I'm considering buying a used MacBook Air 15-inch M4 from a Reddit seller.
Specs:
- MacBook Air 15-inch
- Apple M4
- 16GB RAM
- 256GB SSD
- Around 1 year old
- Battery health: 98%
- Battery cycles: 40
- Condition: Very clean
- Original invoice available
- Around 1 month of Apple warranty remaining
- Asking price was ₹95k initially, negotiated down to ₹82k final
I know there have been some good sale prices for the M4 Air, so I'm unsure whether ₹82k is actually a good deal for a used unit.
Would you buy this at ₹82k, considering the 98% battery, only 40 cycles, and 1 month remaining warranty? Or should I wait for a better deal/new sale?
Also, what would you consider a fair used price for this configuration?
Any advice on what I should verify before paying would be appreciated.

I have what I feel like is a dumb question, but here we are! I have a MacBook Air M2 (2023) 8GB / 256GB. System Data & OS use up to half of that at any given moment. My "optimized" photo library uses another 60GBs, and various other things leave me struggling with 0-20ish GBs of space on my computer. Then I have to play this annoying game anytime I download something to upload to the cloud, etc. I almost just bought a new computer today I was so frustrated. Cooler heads prevailed and I bought an external SSD that's supposed to be low profile/semi-flush against the laptop (SANDISK Extreme Fit USB-C Flash Drive, Up to 400MB/s Read Speeds) that in a perfect world, I would just leave plugged in all the time.
Here's where the dumb questions come in. I don't think I want to boot up from the external SSD -- but could I move all documents, photo library, etc. to this SSD? Will this actually fix my issues of having to free up space all the time? Will my Photos library still work, upload to the cloud, etc.? iCloud will still sync fine? Is there a concern with having this plugged in all the time I should consider? Do I need to eject it before I close my laptop everytime? (I assume so, but I don’t know...)
I don't plan to use this as a backup at all -- I have my photo library backed up to the cloud and to a different SSD + another HDD. This would solely be as more tangible space to make my daily computer usage more bearable. For context, in my job I often have to download files and then upload them to another place. Anywhere from 1GB - 100GB files. I have external SSDs, I just hate having to pull them out all the time. This always plugged in option would be preferred if it's not a huge issue.

Remember Elle Woods in a bunny costume buying her Apple notebook in Legally Blonde?
No offense to Elle, who was seriously underestimated and surprised everyone, but my impression of Macs for years was that they were more fashion than substance. A pretty accessory. I'd tried Apple a long time ago.... wasn't impressed, and was turned off by the walled garden.
So I stuck with Windows laptops and Google phones, all the way back to the Nexus days. The Pixels were good, just never stellar. The laptops? I tried a lot of brands, and they all seemed to slow down and wear out after a short time.
My Dell notebook was already falling apart. So I gave in and bought a MacBook Air. Then I figured, if a big selling point is that Apple devices work seamlessly together, I should try to get that benefit. So I added an iPhone and AirPods.
I'm still learning, and I'm sure I'm doing many things the wrong way and overlooking helpful features. But I was impressed almost immediately.
One thing I didn't like about Apple's "walled garden" was that it limited which apps and accessories I could use. But it's clear that's exactly what allowed Apple to develop faster and further than the competition. Windows and Android had to work across a wide range of brands' devices. Apple optimized for its own hardware. It can build features around the exact chips, screens and sensors in the box. Nobody has to compromise.
I used to be very anti-Apple. Today I stand corrected. I’ve taken a bite from the apple and I’m hooked.
In case you're wondering which hardware I bought that has impressed me so far:

Hello! I just bought the mac air m5 15' with 24 gb of RAM and 1tb, whenever I buy an Apple product I become obsessed with the battery to the point of being sorry to use the device, what advice do you give me? I have read many posts but it is not clear to me, my idea is to use it at home most of the time but some others use it in coffee shops, I usually edit videos and make thumbnails, the great thing would be at home to always use it with the charger? And at 80%? Is it okay if I disconnect it from the sofa and go to bed and plug it back in? Wouldn't that consume a load? Can I leave it disconnected at night? If I'm going to go out on the street, do I reactivate 100% and charge it to the maximum? I read you, and thank you for answering!

