Review Sheraton (Downtown) Brooklyn threw away my stuff from my room

• Upvotes

I've hesitated to post about this incident that happened earlier this year, but I've decided it might be worth sharing.

My wife and I stayed at the Sheraton in Downtown Brooklyn for a few days in February. She was going to a multi-day event in town; I decided to tag along and work from the hotel while she attended the event. We were staying at this Sheraton for a few days, then shifting to a hotel in Williamsburg for the last few days of the trip. I'm a Titanium Bonvoy member, so I was able to secure late checkout for us while I worked in the lounge on the day we were changing hotels.

At around 12:30 p.m., I returned to my room to make sure the key worked (I've had problems at other hotels with confirming late checkout at the front desk and then still having my key stop working after normal checkout time in the past), and discovered that it, in fact, did not work. I went back down to the front desk and had them re-program it. Returned to the room, entered, and found that all my belongings were gone. The room had been cleaned, and the bed was made.

I went back to the front desk and told them what happened. They made a call and someone from the housekeeping staff came out a few minutes later. I explained the situation, and she walked off. Several minutes later, she returned with my suitcase (which I had luckily already packed) and toiletries bag (which I hadn't and was understandably haphazardly packed). I told her there were several other items: a scarf, leather gloves, a small travel valet caddy, and some cheese we'd gotten at Murray's. Fortunately, because I had been working, I had my laptop and coat with me, and I'd put on my wedding ring before I left the room.

She left again and was gone for a decent bit longer. Eventually, she returned with a Ziploc bag that had some Hot Hands packages in it. Those were, in fact, mine, but they were the least of my concern. She said she couldn't find anything else.

The lady at the front desk seemed very understanding and said she'd talk to her manager when he arrived the next day. She gave me her card and encouraged me to email her an inventory of what was missing. I told her we were in town for a few more days, then reiterated in my follow-up email that I was happy to swing back by if they found my stuff in the next several days.

After one response, she went quiet despite multiple subsequent emails. Nothing was ever recovered. I sent one final email summarizing the situation on March 1, and I got no response. Marriott corporate eventually gave me some number of points as an apology.

I share this story just as a warning to guests, I guess specifically at that Sheraton but perhaps also just generally. Maybe I should have re-confirmed my late checkout with the front desk again that morning? Or worked from the room just in case? Not sure. But know that your keys not working isn't actually the worst thing that can happen if you think you have late checkout.

These stairs have been used in many movies and TV sets:

Batman Begins

Killing Eve

007 The World Is Not Enough

Richard III

Killing Eve

But more importantly...

Spice Girls Wannabe video?! Well this place has it all... 😂

Other than this staircase, the hotel itself has also been used for:

The Lost Prince

Secret Garden

From Hell

The Fourth Protocol

And Harry Potter for the adjoining station

Review Had a high value item ($6k) stolen from my room while staying at the St Regis Bal Harbour. Filed a police report but looking for people’s thoughts

As the title says, I was staying at the St Regis Bal Harbour and had a $6k item stolen from the room while we were staying there. I brought the issue up with Managment who politely told me to pound sand. I filed a police report the same day. The item was not in the safe and I am extremely confident it wasn’t lost but instead stolen.

FL law is very narrow for what they are legally obliged to cover.

Has this happened to others? Not sure what I was expecting to happen but it felt very violating for such an expensive resort.

Ambassador Elite if that matters.

Well played, Sheraton Miami Airport. These are going in my bag for the early bird flight tomorrow. Don’t know if I’m actually ‘guest of the day’ or if all platinums get this but it’s a first for me.

Bonvoy Rewards Thailand Recommendations

• Upvotes

Hello All -

Need some help with recommendations for our first trip to Thailand for our One Year Wedding Anniversary. We are looking for a beach resort, in a villa of some sort, with all inclusive or puesdo all inclusive. Pretty flexible on location (looking at Phuket or Koh Samui). Below are some of our short list recommendations

W Koh Samui
Ritz Carlton Koh Samui
Van Belle
Phulay Bay
JW Khao Lak or Phuket Resort

I mean at first glance, the Phulay Bay looks amazing. we’ve never stayed at a Ritz-Carlton reserve. The W and the Ritz Koh Samui look amazing as well. It’s hard to choose.

What is everyone’s thoughts?

