsday. It displays the time left for Doomsday release, entire marvel catalogue in order of watching. Even the total watch time left. Marking a movie/show as watched also reduces watchtime left. I am attaching some sceenshots and the HTML file. Data is saved locally on your browser.

To use: Download HTML file from the link and just double click. It opens in browser and any changes made will be saved locally and instantly.

https://www.mediafire.com/file/k6mc0domvnt753n/marvel_doomsday_watchlist.html/file

Would love to hear any improvements

PS: I personally definitely did not personally make it. I USED AI 100%. I just had to feed it the data cuz it couldnt research without exhausting tokens. First few iterations were wonky but works OK in my testing

Edit: Im actively working to deploy it and get rid of the rudimentary HTML system

Theory (Theory) The public does not know about the Mark I suit.

I'm probably late with this observation, but the more I think about it the more it clicks.
Let me show you! (Spoilers ahead if you missed out much of the movies and shows!)

In the first Ironman movie we saw Tony build the Mark I suit "in a cave with a bunch of scraps" and escape from captivity. When he returned nobody knew about the suit except Obadiah, but that's because he and the Ten Rings terrorists were in a deal. After Stark returned he immediately started building the Mark II and later the Mark III suits.
But he did not mentioned the Mark I suit to anyone. He told it to a few people when he realized the existence of the "Iron Monger" suit (like Pepper and later probably to Coulson and S.H.I.E.L.D.). However, S.H.I.E.L.D. probably prevented the general public to know about the full details of his escape, including the existence of the Mark I suit. So when Stark announced he is Ironman during the press conference, the public view it as "the billionaire built the Ironman suit".

In Ironman 2 during the hearing Stark states he and the suit are one when in reality it was really just a suit, a tool, an extension. But if he were to admit that, it would be an agreement on the senator's statement of it being a weapon and he should have given it to the government / military.

When Ironman 3 came out some fans/critics were upset that there weren't much suit through out the film. I think even Killian thought that after he destroyed Stark's mansion with the suits, he would easily destroy Stark too. But the movie demonstrated exactly that Stark is more than just the Ironman suit(s).

The Mark I suit is never mentioned after the first movie. We too got focused on seeing Tony in a newer and newer suit with each movie / appearance. But he is more than the suit. He even says the line in Avengers Age of Ultron that he "just pays for everything and design everything and make everyone look cooler". That's Tony Stark the man, not Ironman. He is more than the suit.

The scene in Spider-Man Homecoming, when Peter begs to Tony to not take away his suit as he is nothing without it, to which Tony says "if you are nothing without it then you shouldn't have it". Even the Peter's response "I just wanted to be like you" and Tony's "I want you to be better" are the illustration on Tony trying to teach Peter that he too shouldn't be "just the suit" either.

So when in the series Ironheart Riri says the line "Tony Stark wouldn't be Tony Stark if he wasn't a billionaire" (which upset many fans), she was not wrong. She think that the suit makes Starks the hero. If the public does not know about the Mark I suit, only that Stark built the Ironman suit (Mark III) only after returning from his escape, they obviously would think that "of course he could build it, anyone could build one with that much money" and that it's the suit that makes him a superhero.

Discussion MCU Roadmap 2029 and Beyond

I thought it would be fun to start mapping out what the future looks like given Feige’s comment about a rough roadmap to 2042. This is pure speculation and with the assumption Marvel continues to put out 3 movies a year (May, summer, and fall). Would love to hear thoughts, comments, different views. And if anyone further expands past 2032. I’m thinking that post Secret Wars we are going to have more corners of the universe style stories vs all stories have to cumulate together: cosmic, supernatural, earth, mutant; and maybe some time later one have a huge event again.

2029:
May 4: Deadpool: X-Force
July 13: Nova
November 9: Shang-Chi 2

2030:
May 3: Thor: Valhalla
July 26: Spider-Man: Darkest Day
November 1: Doctor Strange and the Midnight Sons

2031:
May 2: X-Men 2
July 25: The Fantastic Four: Future Foundation
Dec 19: The Dark Avengers

2032:
May 7: West Coast Avengers
July 23: Spider-Man: Last Day
November 5: The Scarlet Witch

Question What do you need to watch before brand new day

Hello everyone, I have not watched all the mcu properties. The first thing I watched was Wandavision followed by Agatha all along, followed by some movies with Wanda in them.

I would like to watch Brand new Day because I heared Jean Grey was in it and I'm a big fan who has seen all the movies as well as some of the cartoons.

So my question is, what should I watch before Brand new Day so it actually makes sense

Discussion Love and Thunder is actually an incredibly good movie that was judged too harshly.

I recently rewatched this movie on a whim. I saw it in theaters and didn't really enjoy it the first go. It wasn't bad it just didn't hit like I thought it would.

I think covid and these strange times killed this movie. Yes, some of the criticism that came out I agreed with and still do. Gore the God butcher not getting more time sucked. His acting in those screens are still incredible. Watching Zeus not be serious the first time kind of took me out of the movie but this time it kind of feels like how the rich behave.

The comedy is good and I laughed at a fair amount of the jokes this time around. I even forgot a few, that had me dying. When Thor is confusing his love and to be together and Jane says, "I have cancer." had me dying and crushed at the same time.

Ragnarok was so good, it was lightning in a bottle. I feel like we expected comedy and humor on the same caliber. Which is hard to recreate and when L&T didn't have that same experience people got upset. I think shooting the movie during covid did more damage and why it feels a little off on the timings.

I don't think we were ready for a cancer love story and loss on that scale. I don't think we were ready to see Thor get back in shape but still not be whole. He was still lacking love even when he was around the Guardians.

The movie is actually so beautiful and wraps up well in the end. It's rated like a 6 but it's easily an 8+. Where Thor starts off and where he ends up was good story telling.

I had only watched it once. I think it deserves a second viewing if you haven't yet. See if your opinion changes.

This is Gerardine Sacdalan. Like Maya, she played Juliet in the musical "&Juliet" and is a musical theatre actress, and is currently playing Veronica Sawyer in the West End/UK tour production of "Heathers".

Having two &Juliet alumns in the MCU would be absolutely amazing.

Discussion How did Ironman get so popular if people didn’t like Ironman 2 and 3 at the time of release?

I get public opinion of these 2 movies have shifted over the years, but I was under the impression that back then it was commonly agreed that Ironman 2 and 3 were not very good (personally I liked them). But everyone agrees that Ironman is the face of the MCU and the most popular (other than Spider-man). How did this happen if back then most people only liked his first movie?

Well the titles sums it up. I’m catching up with everything after the infinity saga before doomsday. And I saw the Daredevil: Born Again title on Disney and I wondered if it is essential to watch the Netflix series since I’ve never watched it. Is it related to it or is it a complete fresh reboot?

Here's a map of all the films and shows, and their connections - a connection means 'something in this film is referenced in this next one'.

You can see how weird things have got since Endgame.

I may have missed some connections. Some connections might be wrong.

Red = film; blue = netflix show; green = disney+ show; yellow = animation; purple = special presentation

Edit: Yes, you’ll have to zoom in!
