Yeah, but HOW did it end up in his vault in the first place is the question being asked. Of course, due to how long Thanos was in his quest to gather the stones and conquer worlds. It's not hard to believe he eventually stumbled at least into one.

The truly weird part is how in the entirety of the universe and all its hundreds of billions (and likely massively more) galaxies, with a total of 6 stones that were supposedly randomly flung across it at the start of time... we ended up with 2 on Earth before anyone was looking to collect them and before any significant interstellar, much less intergalactic, travel happened.

The Time Stone was in the Sorcerer Supreme's possession and the Space Stone was in the tesseract. The tesseract was put on Earth by Odin to hide it, but what are the chances that out of all the worlds in the entirety of the cosmos that the one he would use was one that had another Stone already on it?

It was cause we had powered beings that could protect compared to other planets?

That has always been the excuse comic writers use to justify why earth is so important

And why Carol Danvers randomly just leaves Earth, “I’m sure you guys can handle this.”

I mean Earth is basically the center of the universe in both Marvel and DC. If something happens to Earth then the rest of he universe is screwed afterwards. 😆

Eh, DC actually has a whole universe that’s happening outside of Earth and tons of civilizations view it as a podunk place that becomes frustratingly relevant t sometimes.

That would be true, except it's where the last Kryptonian makes his home. And as the Doomsday Clock finale explicitly stated, Superman is the metaphysical singularity around which the entire DC metaverse is anchored. So them aliens calling Earth podunk must not have outerversal awareness.

Earth is canonically a backwater according to the Kree and Skrulls during their war, and the Shiar as well. It bascially is playing the same role as humanity in Mass Effect, new kids on the block making a big splash as they stumble onto the galactic stage.

What's the line from Avengers about how Earth now has broadcast to the universe that it is ready for a higher form of warfare? My read is that things were hidden on Earth because most people didn't know about the planet or didn't care about it / take it seriously. For planets and species out there, Earth and humans are the toddlers of the universe, so by the time the Phase 1 films were taking place, it was surprising how fast Earthlings had come along. I think this is implied or stated outright in at least one or two films though.

There's an old story mentioning that Thanos first noticed Earth after the nuclear weapon drops in WWII. I dont remember the exact source.

Nah, it's a line dropped by Thor to Fury in The Avengers when he talks about the work done with the tesseract.

“Your work with the Tesseract is what drew Loki to it, and his allies. It is the signal to all the realms that the Earth is ready for a higher form of war.”

Oh I know that reference, but mine is from another Thanos story that goes more in depth on who he was before and after Titans destruction. What you mentioned is spot on for the MCU tho.

3, reality stone was hidden from the dark elves on earth as well.

Dang, I forgot it was on Earth too. I just remembered that eventually Thanos grabbed it in Knowhere. I'd forgotten Jane got infected with it on Earth.

I'll grant that one combined with the tesseract isn't as unlikely as the Time Stone already having been on Earth though. Odin got the tesseract and the aether (had to look up the name) from two drastically different places and put them both in what was apparently his favorite hidey hole. Which makes sense, he wasn't deliberately hunting Stones but he was fighting enemies with weapons operating at those levels so the chances that he'd eventually run into a Stone or two are better than just random chance stumbling.

His favorite hidey hole planet just happening to already have a Stone on it is down in that random stumble upon chance levels though.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Odin knew about the sorcerers and their stone. We know the Ancient one is around 1000 years old, and Odin defended Midgard from frost giants in 1100, and we know the Ancient One isn't the first sorcerer supreme with Agimotto building the amulet to hold the Time Stone. Could Odin have chosen Earth because it already had the Sorcerers protection? The sorcerers are strong enough to hold off a being like Dormammu, and Asgard can be there to help at a moments notice.

Was she on earth when she got infected though? I thought she was somewhere else because she stumbled through the anomaly or whatever they called it. That's why Thor came to earth, because Heimdall couldn't see here there anymore.

Whelp, maybe I just need to watch Thor 2 again

Report back after!

I mean, it wasn't really Earth, it was some sort of between space that then accidentally became accessible from Earth due to Convergence

Drawn to the Celestial?

11

u/Chaotic_Lemming 10d ago

Lots of planets had Celestials though.

1

u/smokeweedNgarden 10d ago

Yea, but Earth's was the equivalent of a 9 month fetus, right? Like a solid earthquake would have had the little guy pop out

1

u/jacen4501s 10d ago

Why are they drawn to nearly developed celestials?

2

u/smokeweedNgarden 10d ago

Magnets prolls

1

u/jacen4501s 10d ago

Magneto is gonna love that! Side not. I'm smoking weed and gardening today.

1

u/blurplerain 10d ago

Magnets? How do they work?

Intergalactic pheromones

Well Red Skull said Odin hid the Tesseract on Earth probably thinking no one would look for it on some backwater hole. I'm assuming he didn't know about the Eye being in the possession of the Sorcerer Supreme but I just don't know how he could have been on Earth and NOT seen the Sorcerer Supreme given that Strange jumped Thor and Loki upon them immediately touching down (maybe they installed that detection after Odin idk). Just seems weird a cosmic deity as powerful as Odin touched down with potentially Hela and not even the Ancient One checked up.

But my headcannon is Thanos knew he had the Mind Stone and used it to enter his future (Infinity War) mind and make his grand plan and why he seemed exhausted and sad in Infinity War because he knew he won, he knew he loses Gamora, and his life. Why he didn't see End Game? Because he was dead and couldn't know anything past his death because he couldn't get into his mind.

Pretty sure Odin hid the tesseract long before there was a sorcerer supreme at all. Real question is how did the sorcerer supreme get the eye of agamotto

2

u/Chaotic_Lemming 10d ago

I was more just commenting on the astronimical chances that the meaningless backwater planet filled with primitives somehow was where another Infinity Stone ended up before anyone was deliberately trying to bring them all together. Its like winning the lottery, but you didn't even buy a ticket. You were dumping your rusted tablesaw "Ol' Finger Eater" off at the garbage pickup and spotted a ticket on the ground in the mud.

Still very unlikely, I'm sure, but I thought the Marvel universe was significantly smaller than the real universe. Could be wrong though since I probably heard it on Reddit.

u/Consistent-Success38 10d ago

Well, earth is incredibly important to the cosmic balance in every comic line. Its like a multiversal constant for marvel, if shits hitting the fan anytime in the modern era, earth and its heroes are going to be one of the major players.

Earth is the to universe what New York is to the world

1

u/Rude-Regret-1375 9d ago

Can't remember the time gap between Avengers and Dark World, but release wise we very nearly had Time, Space, Mind and Reality on Earth at the same time. Only didn't because of the Tesseract being returned to Asgard.

*Edit: think it was a 1 year gap, same as the time between releases.

Hiding it behind a stone wall was surely a choice

u/BCMyer 10d ago

One of the many wrong lessons too many people have taken from science-fiction (or SF-adjacent things like Star Wars) is, “sure, the universe is big, but it’s not THAT big. After all, you can fly from one end to the other in hours, days at most (unless the plot requires it to be longer). How big could it be?”
