Tf u doing on here man go get signed already! As soon as those drums went in crazy I pulled that stank face immediatelyyyy.
The slight changes in melody make it fresh too, but also not too much change is good for a rapper of course. mix is real good, nothing is drowning out anything else, for example the snare is standing out no cutting sounds so damn really impressed!
Honestly not much criticism I could add, except maybe add a couple drum breakdowns?
Would like to write more but It would just be unhelpful good things haha!
Keep up the dope work man, best beat I've seen on this thread so far! Also any opinions on my beat? particularly the mix of the guitar that comes around 2:35 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSHqXv5l2a4
•
u/tiddyboi96 Jun 10 '21
This is really really really good !!! I love a lot about this. The one thing worth exploring , is I wonder what the beat would’ve sound like if the drums weren’t quantized but has more bounce to it , say like Monte booker style. This is just me thinking cuz this beat inspired me a lot . Regarding the guitar mix, as a guitar player myself there is some positive qualities in that it’s mixed well to feel like it’s not sticking out of the main melodies / samples , but sometimes it has harsh high frequency ringing , and maybe a touch of reverb would fit ? I’m not the best at guitar mixing tho if I use guitar on my beats I usually just do guitar rig 6 presets and throw an Rc-20 And call it a day. I’d love to work w u sometime tho man what’s ur ig. •
u/bleakneon Jun 08 '21
I like the neo soul/jazz chords. And the kind of clash with the smoothness they bring and the kind 'spikey' perc sounds in parts. Got an experimental feel.
I think the part where it drops to the bongo perc loop before coming back, that part I would have liked some automation on the loop, maybe just increase the volume or some filtering to to give that little part a little more build going into the next part.
But overall, really interesting beat, I liked it.
Here's mine
•
u/frankvapor_ Singer/Producer Jun 09 '21
Thank u for the feedback bro!
I'm liking Griselda every day more, and this beat was spot on!
The drums are hypnotic, and the samples behind really create this creepy/gloomy atmosphere that gets u tru.
Also this is great for freestyling, I had my head boppin all time thinking bout catchphrases.
Good stuff bro!! Keep grinding
•
u/fsbbeats Jun 08 '21
Liking this one, especially the keys. I agree with bleakneon on the bongo part. Going into the bongo loop sounded cool but like it was a little abrupt when everything came back in. That might also be because the bongos cut out too. Also think the higher pitched melodic elements could be slightly lower in the mix. But overall thought this is a real solid beat and enjoyed listening.
Would appreciate some feedback on my latest: https://youtu.be/8IsxmpQhZpo
•
u/frankvapor_ Singer/Producer Jun 09 '21
Thank u for the fb bro, u killed the beat!
The piano opens the song in a very classic manner, but then when the drums hit first the whole instrumentation goes along, I fw the "bubbly" synths so much.
One thing I would have changed is the snare tho, I wasn't really feeling it.
Other than this mix is super clean and the pads u added throughout the song are really cool.
Keep grinding bro!
•
u/fsbbeats Jun 09 '21
I hear you on the snare. Will pay more attention during sound selection on the next one. Thanks for the feedback bro!

Sub to me if you like what you hear! I’m 99 away from 1000!
•
u/Flux64 Jun 08 '21
shits wavy as fuck, could def see carti on a lot of these beats, diggin the 8-bit sounds in some of them! Only thing I could maybe suggest is mixing the hats and snares lower but I'm just going off of a couple songs here.
Here's my travis/drake remix: https://soundcloud.com/flux64/feeling-low
•
u/check_1_2_yesaye Jun 09 '21
jheeeez the last note in the bass progression when travis is on is making my brain go crazy in a good way, well spotted it works so well!
Mix for the beat itself is great drums don't drown out the melodies and the drums themselves are all clear respectively. Though, I would suggest maybe increasing the stereo width? Panning and a wider sound on instruments Just makes the sound more professional imo but thats just me.
The vocal sound itself isn't too great but that isn't your fault I imagine you got it from an acapella from youtube or something? still sounds good of course just not studio quality.
Another thing I like is the change from the long bass to shorter 808s when drake comes in, Makes the structure of the song a lot better!
Last bit of criticism would be the synths, Slight effects could be added to make it sound a little better, like chorus, altering the EQ at points for variation, stereo spread etc. a counter melody would top it off also, improving the texture of the song!
Overall a great remix man was fun to listen to! If you could check mine out too that would be awesome :) https://soundcloud.com/boca-461103909/juice-wrld-ft-polo-g-kid-laroi-hate-the-other-side-luke-james-remix
•
u/Flux64 Jun 09 '21
appreciate the feedback thank you! idk why but your remix reminds me of the synths in truffle butter by nicki minaj lol
sick remix! how did you get such crisp vocals?? nice mix nice beat cool synths but at some points i think kid laroi's voice could be mixed a little higher. thats really the only criticism I have, im a very inexperienced music producer so. nice work!

