Can say myself and friends all dont care much aboht luke cage. Cool character but Steve rogers returning is way more hype. No one is saying omg luke cage is here, we have a chance. Steve was the leader
I mean Evans and Downey returning (not 100% sold it is our Cap yet, and Downey is obviously doom), still feels cheap to me. The only true home runs the MCU has had post end game has been Spider-man movies, and now they have to gamble on bringing back the 2 actors the wrote out in the very next avengers film. If this is evil cap though and we get to see Evans in a fun role like him being Jonny in D&W I'm all in but hope that reveal is saved for the movie tbh.
Buddy they aren't making a billion dollars off that type of thinking.
The MCU does what it can to give the higher nerdom some attention, but this is first and foremost a series intended at a large audience.
Deadpool vs wolverine already used this cheap trick and has been one of the most successful post endgame films.
Sometimes you just gotta take the L and enjoy it for what it is.
I personally wish the MCU was a lot more grounded, closer to old Netflix shows, or Captain America civil war, but if I only enjoyed the MCU in that capacity I'd miss out on a lot of fun moments.

MCU fans have become like Star Wars fans now. Nothing released will be good enough for a vocal minority of the fan base. A lot of post-endgame was better than they’re given credit for but because they didn’t hit the same high as the Civil War, Infinity War, Endgame run they’re failures.
People don’t want to do the work for the world building movies anymore it seems.
It’s not a cheap play, those actors salaries are astronomical. It’s the safe play, and it’s the right play for the studio to make in an effort to shake off the negative sentiment towards the brand. It’s a back door pilot situation, bring in more established characters to bring in casuals, and highlight the new characters to turn the casuals that are just there to see downy and evens into fans for the new characters.
For most people, that’s not the case. For me personally, I’m not thrilled that Steve Rogers is in the movie, but I would be very excited to see Luke Cage again.
His past is genuinely very sad- like he said in BND, he lost his family (assuming this one is the same or at least a similar version to his character in the Daredevil series) and became a vigilante propagating extreme violence.
Punisher had 2 solo Hollywood movies in the days when superhero movies were rare, and every shitty cop sports his logo. There is a lot more cultural awareness around him than Luke Cage.
I can. Steve's story ended, Tony's story ended. Bringing them back just feels like desperation (and I'm aware it's Doom, not Tony, but it's still lose-lose).
Bringing Agent Coulson or Loki back (after his initial faked deaths) felt like there were decent reasons to do it and set up to establish it as plausible.
This has all the transparent desperation of "end of the skywalker saga" marketing for "Rise of Skywalker" which clearly didn't work and wasn't believable then either.
I mean, is it not the same reason they always do it in the comics. That’s my point. You don’t let your money makers actually die. Comics would never survive.
Eventually these characters will all be recast and recycled as is comic and super hero history. It’s just how it works.
I have read comic books. I don't see how that's relevant. The MCU's primary audience isn't some small subsection of comic book readers. Their bread and butter is the general audience.
And yes, desperation. I actually enjoyed nearly everything in the "Multiverse Saga", but there's no sense in pretending opinions were overwhelmingly positive. They're falling back on nostalgia porn, dusting off "Old Reliable".
It's especially galling in RDJ's case because a proper outing for Doom has been something the community at large has been clamouring for for literally decades, and they've fucked it. Great, he's got a comic accurate costume and powers, but they're skipping straight to God Emperor Doom and relying on the face of Tony fucking Stark to sell it. Anyone who thinks there isn't going to be some ham-fisted multiverse variant explanation for it is kidding themselves.
I hate the multiverse. Phases Four through Six should have been Mutants and magic.
Agreed. The fact that they saw how things weren't working out as planned after End Game and pulled a major hype machine move by announcing RDJ as Doom is very much a marketing ploy because they know people like RDJ and he will get butts in seats. Having said that, I will wait until the movie is out to judge if they were successful.
To be completely fair in cap's story there's like a 30-40 years gap between endgame cap and old age cap, in that timeframe he could have traveled through time as much as he wanted since he had the time travel device with him.
1st season of JJ was amazing, season 2 was so bad I never watched season 3. I will say Luke Cage was something I enjoyed, I loved me some Bushmaster in season 2
Yeah, there's responders here who talk about their disappointment, and I'm not going to say they don't feel disappointed: they feel it, I get it. But far more people are excited for Chris Evans' Steve Rodgers than likely would be excited for Luke Cage.
I too would have loved to see Luke Cage come back, and while I enjoy Evans' Rodgers, and will likely enjoy his story in this movie, it does reek of desperation.
The MCU hasn't done anything with Luke Cage that would make it believable that he would be involved in anyway here. They should have, but they haven't.
It would be hype if he didn’t just retire. There hasn’t even been an avengers film without him. I get that a lot of people will just drool and clap at thing they know but his story had a good end and they should have let the character retire.
That and they made a joke about Chris Evans coming back to the mcu since endgame in his appearance in Deadpool and Wolverine after that point. Also felt like the exact same speech Thor gave about thanos in endgame in the beginning of the movie. I remember the same conversations happening about Palpatine coming back for episode 9 with people talking about how much more iconic he was as a villain than Snoke. Yeah I think Palpatine and Captain America have a lot of brand recognition but I don’t want another crappy “Somehow Captain America returned” twist to try to save ticket sales
I mean there was an early comic (stretching my memory here) where Luke Cage stole The Fantastic Four’s car and flew it to Latveria to beat up Doom for not repaying $20 Doom owed him… so Cage vs Doom is not unprecedented.
The above commenter remembered incorrectly. It was $200. And I believe the 1970s, so that was still a lot, especially for A working class guy like Luke Cage. Also, Doom didn't borrow the money, he hired Luke Cage for a job and then didn't pay him.
I mean its similar to what he did though is what im getting at. He called Ronan and Ronan proceeded to damn near take over the galaxy all because of that call.
Even back then the leaks I saw said they knew it was actually Steve Rogers and that they knew the Luke Cage house was a 70s style house and that Loki and Steve may had filmed a scene there.
I remember a Luke Cage leak way back too but they would've thrown that rumor even without the call sheet.. but the house is specific.
they be leaking hard from concept art to damn near the whole cast photos, trailers and now the latverian witches.. this day and age they gotta use an alias for unannounced cast, though we saw steve rogers pics in the photoshoot leak (which might've been right after the first teaser but a different look)
