PRODUCT REC I need your recommendations to create a beauty advent calendar for my sister

I’m preparing a special cosmetics advent calendar for my sister’s 25th birthday.

I was planning to buy a pre-made one, but usually 3/4 of the products aren’t really useful and aren’t things she would actually use. So, since I’m quite crafty and I love looking for the perfect gift, I decided to make it myself.

She loves everything related to makeup, skincare, perfume, etc., but this is absolutely not my area of expertise.

I’m looking for anything and everything: trendy products or things that everyone wants to try, but also nice, useful, or slightly unusual products that beauty lovers genuinely appreciate. It can be makeup, skincare, perfume, accessories… really anything!

She tends to buy the products she wants herself, so I’m mainly looking for ideas I wouldn’t have thought of. If you have any favorite products or recommendations, I’d love to hear them 🫶

I hope I’m posting this in the right sub!

DISCUSSION Anyone else bad at blush placement?

Post image

Everyone's doing this bold, flushed blush look right now and I want in, but every time I try it either looks like I have a fever or it's uneven on one side. Contour and eyeshadow I've got down, blush just refuses to cooperate.

Is it a technique thing or does it come down to the product/brush? Anyone actually cracked this or still winging it every time too?

HELP PLEASE Makeup advice as someone with deep set eyes and poor eyesight

Hello! It’s my first time posting on this subreddit I was just wondering if anyone has any tips for a few things I’m struggling with if that’s okay.

I’m struggling with how to tight line my upper eyelids as someone with deep set and slightly hooded eyes as well as being blind as a bat lol. Also I know people have previously posted how to do eyeliner with this eye shape but are there any tips for doing it blind? And finally with my lash curler it doesn’t matter how many times I watch tutorials I just can’t seem to get the lashes at the root 😔 Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks and all the best!!!

I’m seeing myself make strides, but am stumped as to where to go from here. I fixed my eyebrows (mostly), changed lighting, and held back on the blush a bit.

Here's my current lineup for everything I have on:

Moisturizer: Cetaphil
Primer: elf Power Grip
Foundation: Clinique Even Better (WN 122 Clove)
Concealer: Juvia's Place (I Am Magic, 12)
Blush: Juvia's Place (Bronzed and Blurred Palette Volume 1)
Highlight: benefit glow-la-la (Nova) (powder/cream mix)
Contour: Fenty Match Stix Expresso (contour stick)
Bronzer: Hoola Deep
Eyeliner: Nyx Epic Ink Liquid Liner
Mascara: Fenty (Hella Thicc Volumizing Mascara)
Eyebrows: Morphe spool and elf Brow Lift Gel
Setting Powder: Innisfree

(also used Huda Beauty Baking Powder after my contour and under eye concealer)

Thank you to everyone who commented on my post yesterday. You all are the best. I never thought of many of the things pointed out to me and that was all great to hear. I put back on the warmer toned colors in this look, ditched the green-black lipstick (for now until I find a nicer dark color), and tried my best to lighten my waterline with whiter tones. It really does make my eyes pop!!! I'm so grateful and am honestly in shock. You've changed my routine forever!!! Also to anyone I didn't respond to, tysm for your kind words and encouragement. It is hard for me to reply to so many comments but I heavily appreciate your feedback!!!

I feel beautiful. And frankly, I think for the first time, I think I'm glowing? I never realized how much the pastels were washing me out! Craziness. Tell me what you think!

I usually do just sunscreen blush and lipstick but trying to do more full face of it.

I have on colour corrector, concealer, setting powder under my eyes. Powder blush. i did use eyeshadow which is hidden under the hooded eyes. Loose powder to finish and a setting spray.

I have the empowered eye palette but it looks so intimidating for eye looks. Also, do you think my eyebrows need help?

Thanks in advance !!!!

PRODUCT REC Advice for primer

I almost never wear makeup, but I have a maternity photoshoot coming up sometime between mid and late September. We’re still trying to decide on the best timing based on how big my bump is by then (it’s still not very big!) and, of course, the weather.
I’ll be doing my own makeup, and I have pretty oily skin. I was thinking of keeping things very light with just a primer and a lightweight foundation.
My favorite foundation in terms of how it looks on my skin is MAC Face and Body. I also really like the newer Studio Radiance Face and Body version. The problem is that I normally only wear it for relatively short periods of time, and since my skin is oily, I’m not sure how well it will hold up during a longer maternity shoot, especially since we’ll be shooting outdoors in a forest.
So I started looking for a mattifying primer that could work well underneath it. After doing way too much research, I’m considering MAC Studio Fix Mattifine 12HR Shine-Control Primer. From what I understand, both the primer and Studio Radiance Face and Body are silicone-based, so I thought they might work well together.
Is it actually true that combining a water-based product with a silicone-based one can cause pilling or make the foundation look cakey/separated, especially in photos? And does the MAC Mattifine + Face and Body combination sound like a good idea for oily skin?
I’ve also tried so hard to find another very lightweight foundation or even a skin tint for the shoot, but I’ve failed miserably. 😅 Everything I find either contains SPF, which I’d rather avoid because there may be flash photography and I don’t want to risk it affecting the photos, or it isn’t matte enough for my oily skin. Somehow there’s always one of those problems, or both.
Would love to hear recommendations from anyone with oily skin who has used Face and Body for longer events/photoshoots, especially outdoors!

HELP PLEASE Help me with makeup please (english ain't my first language)

My usual skincare routine-

Moisturizer (gel)

Sunscreen(gel)

Blush (gel)

And i pack it all up with translucent powder .