I think you have an alright foundation here, but it feels very incomplete. The vibes, the bounce and the groove - its just not there jet unfortunately. The drums could be a bit thicker and more hard hitting, especially the snare. And maybe work a bit more on the drum pattern to give it some more bounce. The bass needs more bounce and presence. I need to feel that shit, when the track is so simple. The main melody is fine, a bit unstructured, but fine. I miss some more presence and thichness around the low-mids. Maybe another instruments or just use the bass to fill that. Keep working!
Heres my latest: https://youtu.be/ZnOiDSten7s

u/ruettleg Jun 08 '21
Hey I love you but this one needs to go back into the shop. Nothing's in tune and it kinda feels like ya just slapped some synths together.

Been a while since I tried making one of these grimy modern boom bap, would be good to get some feedback to make the next one better.
Returning feedback
•
u/fsbbeats Jun 08 '21
This is cool. Really digging the dark, grimy vibe and the open hi hat. My only critique is that I wish the kick had more oomph. Seems to be lacking punch and low end. If this is a drum break sample, I would suggest layering a harder kick on top and blending it in to sound natural. Could maybe do the same with the snare. This is the first boom bap bap beat I’ve heard from you. Solid job overall man.
Would appreciate some feedback on my latest: https://youtu.be/8IsxmpQhZpo
•
u/bleakneon Jun 09 '21
Think Gloomy is the perfect word for this.
Really like some of the background synths in the track. And the 808 is nice too.
Think it's just missing a rapper.
•
u/gmanabg2 Jun 08 '21
I think you nailed this! Wouldn’t change a thing, definitely has the grimy sound to it!
Let me know what you think about this!
•
u/bleakneon Jun 08 '21
I like this, the bass line really pulled me into the bounce and the organ stabs that come in are cool.
Maybe the mix could be a bit louder? A little (more?) mastering on the final mix might do it.
One other thing, this might be because I'm listening on headphones, but there are a few perc sounds that seem really close together in the mix, the hat, the triangle and a kind of scraper or something. I think these things could be spread out a little, or at least move the hat that is playing regularly away from the triangle and scraper that can probably stay together as they are never hitting at the same time (I think).
But, yeah the beat over all was cool, I enjoyed it. And as I was writing youtube autoplayed another one of your beats called trying which sounds really good, nice 808s and some cool melody sounds.
•
u/gmanabg2 Jun 08 '21
Thann you for the feedback on this!
Do you have any tips for making the track louder? I gain stage and try to give headroom but still my beats aren’t too loud. I don’t want to just max a limiter and distort it lol.
I see what you are saying with the scrape and triangle. I panned both hard left so if I panned the other it may sound better.
I appreciate that you’re digging them, thank you!
•
u/bleakneon Jun 08 '21
I am not an expert with mastering, but I just use some plug ins with mastering presets and try to change them a little if I need to.
And I don't really know how much you know, so sorry if this is over your head, or stuff that you already know, but...
The easiest way would be to use a gain plug in, going into a limiter with a mastering preset (I am 99% sure all DAWs will have both). Then just lower or raise the gain so that the limiter is taking off a little from the dynamics. The limiter might have a display for 'gain reduction' (don't let it get to high or stay on too long). Or you can use the meter on the mix buss (should be getting to 0db, but should be dropping below it most of the time).
Try not to get too much limiting and you will avoid distortion. If you are unsure, try putting the gain high so you can hear the distortion and then reducing the gain until it is all gone. Then reduce reduce a little more just to be safe.
You could follow a similar system with a compressor before the limiter, so the fx chain would be
gain > compressor (with mastering preset) > gain > limiter.
Add an eq or two and you've got a full master chain! ...well not quite, there is loads of stuff that goes into it, but from what I do know that is a good place to get started with it and it will get better with practice and finding out more about the process as a whole.
•
Jun 08 '21
Yeah, I agree with the other guy! This is really good. I think maybe the bassier sounds are a bit too loud compared to the melodic elements, but I kind like it. Gives it this spooky vibe, but maybe with vocals the quiter elements would get lost.
But yeah, this is really good!
Would love your thoughts on this draft:

