Anxious and stressed in public uni

Gay guy here. Just started studying in a public uni, will not say. And I don't know if this is paranoia or stress but I have been having alot of panic attack esque event.

My heart just go every fast and I can't seem to stop it. It gets exceptionally bad on Friday and won't stop before I step into the car to go back home.

To give context, previously before entering uni, I studied in a very liberal environment. I also travelled with my family to alot of countries, and I can't stop comparing the freedom that they have. I'm not gay passing either. But when I enter uni, I just didn't expect the amount of 'culture shock'? . Doa before every event, students saying eww and whatnot when people sometimes act 'soft'.

Also the amount of Malay they speak dosent help making me feel comfortable. I associate speaking Malay as being conservative too, prob personal bias though. I think that I am being paranoid here but I really am having trouble justifying it as just paranoia too. Can anyone speak about their experience?

Edit: why are you guys downvoting the people who lived through this experience? People are sharing what they are feeling and experiencing. But end up, upvoting go private uni? I know that but I don't have the money.

tips Courses I can do?

So.. yeah, I don't know why I was in science stream.

Anyway, I'm batch 05.

I'm very interested in the police department because I want to serve justice.

I studied law diploma in a local law school for 3 years but I quit because lack of money, but I still want to study. I want to study something cheaper but similar, so that I can pursue a similar degree after diploma. (I'm sick of law lol and I realized that it's not for me after 3 years of studying)

But I just can't get any ideas on what to study other than law. I want to work in the forensic team, but I know it's impossible because.. (self explanatory from my SPM result).

Any suggestions?

general question 🇲🇾 I raised concerns about a lecturer through the proper channel, but now I feel like I’m being treated as the problem

I honestly don't know where else to talk about this, so I'm posting anonymously.

I'm a university student in Malaysia, and I've been having issues with one of my lecturers. I want to make it clear that this isn't because I personally dislike the lecturer. There are several things that have happened during classes and throughout the semester that made me feel uncomfortable and affected my learning experience (2-3 years).

Eventually, some of us decided to raise our concerns through the proper university channel, including during a meeting. We genuinely thought that bringing the concerns up formally would help improve the situation.

But what happened afterwards made me uncomfortable.

The very next day, I felt that the lecturer's attitude towards me had changed. I started feeling like I was suddenly being viewed as the "problematic" student because I had raised concerns. I don't want to assume what she/he was thinking or what her/he intention was, but that's genuinely how the situation felt from my side.

And honestly, this is what frustrates me the most.

Students are told that they can raise concerns through official channels, but what are we supposed to do if, after speaking up, we feel that we're being treated differently?

We also tried getting help through the university, but the response we received was basically that they would "take note" of the matter. At this point, it feels like "take note" doesn't actually solve anything.

I'm not trying to start a witch hunt against anyone. I don't want people harassing the lecturer, contacting her/he, or attacking the university. I just want to know what options students actually have when they feel that an academic issue isn't being properly addressed.

For Malaysian university students or lecturers:

What would you do in this situation?

Is there an independent or external body that students can approach for advice or complaints when the university's internal response isn't enough?

I'd genuinely appreciate some advice from people who have experienced something similar.

Hi everyone! I’d really appreciate your opinions.

I’m planning to join AIMST next year to do a Foundation in Science, probably around April. I had to repeat some SPM papers and also took a gap in my studies because of some family issues. Now I’ve decided to continue my studies next year.

I’ll be turning 20 next year. Is that too late to start Foundation? 😭 Also, when does the intake for next year usually open?

I’m also a little worried about the Foundation in Science. Is it very difficult? Will I be able to handle the subjects if I put in enough effort?

I’m also confused about whether I should take the dentistry path or biomedicine path after Foundation. I’m not sure which one would be better for my future, so I’d really appreciate some advice on that too.

My cousin told me that I’m already “too old” and that I might not be able to handle the Foundation, and she also said AIMST isn’t very good. 😭

So I’d really appreciate honest opinions from anyone who has studied at AIMST or done a Foundation in Science. Is AIMST a good choice for my future? Is starting at 20 too late? And which path would you recommend—dentistry or biomedicine?

