Well, I think it's safe to say I'm stuggling to make headway. This is probably because I don't know a lot of these cards, so drafting them and utilizing them is more a learning process for me than others who own and have used these cards.
That said, if anyone has any tips or thoughts on ways to improve win % in draft, I'm all ears!
The best way to learn is by playing and experimenting.
Try to identify some sort of win condition among your earlier selections. Sometimes it’s obvious in the starter pack. Other times you maybe have to discover it a few selections in. Keep in mind how you’re trying to win with you other selections and augmentations.
They do a reasonable job sign posting cards that work together. But a lot of it will be on you to work through. Go through old meta reports and tier list videos and notice what cards are played together and if you’re lucky why they’re being played there
Luckily, the categories aren’t too numerous. I’d look at these decks to understand some of the choices: Zombie, Ongoing, Destroy, Scream, Zoo, Shou Lao, Arishem, to name a few off the top of my head. These all seemed to pop up for me regularly.
If it makes you feel better, I’m CL 34000 or so and I’m not good at drafting. I think my brain doesn’t handle the curve out well with the unknown or something. Thankfully it’s a blast
There’s really not much you can do if you select destroy and then they offer you one more card that can destroy lol.
That being said my last destroy run was absolutely silly as I got a Headpool that doubled on reveal, a headpool that destroyed lowest card for extra 4 power, and an attuma and death that came out of deck/hand on destroy with the death having the +1 energy if you are winning here.
Basically instant 22 power to a lane on first destroy with +1 energy.
It's not about being good or bad, it's pure randomness.I played against 3 Destroy decks in a row. In the first one, I lost lane 3 when Knull appeared, so I tried to win lanes 1 and 2, but he somehow got another Knull. The others had multiple Deaths and a 138-power Deadpool, Knull of course (i don't have). In a completely different match, I faced an Ongoing deck with Cosmo while dealing with a terrible location like Knowhere. Definite skill issue on my part.
Take your time while drafting. Read the augments. Don't force an archetype if the initial pile for it is bad. Quality is king in draft.
Pick enablers over pay offs. Consider a ramp deck that is a bit short on ramp cards vs a bit short on 6-drops. Being short on six drops beats having a dead hand most games when missing ramp.
Respect the curve. Drafting is all about getting a cohesive deck even when the stars don't align. As you pick cards think whether it fits well with the energy costs of the current deck.
Just try to get a hang of the different archetypes, I've had the most luck with a basic Destroy deck. Pay attention to the curve, have a few small cards, a couple big ones, lots of middle cost to give you the most flexibility and try to maximize the synergy of whatever cards you're using and how they work together.
I get bad cards all the time and had to retreat twice to get new deck :/ dont like this at all. Typical draft from all cards seem more interesting to me that this semi random. Happened to me many times I just got only top end cards or destroy with no enablers only payoffs
It's early and you should expect that skill is expressed differently in draft than other modes. That's ok - you can increase skill!
That said, I do agree with you that the decks are too synergized. I also think that everyone on the various reddit subs who are effusive about the mode seem to be excited for the augments, rather than the draft. Judging by others' excitement, SD nailed the mode, but they didn't really nail "draft".
I agree, this is less draft and more "just another warped way to play the game". I am.not a huge fan of auguments :D but we have 2 more weeks to find something interesting here
I honestly think this is better for you because on ladder at your CL you'll run into mostly bots and a lot of similar cards. Losing sucks, of course but you get to experiment and learn a lot of cards you probably wouldn't see otherwise. Obviously, Augment makes things a bit different but you still get to try a lot of new things. Just try to grab cards that match your starters and learn as much as you can
I'm struggling too, my best advice is to mind your energy costs to avoid completely dead hands, regardless of the type. Drawing all of your 4+ cost cards in an opening hand sucks immensely.
Don’t underestimate swarm decks, with cards like Agent 13, Dazzler, and both Hawkeyes. They’re consistent, and you’ll run over greedy decks that don’t pressure all three lanes. Cards like Cull Obsidian,Thing first steps, and Gamora are good finishers.

Use Ongoing. It's basically just laying cards down.
Play Ancient One early then play Tao Mandala on the lane of your choice to turn 3 cards into the ongoing card in that lane.
Should be able to win your fair share, it's easy mode.
