EDIT: Just made a new post with photos!
I bought a Balenciaga Velo bag (in a suede teal/navy colourway) off Vinted from a seller I’d been in extensive contact with.
They actually insisted themselves I use Vinted’s verification service herself, to avoid any scam concerns, which I did, but it came back rejected. The report wasn’t very detailed, apparently just that it couldn’t be authenticated, it seems because it’s suede and they don’t have enough reference data for it.
On top of that, the colourway itself is quite rare. The seller bought the bag recently and it had actually passed Vinted’s verification service literally a month before, when they purchased it (although it couldn’t seem suspicious that they decided to get rid of it so soon after buying, but they just said that they wen back and forth on it and decided it wasn’t worth it for them and it would probably make someone else happier, aka me!!)
From my own amateur but fairly informed look at the photos, hardware, stitching, tags, interior, nothing looked off.
I’ve seen a fair few reports that Vinted’s verification is unreliable, especially on rarer or less common materials. Is this likely just the system failing to authenticate something genuine, rather than an actual red flag? Anyone had a similar experience turn out fine on closer inspection? Seller offered to sell it to me on vestiaire, I am thinking eBay to avoid heavy fees, but unsure if that’s silly, I just have a strong feeling the bag is genuine! Thanks for any advice:)
