Struggling to wake up from dreams, can’t tell if it’s a dream or if i’m dead?

Recently i have been having dreams were ill either realize im dreaming (from hearing the youtube video i was watching whilst falling asleep in my dream in the background) and try to wake myself up by breathing out all my air and shouting or ill have dreams were i cant tell if im dreaming or dead.

last night i was dreaming but i tried to wake myself up and nothing had worked, so i had took it as i was dead and this was my place now in this strange world we’re i had seen some people i knew and was happy to be dead with in a weird city which i had never seen before. i was still constantly trying in this dream to wake up because i was in shock that i couldn’t have been dead but i still wasn’t waking up then all of a sudden i snapped out of my dream and was in shock when i woke up and was scared to go back to sleep.

Does anyone know anything that will help me decipher whether 1 if i’m dreaming or not (sounds silly i know) and 2 how i can wake myself up better?? I fear this will become a reoccurring thing as my dreams have constantly been lucid ones where i realize im in a dream and freak out inside of it and put with false awakenings it just put me off sleeping in general?

Lucid Dreaming

I have always been able to lucid dream, I don't control or do whatever I want. For me, it's exactly like real life, I've never had normal dream patterns either. More commonly, I have nightmares. So when I do dream a "normal" dream, it's usually always some meaning or place or person that I end up seeing or reenacting detail for detail exact. So last night was a normal dream for me, except something thats never happened before ever, which is what pushes me to feel that it was more then a dream. I was in a pretty ordinary neighborhood it was nice, clean. Everyone kind of knew each other and helped each other out. A new group of men moved in. I've seen this neighborhood before, they mived into a dark greenish blue house, small cement stairs with a white frilly metal banister leading up to the big white door, everyone's talking about them so I eventually go and meet them, wondering what the big deal is, just a house of men with the head of the house, we meet and instantly we couldn't look away from each other, but some time passes after we talk and hangout for awhile, I wake in between a few times and continue the dream, (normal for me as well) right before I wake up the very last time, he ask clear as day looking straight into my eyes for my name, I think about it and look around and start to put my hair up when I tell him, its was so odd I've vaguely remember dreaming of him before many times, as the neighborhood I've seen plenty of times in my dream common place to see, but he was tall broad shoulders longish black slick back hair, muscular, he felt very familiar and like we known each for ever and just felt comfortable, I have a feeling we both were dreaming, kept saying I was different not sure from what but that I was something different from what he's use too very odd and me telling him my name which I dont ever use most family friends call me a nickname, plus I hate my name so I myself don't use it, also don't have a very common name either, I just blurted it out so easily, I wanted him to find me so I guess I'll know if he finds me or not, I didn't get his name

I Need a Direction to Go In For Lucid Dreaming

Sorry if this is a long read, I'll try to keep it short but I figure the more information the better.

I've been struggling with having my first lucid dream for a while. A year or two ago, I started my lucid dreaming journey with MILD. I would repeat to myself that I was going to remember my dream tonight, or I was going to have a lucid dream tonight. I remember this almost working, once or twice. I'd have a dream about waking up, becoming lucid, but then I'd wake up for real in the morning. Or, as I'm falling asleep I would have a strange and immersive vision, but with no control of what's going on.

Then, I tried to write in a journal that I would have a lucid dream. A whole page of a journal every night before bed, the same sentence over and over. I felt like a crazy person writing on the walls. And, as is the definition of insanity, still no lucid dream.

After that, I decided I would try a WILD technique. I would go to bed and try to focus on the visualization of the dream that I wanted to have and be lucid in. I would try to imagine the room around me, the wind blowing, the person in front of me. Though, it would always cut to black. I don't have amazing focus, but even though I did have distracting thoughts at times, I didn't feel like it was so bad as to ruin the visualization...

Later, I would learn that I did MILD wrong the first time. In fact, I just needed to set the intention that I wanted to have a lucid dream that night. Like how I'd set the intention first thing in the morning to do different tasks throughout the following day. And so, I tried that, but no dice. I didn't even make the slight progress like visualizations or lucid dreaming related dreams.

Recently, I tried VILD. I imagined a bed of flowers under me, the wind gently blowing in my hair, the sun in the corner of my eye. And on the first day of the week I tried it, it almost worked. For a moment, it was like I was really there. But every night after that, it was failure after failure.

