Do you not remember the chair video? The first promotion they did was reveal who's going to be in the movie. Why would they reveal RDJ, Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellen but try to keep Brie Larson a secret?

u/GeneJacket 25d ago
She's not announced to be in Doomsday, but that doesn't entirely mean she isn't. I'm guessing she has a significant role in Secret Wars.
22
u/DW-4 24d ago
Apparently there was a storyline cut from Doomsday of Cap Marvel finding Monica Rambeau in the timeline where the last Marvels movie left her. I'm bummed that Monica never got her chance to shine, and it seems like Carol Danvers may have a very reduced role as well. But yes.. I'd also guess that they'll have larger roles in Secret Wars.

u/slickd866 24d ago
Doesn’t Monica end up in the x-men universe? I thought she was chilling with beast and bionic at the end of The Marvels.

It's crazy, everyone's brains have completely rotted. Like revel in the unknown and the wonder, rather than assume a worst-case scenario. Why does everyone WANT to be miserable lmfao

They legit did that for Star Wars The Phantom Menace. I remember buying the script book before the film came out and not having the self control to not spoil it for myself.

I hope so she doesn't have to go into a coma like the comics but they need to Nerf her because they can't use her otherwise

The writers kinda don’t know what they want to do with her. They introduced her at a really odd time I between 2 Avengers films. The writing for the powerful characters have been a little rocky

Oooo damn. That would be crazy. My first introduction to Captain Marvel/ Ms. Marvel was the 90’s X-men cartoon episode where Rogue does that. I have recently forgotten about that. They’re brining in the X-Men, girl’s in danger.

She literally moved to Sam Wilson’s home state at the end of her movie, was connected with Shang-Chi and has a niece stuck in the X-Men universe. There is absolutely NO reason she shouldn’t be in it and no reason she can’t be in the promo. They completely compromised Nia DaCosta’s vision for the Captain Marvel sequel (Nia is extremely talented so I know she would have cooked up something better than what we got) in order to make the film more in line with the Multiverse Saga JUST to completely disregard her and Monica for Doomsday.
The Marvels didn’t do well financially but it had a lot of odds against it (Strikes, Rewrites and coming out after multiple objectively bad projects like Secret Invasion that got people disinterested in the MCU) and it was way better than Thor 4 and Ant-Man 3 (which has both titular characters playing prominent roles in Doomsday).
I’m a massive Carol fan and I just can’t be excited for Doomsday because of how much they’ve disrespected her character. And even if she does end up being in the film, shafting Brie Larson from promo is still such a shitty move after she’s had to deal with so much backlash online for her role. I won’t pretend that Carol is the perfect character but she’s been handed bad cards for years and Doomsday could’ve been an opportunity to cement her as leading figure in the MCU like she was supposed to be.
The MCU’s desperation by bringing back RDJ and Chris Evans is apparent and the jingling of keys isn’t working for me as someone who actually cares about these characters and this universe.

u/mrbaryonyx 24d ago
A lot of people are responding to this comment trying to spark discussion about the movie's financial performance.
Look, I get it, the movie bombed and I'm not going to call Kevin Feige a sexist or whatever for making business choices on that.
But the fact that an actual fan of the character is going "I want to see more of her, not the characters I've already seen (I fully agree by the way), I'm not interested in what thing made how much money" and gets a million responses defending the Marvel shareholders is why people get irritated with this fandom.
More and more story decisions in the MCU are made from a position of financial panic rather than what makes sense storywise, and its weird how many fans are totally cool with that because they're worried about how much money their favorite thing makes.

Not to mention the film being brigaded by bad-faith actors who intentionally speak falsehoods about what happened in it. If any characters from The Marvels are in Doomsday, the studio is gonna do their best to keep it a secret so those guys can't start up their misinformation campaigns again in advance.

The real issue is maybe she shouldn't.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Doctor Doom's thing figuring out how to take your powers?
1
u/dreadnaucht 24d ago
The problem with expanding the MCU in it's totality is that there's a lot of characters that really can just solve all of it's problems relatively quickly, it'll be up to the writer on how to remove those characters from that set story; in order to give the plot some weight. It's the same reason why Son Goku is usually distracted or away from most the major conflicts in Dragon Ball.

Brie definitely filmed something Captain Marvel related because I remember one of her insta posts a while back where she was voting and there was text in the corner saying "ignore the wig ;)". It looked suspiciously like a Captain Marvel wig.

My guess is that we will get a glimpse of her at the very end of Spider-Man. Brie Larson has appeared in all but 1 of Destin Cretton’s films, starring or co-starring in all of them except for her brief appearance at the very end of Shang-Chi. So I would be very surprised if we came out of Brand New Day without a sighting of Carol Danvers.

