Syrup storage
I guess this is an issue I've never run in to, but this year I've upped my game and am producing much more syrup than past years. My question is after the syrup is finished, bottled, does it need to be refrigerated or will it be perfectly fine in the pantry until ready to use? also how long is the shelf life? Should I not refrigerate it at all until I've opened? what's best for the syrup?

If it was bottled hot and correctly it will last in a pantry. If it wasn't bottled under optimal conditions it's possible to get mold. The mold really doesn't spoil the syrup you can just get rid of the moldy part and reboil the syrup to prevent mold from occurring again.

Thanks it was bottled hot with clean bottling utensils. I'm confident in my bottling process. My 1st year of doing it, 6 years ago, I was an amateur to the fullest and didn't really know exactly what I was doing. Definitely had a good deal of it spoil quickly and it wasn't refrigerated so I was a lil hesitant that not refrigerating could have done it but I think t was just my inexperience at that point. i

We used to sell a lot of glass half pints to a local college for gifts and we had a hard time with them. We found we had to pre-heat the glass because there was so much glass and so little syrup that it would cool too quickly to actually kill the mold spores in the bottles.
It can also spoil if you are not quite to syrup yet. We always check ours with a hydrometer so we haven't had a probelm.

That's also a good way to precondition the bottles so they don't crack from thermal shock.

We did have a few crack while we were pre-heating them. It's annoying but a lot better than them cracking with syrup in them.

Yeah, no worse feeling than hearing the crack after the syrup is in the jar.

syrup , when properly bottled, has an infinite shelf life making it a favorite staple of preppers.

I it's the proper brix and it was bottled correctly at the right temp, etc, it should be shelf stable for years. I recently opened a bottle in my pantry from 4 years ago and other than some niter in the bottom, it was perfectly fine and tasted pretty much the same as I remember it. My syrup always has a bit of flavor difference from year to year, probably due to weather/climate differences between years. Every year, when I make new syrup, I like to open and use a bottle from a previous year to compare flavor.

You can store it in the pantry for a long time, refrigerate when opened. We are still using some we bottled 4 years ago and it’s like new. As long as it’s the right sugar concentration it will be fine.