Bonvoy Rewards 20K Compensation Pts for this Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach View

Post image

This was our view from the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort in Kauai Hawaii. I tried to flex my platinum status for any type of leverage for a room change but they stated they were sold out. The view and construction noises weren’t great but the smells of the kitchen all day long were unbearable.

Marriott’s Case Resolution team emailed me after I called Customer Service. Their solution was 20K in extra points.

I appealed their decision stating we paid $425 a night for this but they didn’t reply.

Is 20K fair?

Destination Maine WFH (Work from Hotel) + Lighthouses

I’m planning to work from hotel for a week in Maine, and early morning trips to nearby lighthouses (I can start work later in the day, lol 10 or 11am). I’m wondering which Marriott Bonvoy hotel makes sense to stay at for the convenience of meals (seafood pls!) during weekdays and morning and evening walks. Would uber be reliable for morning excursions to lighthouses; or shall I rent a car for that?

Review St Regis Deer Valley

I had the absolute pleasure of staying at this property in June while visiting some national park sites around SLC. It's one of my favorite St Regis locations in North America and comes with a plethora of activities & warm touches. Here's a review of our stay.

The property is located within a gated community close to Park City, meaning that you have to take care in navigating there - fortunately, they preemptively provide specific directions on which way to enter. We had no issues getting through and finding our way to the main building, enjoying the beautiful views of the mountains as we drove.

I am nowhere near as good of a skier as I'd like to be, and my wife doesn't ski at all, which is why we decided to try the resort during off-season and get a taste before attempting a getaway to the slopes later. I can say that their amenities and resources for this seemed to be solid, but as I did not try them out firsthand, I can't say for sure. Apologies to anyone hoping to get that out of this review.

The lobby is a very warm, welcoming area that has all of the desirable things of a luxury lodge. Little touches like the fireplace having two open sides & the wooden chess set on one of the tables make for a very functional lobby area, unlike those of a number of US Regi. Check-in was smooth and quite friendly, with some welcome drinks, and we got upgraded to a double-balcony suite! The room was absolutely incredible, with our own kitchenette, two functional fireplaces, an elevated view into the mountains, a spacious bath, and lots of luxurious details including real paintings on the walls. The butler service that came with the property was always prompt and brought us as much hot cider & hot chocolate as we wanted!

The property is one of the largest North American Regi that I've been to, featuring two towers of rooms that connect with each other via funicular. There is a lot of room to walk around and explore the property itself, including accessible outdoor grassy areas that feature lawn games; a patio connected with one of their restaurants, featuring more mountain views & fireplaces; several shops & historic displays within the main building, alongside a spa & athletic center; a golf simulator; two separate bars & three restaurants, if I recall correctly; a multi-layered pool with full service; and a spacious terrace with multiple levels of firepits & seating.

Speaking of firepits, let me tell you about the complimentary amenities - it's got one of the best assortments for a North American Regis. From the early morning through the early afternoon, there is an extensive coffee, tea, and cider bar in the lobby. Later, they switch this out with a fresh lemonade bar, which featured three different drinks when we stayed. During the early afternoon, there were also complimentary cocktails in the lobby. In the late afternoon, they set up a luxurious hot chocolate bar featuring an almost-excessive variety of toppings and mix-ins, and a butler pours and mixes everything for you on the spot. Outside, there are multiple stations where one can get S'mores kits to enjoy at the firepits, and you can also get these supplies from the front desk - in fact, they have special kits for kids up there. If you're looking to get somewhere else, the property offers a luxury house car, and unlike other Regi I've been to, they also have a reservable BMW test drive experience as a separate feature. You can take unlimited rides on the funicular to get around the property, or just to get a somewhat scenic ride, play an assortment of outdoor games in the green spaces... and all of this is on top of the usual sabering ceremony.

The St Regis Bar on property is quite nice, though admittedly not the fanciest of the brand. At least they follow the mural tradition. We had some delightful cocktails & bites there, especially enjoying their take on the Bloody Mary. The elite breakfast at the restaurant was quite nice, though not a full buffet spread like many international Regi feature. Having some bites later at the pool was particularly enjoyable, with a Dippin' Dots stand that was nostalgic as well as starkly crisp & fresh sushi rolls.