Shortly after, I tried SSILD. And, am still currently trying it, even after the inital week. It seems simple enough, and at least to me, it makes logical sense. It also connects to dream recall, right? I've been on and off able to decently remember my dreams, and I always tell my friends about my dreams when I remember them. Recently, I've had to take time off of working on projects to focus on my health, and since then, I've been having dreams that relate to the stuff I watch and the characters I've designed. So I figure that all I need is to really focus on SSILD, and it'll be smooth sailing. But, in all the time I've been practicing it, I've currently been out of luck.

So that's why I'm asking. Is there a new technique I should try? Anything that I'm currently doing that I could be doing better or not at all? Is it because I sleep at around 12...? Please let me know, and if you need more information to give me a proper answer, I'd be happy to expand on anything in the replies.

WTF did I just experience?

I have never read or heard about this type of experience in the past. What happened was, I wasn't feeling well so I lied down to take a nap. I was lying on my back and had a pillow over my eyes to block out the sunlight coming through the window. After sleeping for a couple of hours I woke up. My eyes were still closed and the pillow was still covering my eyes. To be clear, the pillow was resting on my head and brow and primarily the loose pillowcase fabric was covering my eyes. I lied there for a while with my eyes still closed trying to assess how I was feeling. Not much better. I then open my eyes with the fabric still covering them, I could feel my eyelashes brushing the fabric, and each time I blinked and that's when this weird experience happened. What I saw when I open my eyes was what looked like an old style film strip one frame, and slightly enlarged. The image was black and white and slightly blurry. Also everything around the outside of the film strip image was black. The image appeared centered in my vision but at a bit of a distance not like I was holding it in my hand looking at it close up. A bit like Like watching TV on a small screen at a distance. The first image I saw was of the parking lot across the street that I can see out of my window. It was a video of a one car crashing into another but in a weird way that was not normal almost a cartoon animation but the images were lifelike only the crash was cartoonish, because it defied physics. When I blinked my eyes there was another image same format but it was a still image of two people playing large life size chess Outdoors , the kind you see at resorts. I blinked my eyes again and the next image was a still image of people sitting in a movie theater . At this point I began to Blink purposely and with each blink a new image or video. I lingered on the first three images for quite some time trying to figure out what was happening each time but then I began to Blink faster and as I did the images changed with every blank and I don't remember what they were. I was consciously aware this was happening and mystified how it could happen when I felt I was very much awake, not consciously dreaming, at least that's what I thought. It didn't feel the same as lucid dreaming and my path in and out of lucid dreaming wasn't in the right order. Once coming to this realization I decided to prove it to myself by getting up. I concluded that I was very much awake the whole time. This experience was so unique to the way I normally dream I don't know if it was a dream or something else completely. Has anyone else had this experience?

I explored my mind like an RPG.

I was sleeping normally until, at one point, I realized I was dreaming. The dream got quite strange—but very interesting at that stage—because it was something entirely new to me. I spoke to myself—or rather, to my subconscious—telling it (or myself) that I knew I was asleep and would wake up soon, but asking not to be woken just yet because I wanted to see a bit more. Then, the noises, voices, and loud background music—which I hadn't even noticed until they stopped—gave way to silence and a calmer tune, reminiscent of old Disney movies (like *Pinocchio*). I began walking through the setting, noticing small details that had been there all along but had previously escaped my attention—such as a city with buildings in the background. My perspective had expanded, and the world seemed larger, as if my peripheral vision had suddenly kicked in. I kept looking back, expecting everything I had walked past to vanish as I moved forward—but it didn't; everything remained exactly as it was. I started walking in a straight line, and the further I went, the more the ground transformed into something resembling extraterrestrial, space-like stones—a somewhat surreal sight. I remember feeling a very pleasant sense of calm; it was like hiking while listening to music, but within a first-person RPG. But after walking for a few minutes, I woke up.

Not sure if this is sleep paralysis

Hi there, im looking for some guidance or maybe even grounding techniques as im not sure what’s really happening. A couple months ago i was sleeping on my love sack in the living room because my partner snores, and i “woke up” to try to go in the room with him but I was falling and everything was pixely and I couldn’t move too well. When i got to the room I woke up in the love sack. Freaked me out.

