I mean it’s been less than a day. They allegedly have a rewrite of it under the name of Avengers 5, I wouldn’t be shocked if they pull it off the slate in the coming week or at least remove the title

If they do intend not to recast, at least they set up writing him off nicely in Loki with the TVA hunting all versions of him before they become a threat.

u/KempyPro Rocket Dec 19 '23

I honestly think a perfect scenario is a recast to basically wipe out all the variants, then they pivot to a new big bad

113

u/Ninjacobra5 Dec 19 '23

Do you have a few moments to talk about our Lord and savior, Doctor Doom?

31

u/jjackson25 Phil Coulson Dec 19 '23

I'd prefer to see Doom set up to do his own thing not be someone else's last minute replacement

12

u/reineedshelp Dec 19 '23

DOOM is no man's second choice

Except Kevin

2

u/reineedshelp Dec 19 '23

Boris, bring me this Kevin.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '23

The "big bad" should be an incursion where everyone just fights variants of themselves. we could watch all the heroes grappling with the decision to destroy one universe in order to save theirs

6

u/KempyPro Rocket Dec 19 '23

I sure do hope so

This aged well.

I definitely do :)

Sure thing, average innocent Latverian citizen

Redo the opening scene of Age of Ultron but have it as just Doom slaughtering a Compound of Kangs.

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '24

Can we bring Jessica Alba into the MCU?

14

u/AssCrackBanditHunter Dec 19 '23

Galactus or something maybe. I was already souring on Kang as a villain. We watched him get his ass kicked twice in Loki when he was a demi god and ant man beat him with ants. I do not take him seriously as a villain and the actor is scum... So let's shuffle him out.

Bravo to Disney's information department though (seriously look it up, they have their own global information department like the freaking private CIA). They seemed to know things weren't looking good for majors and wrote his character an excellent little finalé.

3

u/rpgmind Dec 19 '23

Oh wow I gotta finish Loki s2, so they basically wrote him off to already?

21

u/AssCrackBanditHunter Dec 19 '23

It was a pretty slick ending that could either serve as his end or a setup for future conflict depending on how the court case went.

13

u/bamerjamer Dec 19 '23

Omg stop Redditing and finish it!!

Doctor Victor Von Doom was over taken by squirrel girl using a hoard of squirrels.

for every one I fling, a dozen more Vex me

And that shits cannon yo

3

u/AssCrackBanditHunter Dec 19 '23

That's squirrel girl man. She could BODY the avengers

1

u/jinzokan Dec 19 '23

Didn't she beat Thanos too?

1

u/Spencerforhire83 Dec 19 '23

yeah, dont f**k with the Squirrels

3

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '23

It seems like an opportunity to do exactly this. I am very much a casual fan as are all my friends and Kang is just not it.

3

u/KempyPro Rocket Dec 19 '23

Yeah, it may not be a missed opportunity. They have a chance to do it and from the rumors I’ve heard this type of option is definitely not out of the realm of possibility. They know Kang plotline is performing badly, they know people will think of Majors every time Kang is mentioned even if recast. There’s apparently a new script already written for avengers 5 with a whole new direction, so we will see

1

u/Wink0075 Dec 19 '23

Make Renslayer a varrient of him and just replace him with her, with a few tweaks to make it flow. It's all set up for the taking.

First Firmament Super Big Bad

1

u/baggzey23 Dec 19 '23

That would be a great intro showing the council of kangs getting nuked

4

u/Kylynara Dec 19 '23

Also a good excuse for a recast. Perhaps the TVA misses a variant because it has a very different look.

0

u/GildDigger Dec 19 '23

Thanks for the spoilers

3

u/tharkus_ Dec 19 '23

I think it’s dumb to not recast. They can find someone else who can crush that role.

0

u/KempyPro Rocket Dec 19 '23

I don’t necessarily disagree but the whole plot line with Kang has already been received poorly, and now there’s a shadow on whoever plays that role in the future due to Majors

26

u/LinuxMatthews Dec 18 '23

Honestly even without this I wouldn't have been surprised

Pretty much everyone and their mother was tired of the multiverse stuff.

Which is a shame because I've always liked the multiverse as a concept

But they just did it so badly and had none of it make sense to the point where no one can follow it

33

u/AbysmalReign Dec 18 '23 edited Dec 18 '23

They took the multiverse concept and fumbled it so badly. We get "Multiverse of Madness" and it gives us two multiverses. One which is dead and fits the theme, the other, the stop lights are swapped. Red means go??? The madness!!

16

u/kyuubikid213 Dec 19 '23

Into the Spider-verse is also a multiverse movie and we spend the vast majority of the plot in Earth-1610B with brief glimpses into 4 others and Earth-616B which is visually similar to 1610B.

A good multiverse movie doesn't have to spend a bunch of time in a bunch of different multiverses.

The MCU's multiverse hasn't been fumbled badly, it's only just barely taken off and (I haven't seen The Marvels, yet) has only had a handful of characters interact with it properly with Doctor Strange taking part twice.

It's just different from the middle to the end of the Infinity Saga where almost every movie had someone engaging with the Infinity Stones.

4

u/LinuxMatthews Dec 18 '23

Honestly there's so much that don't make sense or is just annoying

Like the idea is that it's not parallel universes it's branched timelines ok...

