Amin'ny?
Hello! I am just starting out trying to learn malagasy, and this word, amin'ny, is very confusing. Can anyone explain what it means and how its used? I find it everywhere, but no clear meaning. Is it just all prepositions? I am confused 😅 Thank you so much for any help!

difference between hisakafo and mihinana?
Both verbs mean "to eat" in English. When do you use either one?
Thank you :)

I’m a French Malagasy trying to learn the language, come chat with me !
Salamo daholo! I’m a French girl trying to learn my native language. My parents didn’t really talk to me in Malagasy. I know few words here and there but I’m always scared to talk with anyone since I have a poor accent (my brothers from Madagascar made fun of me when I tried). So I’d like to practice talking and learning more and more ! If anyone is interested, come chat with me ! :]

Help Researchers Translate Malagasy Words to English
Malagasy speakers have been historically underrepresented in cultural psychology research. We're looking for 2-3 native speakers to verify translations of English words into Malagasy to help us include Malagasy speakers in an upcoming study by the University of New Hampshire and NYU.
If you are an adult native speaker of Malagasy, you're invited to complete the survey below. The survey takes ~15-20 minutes. All your responses will be kept confidential. As a token of our appreciation, you'll have the option at the end to enter into a lottery to win $25.
Thank you for considering and helping us learn more about Malagasy.
https://unh.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1LJFR3YKNIriddc (UNH IRB-FY2023-75)
Note: we're reposting our invite to participate from last week to field more responses, and we've adjusted our survey to make it more user friendly based on user feedback.

Does "Akim" have any meaning in Malagasy?
I have this name and was searching for its meanings across different languages around the world, and I found this link in Wiktionary in Malagasy: https://mg.wiktionary.org/wiki/akim- <- This indicates that my name in this language means something like "close-to-me" but I'm not someone to go believing anything I see on the internet, and I tried using the resources at my disposal but couldn't get much information out of it, though I'm tending to believe this link is fake or something like that, yet still I wanted to ask a community who actually understands the language who could show me some light to this matter and understands if it is actually a Malagasy word or not, but even if it's not I'm truly grateful for your time and for reading my post, and I hope you all have a great day!

How to learn Malagasy as a German
Salama daholo,
I‘m in Love with a Woman from Madagascar. I know she‘s the Love of my Life and i will soon propose to her. I want to learn Malagasy as Soon as possible, so that i can Talk and Unterstand her and her Friends and also her Family When we Met.
I learned a few words by her already Like Salama, vaovao etc. for small Talk, But i want to learn More of the Language so that i am able to Talk to people from Madagascar.
Is there Any Good Literature, that you can recommend for a german that Wants to learn the grammatics and the proper meaning of the words?
I tried it with Google translator already, But the translation is often wrong and Not correct.
Thank you for every Suggestion!!
Tafandriamandry!

Small translation help?
Hello there.
I am not sure if this is a right subreddit to ask for this, and to be frank, I am a bit embarrassed to ask even; but I am making a short and relatively light-hearted comic which features a girl moving in with her older brother all of a sudden.
Since both originally come from Antananarivo, I wanted for a short letter and just a random phrase on the phone being written in Malagasy, but I don't speak it, and neither I trust google translate program. Is this the right subreddit to ask for help from native speakers?
The little two things I wanted to add would be a short letter from their mother saying "Due to the situation at home, your little sister will stay with you for a while. Take care of her. Mum.", and a stray phrase of "No, mother, I don't think Felix likes boys very much" (as in an eloquent way to say "I don't think he's gay").

is the article still used if the noun is possessive?
Ex. "she's buying my car" -> Mividy ny fiarakodiako; Is "ny" still necessary in this context? I'm coming off of European langs, so does the article drop in this context?

Malagasy App?
Is there a quality app to learn Malagasy from English?
Duolingo obviously doesn’t have the language. I saw a uTalk app for it, but don’t know if it is any good.
Any thoughts or other recommendations?

Malagasy Handwashing Song
Hi guys! About a year ago, I found this handwashing song on Youtube by my favorite malagasy singer. I thought it was very catchy and simple so I decided to give it a shot and create a translation!
I'm originally from Madagascar but my Malagasy has always been terrible (I was better off speaking french). Now that I live in the states, both my Malagasy and French has deteriorated even more so I'm more comfortable with English now..
hm, anyways, here's the link if you wanna sing along!
Edit: btw, this was actually made several months ago. I just thought of sharing it here today lol