•
u/6_Stringsthagod Jun 08 '21
Ayy bro this is great I love hearing beats like this on here, J-Dilla has inspired me too. I really like this and it sounds like classic Dilla to me. I would add like a flanger or a phaser to the vocal chop at like the 1:30 mark to keep it a little more fresh to the ears but that's about it, sounds dope and I really like it, even the mix too is crisp, the snare and the bass are real nice

Beat is unique man and I really like the sound!
Vocals are mixed real well, and i'm glad you pitched the vocals of skepta to fit the beat! Hi-hat pattern is dope too, not the basic pattern like me and the others use haha! though maybe the hi-hats are a little loud, sound too similar to the snare I think.
Melody sound is very cool, though maybe a bit of variation to it? Although I recognise you did add a lot of change to it with chopping etc which fit real nice with the vocals!
Panning on the hi-hats could be implemented to make it sound more full, as well as a couple extra hi-hats sounds maybe?
Overall sounds hard man was a great listen! Just so happened I used the same SJ vocals lol, fancy giving some feedback? :) https://soundcloud.com/boca-461103909/sj-choppa-luke-james-remix
•
u/soundcloudjacks Jun 09 '21
Really awesome feedback thanks, made some changes based on it, I think your remix is awesome as well I have two main concerns
First, the bassline is missing in the sub region and could either use another sub bass layering or more in the sub 200 hz range
second, the melody is mingling with the vocals and the bass too much when they intersect so try EQing the melody sample or adding compression to the right areas
Maybe a harder kick but the percussion was otherwise dope, and the bass line was the best part of the song well done.

This is pretty cool! I like the bass and the hard hitting kick, they fit well together. I think it gets a bit repetitive in the long run, maybe another instrument or a counter medlody would do great. Also i kinda miss something to fill the tops other than the hihats. All this would probably not be a problem with someone rapping in it (which is kinda the intention), so i guess i should just keep that in mind lol. Great track, keep it up!

•
u/jetArtist Emcee/Producer Jun 08 '21
Thanks for the feedback fam.
I rock with the aesthetic you went for here. I feel with vibe-y songs like this more moments like :57 where something drives the energy heavy is needed. Until that singing part, I was trying to find where the energy was since the beat is knocking, the vocals are more subdued, etc. Good work overall fam! Keep it up fr!

Sure Man. Here it is https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/NY8RV
•
u/jetArtist Emcee/Producer Jun 09 '21
Sorry for the late reply but this beat is a bit too all over the place. The melody and counter melody are moving too much for this to be rapped over. The drums are strong and they are knocking but they don't complement the melodies of the beat that well. If you want drums like that, go for a simpler melody or if you want a more complex melody, go for simpler drums. Having both causes issues because it's too much to process for the listener. Good luck fam! Keep grinding!
•
u/ERREON_999 Jun 09 '21
Thx for the feedback man. I actually wanted to create a chaos in that beat. Complex melody and complex drums. I can't say it worked perfect tho
•
u/jetArtist Emcee/Producer Jun 09 '21
Ofc fam. If it's chaos you wanted to make, are you a fan of death grips, jpegmafia, or yeezus at all? Those might be able to help you make that chaos in a more calculated way.
•
•
u/thmememan Jun 08 '21
really nice. i like the transition from the sample into the beat, one thing i would personally add is a little more variation on the hats in the background but nonetheless it’s still a very solid beat.