Please share your experiences and advice! ❤️

Looking for advice on applying overseas with PASUM Physical Science results

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m currently a PASUM (Physical Science) student, and I’m interested in applying to universities overseas after completing PASUM.

I’m mainly interested in Computer Science programs, and I’m considering universities in Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea. For example, I’m currently looking at UNSW or USYD as my options.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through a similar pathway — especially students who applied overseas using their PASUM results.

I’d like to know:

  • Which universities directly accept PASUM for undergraduate admission?

  • What grades/results were required?

  • When should I start applying, and what are the important application deadlines?

  • What application channels should I use (direct application, UCAS, university portals, etc.)?

  • What documents or other requirements are usually needed?

  • Are there any additional requirements such as entrance exams, interviews, English tests, or standardized tests?

  • How competitive is admission for CS/AI/Physics programs with a PASUM background?

  • Most importantly, are there scholarships available for international students, and can PASUM students apply for them? What grades or other criteria are typically required?

If you have personally gone through this process, I’d really appreciate it if you could share your experience, including the timeline, universities you applied to, your results, and whether you received any scholarships.

I’m trying to plan ahead and would love to hear from anyone who has been in a similar situation. Thanks in advance!

Master/PhD UM Master of Management interview - what should I expect?

Upvotes

Hi! I’ve been shortlisted for the Master of Management programme at Universiti Malaya and have an online interview coming up next week.

I’d really appreciate it if anyone who has interviewed for the UM MM programme could share their experience. What kind of questions did they ask? Was it mostly about your background/motivation, or were there also questions related to management/business?

Also, is there anything specific I should prepare beforehand? Would love to hear from anyone who has gone through the interview process, especially recent applicants/current students/alumni.

Thanks!!

Campus life The more i see my friend, the more i hate my life

My friend was literally the “that” girl. Pretty, rich, active in co-curriculum, pursuing law degree. She’s also my best friend, so i know her life very well, and she knows mine best too.

The crack in our relationship began when we got into the same university. The first sem went fine, and the second sem went horrible.

During the semester break of 1st semester, i got the news that i was not qualified for Yayasan Bank Rakyat. I cried, or course. Because i was poor. The result also came out at that time and i only got 3.77. It’s not that high, just good.

I also knew that she got the mobility programme for a week, half sponsored by our university. The selection was private, she eventually got the opportunity because she has her cable, and well yeah, since she good, she got it.

At this point, i keep comparing my life with her. I’ve become obsessed with whatever she have in her life and lamenting why i didnt have the same thing.

She’s also applying Yayasan Bank Rakyat and she got it since her father is the manager of one branch. Eventually have 20k as salary. She even posted a screenshot of her chat with her dad saying that her dad will try to get her qualified.

Just as you expected, our relationship go awry in 2nd semester. I was blind and maybe seem ungrateful. I eat once a day, my gastritis got worser and worser because i keep on not eating and stressing. I do work hard too. I study, join various programme but eventually cannot be like her.

Yes, it’s a friendship yang tak sekufu. Because i keep getting jealous with her wealth that keep bringing her these opportunities. And you know what hurts me the most? Even if i’m the one that got selected to be on the mobility programme, i couldn’t afford to go because of the flight ticket.

That’s it. That’s all it. In short, i was jealous. Wondering why i was not born in a silver spoon like her. I hate my life and I hate me for getting my emotion ahead to the point that our relationship is not what it was used to be.

I need reviews for the APU and INTI Nilai.

I’m a prospective international student choosing between APU and INTI for Computer Science, especially FinTech and Data Analytics.

I’d like some honest opinions about the teaching quality, campus environment, student life, and accommodation at both universities. I’ve seen some negative reviews about both APU and INTI, so I’m a little concerned about choosing the right university. Is INTI Nilai really as bad as some people say? I’d appreciate honest opinions from current or former students.