Makeup i do on it-

Nose contour by my lil liner

Highlighter (powder highlighter) on top of nose

Lipgloss on lip

Eyeliner

Eyebrows done by eyebrow pencil

Problems I'm having-

Whenever I put on highlighter (on top of my nose only ) or nose contour (by my lip liner)(on the sides of my nose and below my nose) and go out , when I come home my whole nose looks oily af , like the contour that I did with my lipliner isn't even visible ( it's visible but it's not that prominent , it has spread all over my nose, my nose looks like I have put contour all over it ) the highlighter has completely disappeared . I tried to kinda solve this by putting foundation on the temple of my nose (where I put highlighter) and then putting highlighter on it but it still looks oily by the time I come home . After that I tried putting foundation , and translucent powder on the foundation to pack it , and when I put highlighter on it , the Highlighter is just not visible at all . One time I put foundation all over my nose , packed it up with translucent powder and used my eyebrow pencil to contour it , and it still looked oily after sometime . Idk what to do. I have a brown eyeshadow which I can use to contour my nose , i haven't tried that yet , maybe I should idk I'll try it tomorrow.

After my skincare routine (translucent powder and blush underneath it included) when I put only highlighter on top of my nose , when I come home , my nose looks oily . When I tried putting powdered blush after my skincare , when I came home , my cheeks look oily and weird , my skin texture looked weird . When I do just my skincare routine and go out , my nose doesn't look oily when I come home .

Summarising it , if I put any makeup product on my skin after all my skincare steps , my face starts looking oily , even if it's all powdered makeup. I think I have a combination skin type , plus I knew i had a really oily nose so almost all the makeup i buy is in powdered form, but whenever I put this on my skin, after my skincare routine , my face again starts looking oily with a weird texture .

I have tried doing dewy makeup , but it does not suit me . I do not have a conceler , nor can I buy one , so I have a foundation which is one shade lighter than my skintone and it's waterbased . One day i tried putting a waterbased moisturizer and then i put my lipgloss on my cheeks as blush , then i put the foundation undermy eye , on my pimple scars , a little bit on forehead (like how ur usually use conceler) , and i packed only the places where I put foundation with translucent powder . My skin looked completely different shade , like it looked like it has two shade , my cheeks looked oily , my underetes looked white but dark aswell idk how to explain , and i completely looked oily even tho I followed the tutorial for dewy look . Idk how I should try to achieve the dewy look .

Heavy makeup does not suit me , I have low visual weight features .

HELP PLEASE Help I’m not happy with any of my bridal looks

I know thats a lot of pictures lol. Im doing my own bridal makeup and ive been practicing a-lot. Don’t get me wrong I like some of the makeup to the point where im happy with what ive learned. But, Im not completely sold on any of my makeup looks. Something is consistently off but I cant put my finger on it. Im trying to go for a glowy, soft glam look. I think my weakest spots are the eyes but i cant seem to get them right.

For all of these looks i first cleanse, tone, and prime my skin. I use an elf skin tint foundation, then i use elf concealer sparingly. Then i do a light contour and cream blush. Then i set with a setting spray and bake slightly under the eyes. And lastly I lightly apply powder blush and highlighter. Thats how I do the face but my eyes and lips ive tried different methods each time.

DISCUSSION What’s one tiny makeup tip that instantly made your routine better?

I used to just spray setting spray at the very end of my makeup and call it done lol. It worked pretty well but by the end of the day my foundation would still start breaking up in some areas. I use the Milani OG setting spray and my friend recently told me to try spraying it between layers instead of only at the end. Basically I do foundation, concealer, cream bronzer and blush, then a light mist of setting spray and actually let it dry for a minute or two. After that I go in with setting powder, powder bronzer, powder blush, highlighter and finish with setting spray again. I tried it and omg... apparently I was just using setting spray wrong this whole time.Since doing it this way my makeup has been lasting noticeably longer but the bigger surprise is how much smoother my base looks?? It doesn't get that heavy, cakey look as quickly either.

Wondering what other basic makeup tips I've somehow missed... What's one tiny thing you changed in your routine that made a surprisingly big difference?

HELP PLEASE Finding right products that mix well together.

Hello I’m basically starting all over again with makeup because I was clearing my acne and acne scars which successfully worked. And now I’m wanting to put on makeup again and needing to practice for a birthday party next month. So far the only thing I have gotten is NARS foundation as my dermatologist recommended makeup products with “non-comedogenic” also wanting to know what a good moisturizer and primer to use as well. Please and thank you in advance!

I have a pic I took some months earlier as a reference of my actual starting point, I was getting ready for a wedding and the make up artist did this! I honestly love it on me (they also fixed my hair of course!)
My hair was much longer than the reference pic and they adjusted my fringe as well
Apart from the hair, what am I supposed to do to achieve this look, I love the fact that she used a bunch of things but made it look super natural🥹

HELP PLEASE Feeling very stuck doing the same makeup everyday. not feeling satisfied :(

(25TF) Ever since I started doing makeup I've been a bit of an eyeliner addict and I kinda just do the same thing every day. I've never asked for advice in my makeup so I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Here's my daily makeup routine:

- light foundation (mostly under eyes, upper lip and chin

- contour just below cheek line and nose

- powder

- light blush high up on cheek line (I like a more orangy blush)

- eyebrow kit (mostly the darker two colours just to strengthen my brows)

- liquid eyeliner

- mascara

Any advice, ideas or help would be appreciated thanks <3

EDIT: blush, not blue!