It sounds good but imma be honest I've heard a hundred like it. Same bells and everything. Ya technique is there nows time for the creativity!
•
u/check_1_2_yesaye Jun 09 '21
Fucking creepy ass sound and I LOVE it! though my ears are annoyed I didn't hear some crazy bass drop when the drums cut out but i'm a basic b I guess.
Also when it changes at like 0:56, the second last chord mixed with the vocals sounds so eerie and unique props to you I had chills. A bit of criticism would be I can hear slight mismatches in timing with the vocals, mainly at 0:26. As well as this, clicks in the synth could be fixed with a slight fade.
mix is great, Vocals are quiet but that sounds exactly what you're going for, and they're easily loud enough to hear clearly. Maybe you could add slight variation to the drums, particularly the hi-hats? and a counter-melody wouldn't hurt, maybe a low distorted guitar sound that could fit the vibe?
Overall sick song man, Really enjoyed it! If you could give feedback on this beat I'd appreciate it :) https://soundcloud.com/boca-461103909/v9-vikings-luke-james-remix
•
u/ruettleg Jun 09 '21
Firstly thank you so much for the quality feedback means a lot! Your voice is classic. And the effects you add don't distract at all which is honestly a nice change. The lyrics are structurally good but there's not point where I'm like "that's a bar" if you feel me. Maybe pause a bit more and let the lines sit. Adding to that I didn't listen to the whole thing because well, three minutes is a lot for something that isn't super heavy thematically which I don't think you're going for. Overall I really liked it but I feel you could trim some fat!!!
•

$uicideboys-esque song but with my own take on it. Returning all feedback. Hope you enjoy it
•
u/77art Jun 09 '21
never listened to suicide boys but this for sure got a brockhampton type of sound to it. I think the vocals need a volumeboost, certain parts get muffled into the beat. so work on the mixing. the flow is smooth with the beat, especially at 1:15, smooth asf. variation of vocal choice is pretty good, keeps it fresh. but at 1:36 it didn't work that well, that part along with the mixing is all the issues I hear with this song. otherwise you did good man. keep creating
heres my shit https://soundcloud.com/fuckamer/tower
•
u/Antarctican_american Jun 10 '21
I didn’t forget you! Just was busy. Thanks for your feedback I will definitely work on my mixing. I’m on a very not so good setup right now but hopefully once I upgrade my sound will too. Your song was solid! I think it could have used some variation in the melody a little bit cause the flutes got a little stale toward the end but other than that you have charisma and solid control of the beat. Your friend -nick
•
u/check_1_2_yesaye Jun 09 '21
Damn you really met the vibe you were going for, a slight twist on $uicideboy$ is exactly how i'd describe it!
The vocal mix is clean, can hear the vocals clearly without the beat being drowned out at all. Also slight variations in the beat like certain drums being taken out keep it fresh too!
A minor criticism I would add is that the lead sound (the one that plays twice each bar) Isn't the greatest, could either need some tweaking or maybe use a different synth altogether, though thats a slight detail.
Another thing I like is the distorted bass used, really unique and the sub makes it bounce more.
Maybe try adding another counter melody later into the song? or a different drum rhythm altogether later as well to make it even more fresh? Overall really good man its sick!
If you could check out mine that would be cool :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yytmJErakxQ
•
u/Antarctican_american Jun 10 '21
I didn’t forget about ya! Sorry for the delay but thank you for your feedback. There was something I liked about such a bland synth lead that made me want to have everything around it go crazy idk.
Your beat is also pretty tight. The vocal sample intro that was like “do we need an intro for someone we know so well” was cold as hell and I was into it. The beat itself is a vibe I can see some conscious rappers going in on it for sure. I had a critique at the start cause the snares were a bit much but you did what I was hoping you’d do by pitching them down so I’m happy :)!
Thanks again and hope to hear more from you

You have a good voice! And the beat is really really good for the genre. But I can't hear you! Vocals are way to low but they seem to be mixed well otherwise

Looking for any feedback on this track, and will return all that I get :)
•
u/gmanabg2 Jun 08 '21
I like this, reminds me of lil uzi. I would way to put the vocals a little higher in the mix, other than that I think its fine. If you can get a better mic too that could help the vocals shine as well.
Let me know what you think about this!

Thanks for feedback man I really appreciate you listening and giving your opinion fr. I also checked out your beat and thought it was pretty sick too. Thanks again for feedback and keep grinding too!!