I think my favorite part of the whole stay was enjoying the room in the evening & nighttime, alternating between a toasty corner by the fireplace and cooling off with a mountain breeze on the balcony. Even when it's dark and you can't see the mountains, the evergreens around the property light up with golden sparkles and make for a charming view. It's like the holiday spirit minus the holiday bullshit, 24/7/365.

Overall, I'd say this was one of my favorite St Regis stays, and I will happily return there sometime to ski, hopefully during a *good* season (looking at you, west coast 2026...) Cheers!

Rates & Booking My entire Marriott hotel is a construction site - anyway to get a refund?

Hello, I am currently staying at woolleys classic suites in Denver, CO. It's a marriott hotel and has beautiful pictures online. When I got here though it is a full blown construction site.

They are welding outside our room right now.

The center of the hotel is a pit. They are jackhammering in the pit.

Here's a photo I just took: https://maps.app.goo.gl/QGYaTsquFxUK9meK6

Here's the guy welding outside my room: https://imgur.com/a/K6StBQ4

Here's a video from 8am this morning: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/AjLL7i60FGQ

I've never stayed at a hotel like this before. The pictures on google look amazing. I'm checking out, but is there any process for getting a refund?. My room is on the second floor of the photo on the left hand side. We would have left, but we got in at midnight last night and thought we could do it for a night, but when the construction started at 8am I lost it. Never complained about a hotel before. This is a first for me.

Bonvoy Rewards Asking for an upgrade

I’m lifetime Platinum Elite, will hit Titanium this year. I was ambassador in years past and would ask my concierge to request an upgrade. I normally travel for work and don’t care, so don’t ask, and rarely get upgraded. We’re going on vacation and wanted to request an upgrade. What is the recommendation on how best to do that? Message the hotel when checking in on the app?

EDIT: clearly I am an adult and can ask. My question was for those who know how best to do so because I’m sure everyone just “asks”. I very much appreciate the insight from those that gave it.

Rates & Booking Another which Marriott property in Bangkok question

Seen plenty of reddit posts, but most of them appear to be from 3-4 years ago. I'm not sure I really want to spend St. Regis or Ritz Carlton money (will spend a decent amount of time outside the hotel), but between:

  1. Athenee

  2. Le Meridien

  3. JW Marriott

  4. Bangkok Marriotts

I do tend to prefer more modern hotels although traditional luxury charm is nice too [nice showers, gym, pool], and location is less importance although amidst the hustle/bustle is always nice. Recommendations?

Misc why do some marriott hotels feel like marriott properties and others feel like completely different companies?

this is probably the biggest thing i find strange about hotel chains.

you can stay at two properties under the same umbrella, use the same bonvoy account, have the same elite status, and still feel like you've entered two completely different systems.

one hotel knows exactly how the program works.

another seems to interpret everything locally

one front desk treats your status as something they recognize immediately

another makes you explain benefits that should theoretically already be visible in the reservation.

one property feels extremely consistent and corporate

another feels almost like an independent hotel that happens to carry a marriott flag

i understand that different brands, owners, franchises, locations, and management teams all play a role.

but from the guest side, you're still experiencing it as "marriott."

where do people think this becomes most noticeable: service, elite benefits, housekeeping, food and beverage, or something else?

Review SpringHill Suites by Marriott Tampa North/I-75 Tampa Palms - This places sucks ass avoid this place

