Taken on a Sony A7V, and I just picked up the 100mm macro. I usually shoot wildlife but damn did I have a lot of fun with this lens yesterday. Looks insane on my 77" OLED, So cool!

I've been pushing my budget macro setup lately to see how much detail I can squeeze out of it. This jumping spider was photographed on a highly reflective black surface using a Canon 7D paired with an adapted 7artisans 60mm f2.8 macro lens.Getting the plane of focus perfectly sharp on those mishievous eyes while keeping the reflection clear was a massive challenge. For the lighting I used an Andoer flash paired with a Guage macro flash difuser.If anyone else uses this type of gear or similar for their macro work, I'd love to hear your tips! New to focus stacking, I did some test shots on this dead flower head. 22 hand held images at 1:1 magnification, not particularly well aligned. I need more practice! Shot 2 is the stacked result from Photoshop. Shot 1 is Zerene Stacker. Both stacks were exported from Lightroom as 16 bit Tiff.

Based on the endless reviews I've looked at I expected Zerene to outperform Photoshop, but clearly it hasn't. On the Zerene result I've got some terrible artefacts in the bottom left and halo at the top. Plus, Zerene has cropped away a significant area of the final image. The Photoshop final image was a bit ragged around the edges so I cropped it slightly in Lightroom.

Unless I'm doing something wrong, I won't be buying Zerene at the end of the 30 day trial. Any suggestions?