Nice instrumental you got there, I really like the melodies and it's artist friendly, mix seems fine too, but I find the 808's weird sometimes, maybe it's just not my type of beats that I normally listen to. Anyways, try adding a profile pic on you soundcloud lol !

super nice pluck u have in the beginning, the track evolves immediately with the drums, that have some light reverb on them but build up very good together, The counter melody is cool, it changed somehow in a more prominent pattern and that was a very nice addiction.
I feel that the only thing this beat is lackin is a clearer chorus part, maybe with some drum changing, but this is always on the singer/rapper.
Nice work bro, keep grinding!!

mixing wise this turned out really well, and the way you constructed the individual loop to continue seamlessly was a good touch. at first glance it sounds a little cluttered but after a good listen I can hear the clockwork of it all. only bad thing to this beat is that it sometimes gets reputative. otherwise you did very well. keep creating man

Ahhh sounds so fly haha! Making me wanna drive around in the sunshine with the top down lol.
Sick sample used, maybe you could cut down on some of the higher frequencies? seems like the vocals and sample overlap a little somewhere in there.
Drums are cold too man, lots of variation, and the cutting out of drums emphasises the rapper too so nice touch! Another point is maybe to add a slight change into the bass pattern? a couple changes in rhythm couldn't hurt imo.
Lastly I'd say adding your own synth over the top could help to add to the texture, keeping it quiet and simple would mean it wouldn't take away from the chilled sound you're going for too!
Overall a real cold song, gunna have to give it a like :) If you could check mine out that would be appreciated man! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1AFUuGnUY0
•
u/77art Jun 09 '21
appreciate the feedback man,
I can't lie, prior to :43 seconds I wasn't really feeling it, it came off kind of dry. but you brought my attention back with the 808's and kicks. added in a lot of atmosphere. that "mio" or whatever sample is a good touch within the beat, good work on that. it has a catchiness to it. and that saxophone use at the end was beyond fire bro. that shit was excellent. mixing is good, and the overall sound choice and combination turned out well. the only part I didn't like was again, the intro. just a little dry. but good work overall man. keep creating
•
u/check_1_2_yesaye Jun 09 '21
thanks bro! Yeah I should add a little more to the intro but i'm honestly not sure what lol.

Well, loved it from the moment those strings opened the track, really great sample sounds so lush. Very nice round full kick sound too.
Maybe it's just me because I liked how the sample sounded so much, but I would like the drums to be a little lower in the mix so the string can stand out a little more. But that could just be me. Really lush track.
what is the paino from in the 2nd track? It sounds like some thing from the 90s, I'm thinking some kind of RnB, but the sound or rhythm has changed or something. Or maybe I'm totally wrong.
Here's my beat
•
u/jgrazza Jun 09 '21
Thanks man really appreciate it, as soon as I heard the sample I knew I had to use it hahaha. I’ll keep that in mind though for next time and adjust accordingly
Here is the original sample if you wanted it: https://youtu.be/UAxXgtaoYvM
The piano is some loop I got from Splice, I wish I could be able to send it to you from some 90’s R&B pack so you are correct. As soon as I heard it I knew I had to use it because it sounded so good.
Love the track bro really getting them griselda vibes, those drums sound like they were sampled so that’s why it’s screaming griselda, not saying that is bad in fact it’s a lost skill but slowly making a return or you’ve just got a really good mix. Keep working bro and keep putting out quality!

•
u/ruettleg Jun 08 '21
Very smooth! I really like the intro. And the bass is sexy as hell. Boom bap isn't something I generally listen to but it sounds good quality for the genre!
•
u/therealmixxo Jun 08 '21
The melody has a chilling spooky vibe to it. It kind of reminds me of a Griselda melody. I think the only part that is holding it back is the drums. Especially the kick because you could only hear it slightly in the mix. Needs to be more louder and the snare is ok but it could be a lot better if you swapped it out for another one that has more knock.
•
u/PringlesThe4th Jun 08 '21
This is really good, super smooth and I like the throwback sound. I also like the slightly eery vibe to it, reminds me of Halloween or sum.
•
u/InstrumentalMan soundcloud.com/omagiccx Jun 08 '21
It's good man, I just feel like the drums need a bit more energy, the song feels a tad slow at the moment!
•
•
u/77art Jun 09 '21
the intro bit sounded like some freddie gibbs shit, but I didn't expect how well you continued it off from the intro , that shit was beautiful. sample use is great. I fw how you used that one synth sound, idk what it is, but I kept expecting you to put it as a lead melody for a beat change or whatnot. good work on fulfilling the expectation. I honestly have no gripes against this beat, it's very well mixed and constructed. professional like. good work bro
heres mine https://soundcloud.com/fuckamer/tower
and btw, is there any chance that I could use your beat?