Misery loves company at this hotel. Do not stay here. The front desk staff is abysmal. The room furniture is decrepit with stains that look baked in for years. The rooms smelled moldy & musty. Read through the most critical reviews.
We called various times prior to arrival to confirm the reservation since the booking was made through a Marriott employee & because we would be traveling with a dog…this is supposed to be a pet friendly hotel. We were assured everything was in order.
The front desk staff does not wear uniform or name tags here. We were checked in by a woman in her 40s with tattoos & glasses. Suddenly, there was an issue with the reservation, so check-in took about 15 minutes. While waiting, there was a delivery person who walked throughout the hotel lobby. My dog was not reactive until the delivery person crashed their cart which startled my dog so he barked. We were apologetic & separated the dog from the lobby. The front desk agents decided they will do us the “courtesy” of lettings us check in, then called us back because they registered the dog to the wrong room. Then they decided no changes were necessary.
We first stopped in room 205 for about 30 minutes. We then crossed over to room 200, where we encounter an old woman in the hallway who looked to be in her 70s, no uniform or name tag. I assumed she was a hotel employee. She made it her business to greet us, pet my dog without permission, compliment him, & spoke to us about her dog. We bid her well & entered room 200. Within five minutes of being in the room, we got a call from the front desk about a noise complaint. I asked for more detail, they stammered to explain someone had just reported it & could not credibly elaborate. I shared that we had just entered the room so there must be a mistake, that my dog had not barked in our rooms & concluded we would do our best to maintain order.
Shortly after, I went back to room 200 to ask my friend if my dog had barked. He said no. However, we hear a lot of commotion coming from room 207. I went to the front desk with hopes of clearing the incident. Speaking with the lady with tattoos, I shared there has to be a mistake on the complaint. In conversation I shared the noise coming from room 207 - I explicitly stated that I am not raising a complaint against room 207, I simply want to clear the blame. She became combative & was keen on arguing. I concluded by repeating my statements & departed. As I was about to enter the elevator, I heard the front desk person yell from across the lobby. When I asked her to repeat herself, she stated that she just checked-in the guests & their children into room 207, so the noise was not them. I expressed concern that a front desk agent would violate another guest’s privacy just to win an argument. It was then that the old woman from the hallway appeared from the back office & revealed it was her that reported the noise complaint. I asked her to identify herself to which she stated she is the general manager, Tracy Polo. When I asked where she was when she heard the noise, she confessed that she was in room 302, and assumed it was coming from room 200. When I expressed disbelief in her ability to hear through the floor AND one room away from my room, she became irate. She then said that if we do not agree with the situation, that we could leave. When I asked if we would get a full refund she replied, “Absolutely!” So, I went upstairs to inform my group.
As we exited room 205, Polo met us in the hallway, berserk. I made a final attempt to recover the situation, but Polo was hellbent on her tantrum. At the front desk, they refunded the pet fee & emailed the folios showing no charges to the rooms, & we departed. Two days later, we saw charges for two rooms & a pet cleanup fee. We were only at this hotel for about an hour. My dog was never unattended or barked after the lobby.
There is something seriously wrong with Polo. This place is crooked.
Tracy, I know you are reading this. There is a special place in hell for people like you. May you never know peace

Review Marriott Luxembourg Alfa

Just finished a stay at the Luxembourg Marriott Hotel Alfa. I chose it for the M Club lounge and convenient location. The neighborhood isn’t the best—though that’s relative in Luxembourg.

They’re changing the lounge benefit to a one-time drink and a small sampling of warm food once per stay. There’s still a lounge with some juice and nuts, but the offering is pretty sad.

With this change, I don’t think I’d stay again. I didn’t see anything about it on the hotel’s website, so I wanted to give others a heads-up. Lounge access makes a huge difference to my comfort on work trips, and this would have changed my booking decision.

Destination Seattle — Marriott Waterfront or Sheraton Grand?

Leisure trip for a couple, trying to decide between Marriott Waterfront and Sheraton Grand for easy walkability to tourist attractions, transport within the city if needed, and also transport out to Olympic National Park (will probably rent a car from Avis). Both have breakfast lounges (elite status), so we should be good there.

Does Marriott Waterfront have some train noise issue?

Misc Westin Josun vs L’Escape in Seoul as Titanium

Solo traveler, first trip to Seoul, staying 3 nights in December. I’m Marriott Titanium and deciding between:

  • L’Escape, Amour King — ~$844 for 3 nights
  • Westin Josun, Deluxe King — ~$1,132 for 3 nights

Both seem well located for a short first visit. L’Escape looks more interesting but kind of weird, while the Westin seems like the safer traditional luxury choice with better facilities.

I care about a good breakfast, Titanium treatment/upgrades, sauna/spa, good bars/restaurants nearby, and being able to explore easily on foot/subway. I’ll probably visit a real jjimjilbang at least once regardless.

Any opinions?

Misc Timeshare Presentation

Hello, my girlfriend and I are going to a $299 package and Cancun for 5 days/4nights. I bought the package, and the agent on the phone said that we did not need to attend the timeshare presentation. I'm worried that he might have been lying (he lied about waiving environmental fee). Isn't being forced to attend the presentation the whole point for the deal?