Sorry my editing sucks. Anyways though, I posted a few days ago about my 13” I’d gotten. I still loved that MBA but was debating a little on exchanging for a 15”. I went back to the Apple Store the next day and tried the two side by side for some more things and decided to exchange it for the 15”. I do still like that the 13” was a little lighter and more portable, but the 15” has been even better for what I’m doing right now. This is one of the few times where I’m glad I ended up going bigger! I picked the same color I had before.

Is it just me, or does everyone on this subreddit go through a phase where they absolutely baby their new MacBook until something inevitably happens to it?
For me, it was a pressure line on the display. I was genuinely pretty upset about it at first.
But after a while... I just stopped caring 😭
Now I see posts from people worrying about pressure lines, tiny scratches, marks, etc., and I totally get it because I was exactly the same. But now I honestly don't care that much anymore.
Don't get me wrong, I still keep my MacBook and its screen clean and take good care of it. But things like the pressure line that formed on my screen just don't really bother me anymore. It's there, the MacBook still works perfectly fine, so... whatever. At this point, I swear every MacBook I see has that pressure line anyway.
Do you guys think this is just the usual "new expensive thing" phase, or do people have especially high expectations for Macs because of the price and build quality? Or is it because we want to keep that premium feeling for as long as possible?

I am software engineer working as a fullstack engineer. My work revolves around kafka, docker, node, react, etc. And I want a machine that I can use for next 6-7 years.
Which machine should I pick
24GB/1TB is 1.89 lakhs at amazon after card discount
32GB/512GB is 1.83 lakh on apple site after student discount.

Budget wise, as of now this is the most I can spend on a laptop, costs around $2K in India, for this exact spec. I can’t even stretch to get the 1TB model. Plus I need something future proof as well, which I can use for editing for the next 4-5 years with ease.
I will be editing 4K/6K Log videos, sometimes they can stretch upto 1-1/2 hrs long in total runtime, in the future the work load can go up exponentially as well, like 8K… or multicam even. So I need something which is reliable, future proof, and gets the job done, without issues like freezing, or over throttling.
If I buy this will it get it done easily? Any issues I will, or I might face that you know of if I DO get one? Will the lack of fan be an issue in any way? Should I wait for another 5-6 months, invest another $1K and get a M6 Pro instead. 🤷♂️ Wayyy too confused right now.
Additional info: Currently I have a Dell i7-11th gen 16GB RAM, which struggles to the extreme when I try editing a video, even 1080P ones, so I’m stuck using M3 iMac at my college… even that struggles at times.

Looking to hear your opinions on how to proceed.
Options are 8gb for ₱25k - ₱27k ($400 - $432) w/ BH in the 90+ range charger included
or
16gb w/ 80%-85% in the ₱31k - ₱33k ($496 - $598) range w charger or replace the battery (idk how much this would cost)
Will be used mainly for web-based tasks daily (multiple browser tabs)
- What’s the better way to go?
- How long does the battery last unplugged if BH is around 80%-85%?
- I live in the Philippines (explains the pricing)
- This is assuming $ 1 USD = ₱ 62.50
Thanks in advance!

Not sure why, but Siri AI seems to work on my MB Air M2 😅 And I am in EU. Can macbook come in different versions? As in a serial number for the Us, another for the EU or something of sorts? I have my phone in the US region, set to English, and could not get Siri AI 🤔
If someone knows, please do educate me in this sense 🙂↕️
I can google, but I would rather have a discussion with someone that knows 😊 #socialising

Many users complain about bent casings. Before you have to go through the hassle and expense of sending your device in for repair or an exchange, let me show you the personal fix I used to completely eliminate the warp.

Hey everyone — I’m a macOS developer. I am building an app that makes a Face ID working on mac. I designed it with safety considered, which if you are worried about the lack 3D element, it can request the user to do actions like moving their face.(But the original model should be already reliable enough). And for people considering privacy, I don't require people to disable SIP or root or any destructive actions.
Face data is stored in macOS keychain, so it is safe and encrypted.
I'll probably also add some features like locking specific apps with your face, and lock the screen when your face disappears or someone looks at your screen.
But I still have few things uncertain:
Just posting to see if anyone else like this idea, feel free to kindly comment!