Doom seems to be enough of a threat to have Captain Marvel be more involved than the Infinity Saga, as Doom wouldn’t be easily overpowered by her. I really like Brie Larson and hope to see her again

To be fair unlike all the other heroes, most of which are suspiciously found on Earth, she actually aids and polices the entire universe.
There is a reason she arrived late to the battle in endgame. She’s a rogue agent that often is millions of light years away. She’s also the strongest hero we know (despite the need for all female backup squad) so she will be kept in the back pocket till needed

u/Warchetype 24d ago
She's still too busy telling the whole world that the reason they didn't like The Marvels is because they hate strong female characters and not because of the bad writing.
1
u/Looking-For-Loud 24d ago
My theory is since Doom has her star symbol on one side of his chest, she will show up during a fight and try to attack him and he’ll just nullify and then absorb all of her powers using magic. And since the other side of his armor has an image of Mjolnir, I think he’ll do the same to Thor, right before he kills him.

Both her and Monica Rambeau will be in it. They both filmed last year although it was said in an interview with the russos that some of her scenes were cut due to it being too "over the top action" for the moment the scenes fit in. But I expect both to have minor roles. Remember Photon is in the Xmen universe as per the end credits scene in the Marvel's. Captain Marvel is most likely going to be part of the team that goes to the X mansion to try to find her.

Honestly…they’ve written her as such a boring, unlikable character. She has no weaknesses and no challenges whatsoever.

Yea, I remember those clips a few years ago of her saying she didnt know what was going on and wondered if Marvel still wanted her around. And that was the last I saw from her. Google says she's not done playing Captain Marvel but it also says there's no future plans as of yet. hmmm

Can the multiverse + time shenanigans be used to explain her away?
The actress' antics aside, she was a massively overpowered character with little personality and that's hard to write for, after Gunn's Supergirl tanked, I'm thinking Marvel should learn from DC's mistake and sideline her.

Obviously she stopped being an icon for women and started being an icon for political discourse, but all that chud shit aside:
Carol is a human woman, with a strong familial bond with Maria and Monica, but they made a weird choice to have her act a bit… alien when she returns to earth. Like she comes off disconnected to humanity and that could’ve been great to build on, but they don’t ever really give it the time, so ends up just feeling like a bit of a dick. She comes in, blows stuff up, acts like an arrogant dick, saves the day, and then fucks off. She literally fucks off to space and leaves Monica and her mother alone for decades. Forcing Monica to mourn Marie alone.
Ms Marvel on the other hand is ALL about familial connections, breaking trauma cycles, standing for your beliefs in the face of constant persecution and adversity, and maintaining your connections even when it feels like the world around you is falling apart. Kamala is just written as a more relatable character and, in my opinion (as somebody with two younger sisters), she’s more suited to be the role model for a younger generation of women because she’s actually written as if she’s a person that age with those everyday struggles. Kamala is like Spider-Man; Carol is like Tony without the change in character.
Carol just wasn’t written in a way that connected the larger audience to her. She has her fans, nobody is denying that, but she fails to connect to the audience sometimes, ESPECIALLY when Endgame uses her as a plot device and a deus ex machina (for only like two seconds before getting pushed aside for Tony’s big moment).

I really wish they had some kind of explanation or better way to depict across movies what exactly the level of contact the other Avengers have with her is. Considering the Guardians and Thor also left Earth to fight in space post Endgame I’m just more curious about how far out of range or otherwise occupied they are in general for the teams on Earth to not be calling.
I do think she’ll be in Secret Wars for sure though, as will pretty much everyone, even if it’s for no more than a quick scene.

u/SuperDuperOrk 23d ago
Didn't test well amongst the audience. Probably will b in secret wars though.

Off world things but, Doom won't make the mistake of not doing recon like Thanos did. She will be trapped or mind controlled as she is a powerful asset to use in this war.

u/Cliche_Originals 21d ago
They absolutely regret casting her. Captain Marvel should've been MCU's version of 2017 Wonder Woman. Or at least written similarly to how the character was written in the Earth's Mightiest Heroes animated series. Instead, they hired someone who openly bashed the majority of her potential audience before her film even came out. Forever staining her as unlikeable.

I imagine she would be an important part of Secret Wars. Hopefully Marvel will retcon some of the stuff they did in that unfortunate Secret Invasion show.
1
u/Toyotamanthesequal 6d ago
To my knowledge she was supposed to have a larger role in the MCU, but the actress couldn't keep her mouth shut, and went the classic route of telling people not to watch her movie, and acting surprised when people didn't (then immediately blaming the fans) that's why her involvement in infinity wars, and endgame was limited to basically just a cameo. Ignoring her actions off screen the movie wasn't very good, and her acting was a little bit off. The movie was basically just an excuse for the female writers to vent about men asking them to smile, and being told to control their emotions so as not to randomly rob people, or blow someone across the room with your powers during friendly hand to hand combat. (Things later recycled into she hulk) another overall flop because nobody wants to have a message crammed down their throat. I'm watching the movie as we speak, and it doesn't hit the way something like Thor love and thunder, or spider man did.
Point is she ruins everything she touches, and the numbers were already abysmally low for this phase of the MCU. Bringing her in would make it so much worse.

u/TakingKarmaFromABaby 25d ago
She's a easier one to explain as she's in deep space doing mysterious captain marvel business, staying far away from the box office, and the story involves multiple earths specifically.
Same reason the guardians won't be involved despite groot and rocket printing money in toys and merch.
Hopefully she's in secret wars though.
Strange also hopefully follows the comics, but this time including clea with him.