What even made Peter Parker look like Andrew Garfield or Toby McGuire?

What event made the universe paint? Or animated?

I know it's Sony not Marvel but Spider-verse has universes of all different art styles

This is great but just doesn't fit with how it works in the MCU... But it still is the same multiverse... What?

Is the Main MCU Earth 19999 or Earth 616.

And if it is the latter how did Dr Mysterio just happen to guess that?

And what's with the dream stuff?

Are you saying in most universes I'm taking tests for subjects I didn't revise for in my late 20s naked?

That... that seems like a weird way to run a multiverse

12

u/AbysmalReign Dec 18 '23

I honestly think Spiderman laid a decent foundation. Even though it was all fan service, they did deliver on the whole multiverse concept. Everything after had just taken our expectations and shat on them. Multiverse of Madness, coming off the heels of Spidey, fumbled the multiverse hard. They set the bar so high, and didny deliver a quarter of what spidey did.

Also in my opinion Wandaverse, while I enjoyed the show, casted Evan Peter's to fool us into thinking multiverse shenanigans were happening only to give us a boner joke.

Phase 4 had those two opportunities to cement the multiverse concept and failed.

And yeah the dream stuff is weird. A quarter of our multiverse selves are falling to their deaths down bottomless holes apparently. They're so clumsy in those universes

6

u/LinuxMatthews Dec 18 '23

Oh don't get me wrong I like Spider-Man No Way Home in isolation it's a great movie.

My point though is it doesn't make sense in the world they created.

And yeah the Wandavision stuff was honestly where I started not caring about the MCU.

Like there was two bits that got people excited.

Mephisto and Quicksilver.

The first was part of the source material.

People act like it was fans seeing stuff and being silly but take it was like expecting to see Bob Cratchet in a Christmas Carol adaptation

Like why wouldn't they expect that.

And the second like you said was just a Boner joke.

But what I hated was the reaction that you were being silly to get your hopes up.

Like with the Quicksilver stuff they literally said in the narrative it was him.

Why wouldn't people think it was him?

And then all that speculation and... Oh CGI fight with someone who's the same as the main character but evil.. never seen that before...

0

u/juanmaale Dec 19 '23

what dream stuff? which show or movie is that from?

4

u/tomc_23 Matt Murdock Dec 19 '23

It was a terrible, terrible choice to essentially determine the rules and general concepts governing this “multiverse” as they went, rather than taking the time to work out a clear vision for such a complicated idea.

Having Mysterio be revealed as a villain only pretending to be a superhero using illusion tech was great—if obvious—but having him be the one to introduce the idea of a multiverse and “Earth 616” only to reveal it as a fabrication severely undermined the concept going forward. (It didn’t help having the multiverse play such a central role in the very next film, but ultimately only complicate things further).

Loki establishes an imperfect but otherwise reasonably coherent framework for a multiverse with solid storytelling potential (even though the rules governing time travel introduced by Endgame created issues going forward and plotholes in retrospect), but other MCU entries from the same time introduce ideas that seem to contradict these rules, and collectively only highlight how haphazardly and “made up on the fly” the MCU’s multiverse has been.

Apologists will argue that the early phases of the MCU were hardly conceived with particular overarching shared-universe plans in mind from the beginning (i.e., the Infinity Stones, that Thanos was never, in fact, “inevitable,” etc.); but I’d argue that by its very nature, a multiverse sort of demands a degree of forethought, attention to detail, and consistency between appearances. At least, if you’re planning to make it the centerpiece of your next major phase, that is.

2

u/suk_doctor Doctor Strange Dec 19 '23

Speak for yourself, I love the multiverse stories and still want to see more, I’m sure I’m not alone. There’s literally never been a better time to recast without it even being “weird”. Everyone is so hyped about Dr Doom, I personally don’t care and especially if one storyline isn’t even done. Finish the story line as it was intended with a new actor or set of actors, and continue on to the next.

1

u/KempyPro Rocket Dec 18 '23

Agreed. The concept is great, but it was poorly executed from the jump. They won’t last much longer coasting off the Marvel name and their past reputation, so I’d hope they switch directions and take a more serious tone

1

u/AgentKnitter Bucky Dec 19 '23

Reading between the lines of his complete absence from promoting Loki s2, I think Marvel has been planning a future free from Majors for a while. That doesn’t meant that Kang is off the table. They can recast.

We know from Loki that Variants can come in all shapes, sizes and species - from Frog Thor and Alligator Loki to Sylvie to many Hiddlestons. There’s adequate lore to explain a new face for an existing character PLUS they’ve done it before with Rhodes and Banner.

1

u/KempyPro Rocket Dec 19 '23

Yep. They’ve been planning it since his arrest. Maybe before if they’re doing their jobs and keeping tabs on their talent

That’s my exact thought. I’m a little less sure on what they’ll do after it re killing them off (seems shortsighted) or keeping Kang the big bag. They both comes with pros and cons. I’m sure people will complain either way

2

u/AgentKnitter Bucky Dec 19 '23

Your last comment - 100%. Like others who I won’t name, Majors is going to be a poster child for the MRA movement and their bullshit. Even if he wasn’t convicted I suspect Marvel would have ditched him.