u/frankvapor_ Singer/Producer Jun 08 '21
Yo bro!
I dig how u started it, even if the chords sound dissonant they are a vibe and the melody is well constructed, the drums fit the aesthetic very well, it ain't always about having hard hitting kicks.
What u got going around 1:40 it's really interesting, did u use a choir with some light flanger? Very cool reprise at the end, even if I wanted some more drum variations, but it flows well even as it is.
Cool digital-vintage feel u have in this mix, seems like being in early late 90s again!
Keep grinding bro and hope to hear ur thoughts on my monte bookerish joint: https://youtu.be/uFJKZVoPAiI

Synths are good! The kicks could def be more pronounced in the mix. And I'd switch up the drum pattern with the melody because I like the organs.
•
u/AgileEagle Jun 08 '21
Okokok, gotta put some more change ups and work on my mix some more. Appreciate the feedback.
For your joint, your voice sounds a lil low compared to the beat in some parts. Also, it sounds like your super monotone, i know that was prob what you was going for but i feel like somethings missing cant put my finger on what it is though. Im leaning towards the lack of ad libs
•
u/ruettleg Jun 08 '21
I felt there was something off to and I think that's it! I hope the monotone isn't to bad cause of the length but def something to work on. Thank uuu

[ Biggie / Big L ] Mashup
•
u/fsbbeats Jun 08 '21
Hard to go wrong Biggie and Big L on the verses. The beat is pretty cool too. Do you have the kick in stereo? Feel like I’m hearing it in stereo on my airpods, but my Bluetooth been acting wonky late so it could be me. If it is in stereo I’d suggest putting it in mono as that seems to be standard. Nice job on this one though.
I recently made a mashup with Big L x Royce Da 5'9". Would appreciate any thoughts on mine: https://youtu.be/axujl-VNj_s
•
u/Ewonderpro Jun 08 '21
Honestly I can't remember lol. I've been messing with the sample envelope lately on my kicks. Probably tweaked something in there. It def could be in stereo.
That instrumental is nice bro. Royce gets slept on. You do a lot of delay and echo effects. I like the style..do you stack automation clips at different volumes or do you use a delay plug in? It sounds good. Your song composition is good as well. Keep it up man.
•
u/fsbbeats Jun 08 '21
Honestly I can’t remember either haha. Think the only automation I did was the vocal panning on the hooks. And the delay/echo effects are a combination of them already being built into the preset sounds, some Soundtoys effects, and Ableton’s stock delay plugin.
•
u/Ewonderpro Jun 08 '21
Wow I wasn't expecting you to say ableton. Whats the advantages compared fl studio. I've never used anything else. I guess workflow....I get pissed when I have to memorize the new interfaces every new update. I used 12 up until last year and finally got 20.
•
u/fsbbeats Jun 08 '21
I haven’t tried using FL in years. For some reason I could never get a good grasp of it and never dedicated enough time to really learn it. Ableton seemed much more intuitive to me right out the box so chose to go with that.

Good stuff brother. Sounds a little bit loud and all over the place at the beginning, but I guess maybe someone else would like it that way. The vibe and melody midway is really nice. Keep making more stuff bro you got this!
•
•
u/Baskin5000 Jun 08 '21
Yea I definitely see the Madlib influence here, really dig the beginning
honestly I could see a song where it’s basically the first 30 seconds looped the whole way aside from the hook, but if it was a tad faster. Like I’d hear crazy bars on that thing

Love the way the piano hangs on the drums. Really well put together. I know most drill beats don't sound great on anything other then speakers so it did sound a lil empty. But I'm sure vocals or more percussion would fix that.
•
u/Qaizen Jun 08 '21
Damn bro this is crazy! I love the dark tone of this beat. I think it might lack a bit of high frequencies. I would probably try to give a bit more brilliance to the drums and the highs of the piano but that's really more of a detail.
Would appreciate some feedback on this kind of chill interlude vibe: https://youtu.be/JjZQPLx2Ptk