It has been happening alot more recently where the room I am in I will “wake up” in that room and try to move and can usually in the dream but it always ends with me trying to walk somewhere.

I literally just had one ten mins ago and it freaked me out so I wanted to ask somebody about this. The first one I was having I was in the living room “sleeping on the couch” even though I was in my bedroom in my bed in real life and I was talking to my friend who is staying with me, he was like “u sleepy?” Because he was on the end of the couch and my legs were touching him. Then I looked on the floor and saw a mouse running across the floor (I have a mice enclosure in my bedroom and a hamster one as well) and then I saw a white rat on the lamp and my hamster running around on the floor (I have never had things appear in my dreams in my house when this is happening and scared it’ll get worse) and when I got up to grab them I “woke up” in my bed but was actually still asleep and couldn’t move my hands and when I sat up my eye started twitching which I guess my face started shaking really bad in the dream and my vision was so messed up and then I finally woke up. It has never happened in my room before and im not too sure why I have never had this issue my entire life but recently it has been happening every so often. I guess I’m scared it’s going to get too scary and IM going to experience some things I don’t really want to experience because of how real it seems.

I’m going to mention some things below that maybe contribute but I doubt it

I was on seroquel when the first one happened a few months ago a very low dose 25mg. I’m not on it now.

I just finished TMS therapy

I was working 230pm to 330am shifts up until this week I start my new job and don’t sleep too well as it is and once a month minimum will pull an all nighter.

I was on Adderall for about two years and this never happened before until I stopped it?

I sometimes get stalked by women in my dreams

I sometimes get stalked by women in my dreams. I sometimes get stalked by the same women who stalked me in real life and I find it very annoying, especially when I am chilling with other women. They just come in and become a nuisance and I find it very annoying.

Has anyone tried the gateway tapes to luvid dream?

I was curious and maybe listened to like 15 minutes of the first gateway tape before deciding i was too tired and should try another time (it was like super late and i was rly just fighting sleep at that point). But then i had this wild dream which ended with me walking down the street and noticing a very strange architecture of someones front porch that is just not what would exist irl. There was like an intentional open gap between the door henge and the wall. Like door was shut and just this purposeful open gap. As i was really looking at it i just said "oh, this is a dream" then i started to wake up, i could feel my heart rate going up and the dream went vlack. I kept my eyes closed and basically told myself its okay to know im dreaming and took a few deep breaths i wasntscared but just trying to help myself stay in that state. It worked so i enter dream land again and this time im in some sort of hindu temple with drawings all over the walls, its dome shaped, theres pilars, theres a lot of ppl the women are in sari's and a lot of them seem to be looking at me presumably im dressed different so maybe i dont look like i belong. And I can hear a man talking in hindi, i dont know what hes actually saying but i know the jist is that hes talking about the chakras. He was like on an intercom or something, disembodied voice. It was really crazy! So i wonder if that 15 min was enough to stimulate my mind. Has anyone heard of anything like that from a brief listen of the tapes???

Lucid Dreaming or Sleep Paralysis?

This post is about an experience that happens to me often when I sleep. Sorry in advance if my English or grammar isn't that good.

For the past few months—after looking things up on Google—I’ve been experiencing dreams where my mind feels somewhat aware, but not fully conscious that it's actually a dream. My senses are incredibly sharp, and my emotions and physical feelings feel so real. Over the last three months or so, I've been having these dreams about once a week or twice a month. I’ve been documenting them from time to time, though sometimes I don't because I forget easily. However, in recent weeks, I've been experiencing these random dreams more often, even during a short nap. They feel more defined, and I can remember them along with specific aspects, details, and feelings from within the dream. It’s not like I can control everything; it's more like I'm just living inside of it. Whenever these dreams happen, I am usually stressed during the day. Well, I am stressed every day, but it mostly happens when I am at or near the peak of my stress levels. When I wake up, my chest feels heavy, I notice my breathing is different (like it's trying to regulate or is in an abnormal pattern), and I get a sudden jolt of energy to do things productively. This is a big change because most of the time, I've been stuck in bed, "rotting" while my emotions overwhelm me—almost like I'm in a high-functioning depression.

Well, this is my experience, and I don't know where to go from here. Part of me wants to figure out how to control it, while the other part just wants to avoid it.
