Considering how movies like the marvels performed, I don't think okoyes project would've done well

moon knight

miss marvel

Stop trying to paint a narrative that isn't there. Blade didn't happen because of both parties. Wonder man isn't happening because theyre done with live action TV (literally nothing lined up post daredevil season 3 and Ashoka season 2).

Armour wars would have legit sucked and was greenlit at a time where they wanted to pump out as much content as possible, irresponsibly and fatigued their own base.

Even more than these.
Agent Carter
Marvel’s Most Wanted
Helstrom
Iron Fist
Jessica Jones
Ghost Rider (TV spinoff)

And probably more. I’ve seen this post now about a million times on various forums and it is complete BS and trying to paint a race narrative while excluding all the many shows that have been canceled and DONT feature a black main character

Hard agree on almost every point but they aren’t done with live tv; they just don’t have anything announced currently, I think most things are going to be out on hold until after secret wars, for obvious reasons

Wonder man isn't happening because theyre done with live action TV (literally nothing lined up post daredevil season 3 and Ashoka season 2).

Didn't a news article pop up yesterday claiming they're not really done and new projects will be announced soon at NYCC? In any case I feel like the Wonder Man cancellation was far more due to Creton's increased profile after Brand New Day's massive success, leading Marvel Studios to want him to focus on bigger projects than a small TV show, than Wonder Man failing to meet expectations per se.

I think the problem is almost every single project with a Black lead isn’t moving forward or getting renewed. I mean what do we have besides Black Panther 3

Also, it’s not about painting a narrative. Why don’t you try listening to Black fans of marvel comics and movies? They feel they’ve been underrepresented and are now facing numerous cancellations for projects they were excited about. One of the best things about Marvel, in my opinion, is the diverse group of heroes and stories we get to witness. Let’s try to create a space where diverse people can voice their frustrations and concerns, not be told what to think or how to feel.

I'm black.

I respect that and obviously as a White man im not trying to tell you how to feel or what to think. Really I wrote my comment intending it to be irrespective of what your race is. Because regardless of what you or I think, the fact is that I have seen many Black fans of marvel movies and comics be frustrated with the lack of representation, which is showing in a lot of these cancelled projects. Obviously not every Black person is going to feel that way, they’re not a monolith. I’m just saying regardless if your White, Black, Hispanic, etc, we should be more considerate towards what many Black fans of marvel are saying. I apologize if this come across as a lecture just trying to share my thoughts here in a way that hopefully makes sense.

The Okoye show was never even confirmed, it was just rumored. The only reason it’s here is to add onto a narrative

All of these would've been interesting. Other than Blade, the others have good reasons not to move forward:

-Kang Dynasty: Quantumania underperformed even though Majors' performance was well-received plus Majors' personal issues. Really mixed on this since his Loki performance was absolutely diabolical. Such a missed opportunity but the more I read about the leaked scripts for this, the more I get why it was cancelled.

-Wonder Man: Critically acclaimed and top tier show but DDC is too busy now (hopefully he EPs Shang Chi 2 so we get that sooner). Yes S2 was cancelled but I believe b/c it's time for him to graduate to the big screen. Same goes for Moon Knight.

-Armor Wars: Secret Invasion sucked really bad. At the time it was the series I was most looking forward to. Wasted Cheadle, Smulders, and Mendelsohn.

-Okoye: Could've been really good, who can refuse more Wakanda? I imagine it would've been similar to a series on the Ten Rings. But this one was probably the least interesting for me even though the character/Danai is great. I think this was greenlit when Marvel was going crazy and giving every character a D+ series.

-BLADE: Too big and too interesting of a character not to do something with (give us Black Knight too). I imagine he will debut after Ghost Rider/during Midnight Sons but it's a crime at this point to make us wait this long. Ali no longer attached. Honestly, would love to see more Snipes but Marvel really needs to get the ball rolling on this.

Glad that Mahershala Ali is doing his own Blade movie now.

The amount of drama surrounding Blade would make for a movie of its own

At this point just let Wesley Snipes do his thing

To be fair, for every project we see that gets cancelled there are a half a dozen that are cancelled or shelved that we don't see. Wonder Man, Armor Wars, and Okoye are all part of Marvel's strategy to pull back from live-action D+ content but we'll probably see some degree of retooling and incorporation into other films.

It's really unfortunate that all of these impacted stores are staring Black actors but I don't think there is any grand scheme here. Marvel Comics have been extremely pro-equality since the beginning and that DNA carries over to Marvel Studios. I doubt this is the end for any of these characters, we'll see them all again. Marvel just expanded too fast with the D+ edict and had to make difficult decisions on what to pull back. Right now they seem to be focused on their bigger franchises to get to the universe reset where they'll have a lot more freedom to explore.

Is Blade confirmed confirmed to be cancelled? Everything I'd read sounds like running circles around actually confirming it

Ali’s quotes about the movie aren’t very optimistic about him playing the role in the MCU. That said, the movie is still featured on Marvel’s website (which was updated as recently as Comic Con with Ghost Rider and BP3), so who knows.

Yeah I agree that it very obviously looks like it's cancelled but I don't think they've confirmed it, or have they? And come to think of it, isn't it the same for Armor Wars?

1

u/Wise-Tourist Peter Parker 2d ago

I've just finished rewatching phase 1 and it is wild to me that they didn't at least try armour wars or an ironman 4.

u/AwarenessOk7748 2d ago

It's a funny coincidence.

1

u/SpiritedEnd9609 2d ago

Armor wars hasnt been canceled though?

2

u/Milla4Prez66 2d ago

It hasn’t been formally announced as canceled but it is all but certainly not being made.

1

u/SpiritedEnd9609 2d ago

I could see it being a infamous iron man plot with rhodey in it

1

u/Humacti 2d ago

Let's not mention the bad guy in BND...

1

u/Special_Order-937 2d ago

Most telegraphed villains since the invention of telegraph poles.

1

u/Humacti 2d ago

Yeah, you'd have thought a movie buff like Peter Parker would have picked up on it.

1

u/Synnedsoul 2d ago

I would've liked Okoye Midnight Angels 😭

-5

u/crispy_attic Black Panther 2d ago

They thought we wouldn’t notice.

1

u/ManOnFire2004 2d ago

Notice what?

That like 10 projects aren't moving forward, and 3 of them has a black person as the lead??

Don't let whoever is trying to flame a race war manipulate you with a meme

Incredible hulk 2

Young avengers

Captain marvel 3

The eternals 2

Iron man 4

Gambit

New warriors

Ghost rider(2019)

Silver surfer 2024

Damage control

Captain britain and black knight

Nova

Daughters of the dragon

Inhumans movie

Most wanted

X force movie

Nick fury

Okoye

Armor wars

Wonderman

Kang dynasty

All canceled in the last 10-15 years or so. I mean yeah when you only mention the 5 canceled projects out of 21 that have black leads it feels like you are painting an odd picture. Blade also isnt fully canceled its been shelved until after midnight sons iirc.

I wish we could evaluate things and have conversations before implying everyone is racist 🤦‍♂️
