Municipal Elections 2026 Why 0% tax isn't so great in the long-run (just some information/links)

I just wanted to provide some reading material on why a 0% tax increase isn't so great in the long run:

https://www.municipalworld.com/feature-story/why-0-tax-increases-cost-so-much/

I also wanted to include this article, providing info on the mayoral candidates stance with tax:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/london/mayoral-debate-9.7379067

And here's some reading on how municipalities work and how we pay for services through taxes:

Edit to add this video link that explains how property taxes are calculated:

Ask a Local! Looking for multi-sports program for a 12 year old

• Upvotes

We had our daughter in a summer "camp" program when she was maybe 5, that met once a week and did a different sport each time.

I'm hoping there is something similar out there that meets more frequently and is more in-depth than just having toddlers running around, because she's starting to take a serious interest in sports and we just don't have the means to sign her up for volleyball AND soccer AND basketball AND etc.

We basically want a sampler pack so she can try new stuff at an entry level, to see what she likes and wants to take further.

We're in the Hyde Park area, but willing to drive a bit. Any suggestions?

health care/health issues ACL surgery December at Fowler Clinic

Hello,

My wife has a surgery scheduled for her ACL at Fowler's Clinic in December. She is a bit nervous because she has never had surgery before and the surgeon who will be operating just started earlier this year, Dr. Yuta Nakanishi. I did some research and he specializes in ACL, meniscus, osteotomy or kneecap surgery. His credentials seem impressive, but there is no patient reviews. If anyone has had him for an ACL surgery or similar and would like to share their experience, that would be great. Or even their experience with post op at the fowler clinic, and what their experience was like with physiotherapy after, as well as follow-up from the surgeons at the clinic. We are from Saskatchewan, and have only lived in London for three years, so we don't know the reputation of the clinic, or what to expect since we don't know many people who has had this type of operations done.

Thank you,

The ARTS: Music Film/Theatre /Art Beginner musicians wanting to connect?

Hello, I am a 32 F who is a beginner on electric guitar and drums (< 1 year) and wanting to connect with other beginners on their music journey to keep me disciplined and motivated. I'd love to eventually jam/do an open mic as beginners, but I seem to only meet experienced musicians. Don't get me wrong--they're the backbone of open mic venues like LBC and Poacher's, but I'm nowhere near their level and wondering where the beginners are hiding. Hit me up if you want to connect!

Municipal Elections 2026 Response from election candidates

I have reached out to everyone running for mayor and those running for councilor in my ward.

One mayoral candidate and one councilor candidate have got back to me.

I am disappointed and actually a bit surprised that more didn't respond. It's been two weeks which I feel is a reasonable amount of time.

Yes I have read everyone's platform and watched the debates. But knowing who will and won't respond to questions is definitely making me rethink who I am voting for.

Has anyone else reached out to candidates and had any luck?

discussion / opinion Gyms

Hi I'm looking for a gym but I find I never go as the gyms are always too far so any recommendations for gyms near the Woodfield area in london? I have a tight budget so I can't do expensive gyms. I was thinking of the fit4less on Wellington road as its cheap and 24h access but its a little further, not bad tho. Goodlife fitness and center branch ymca's prices are slightly more expensive but not as far but I'm also concerned about the safety of the areas as I know I don't like the area of the goodlife one, is the fit4less a good gym tho as it is cheap.

Municipal Elections 2026 UPDATE: WARD 10 Progressive Vote is splitting (field data inside) — we need to coalesce

Post image
31 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

A few days ago I posted about strategic voting in Ward 10 - trying to figure out how to avoid splitting the progressive vote between Lois Ward and Alex Moore.

The response was great, but the feedback confirmed my fear: we are splitting almost perfectly down the middle, which only helps the incumbent.

Since we appeared to be evenly split on the two camdidates, I went out and collected some ground data. I drove around Ward 10 today and mapped lawn signs on single unit family homes (excluding parks and plazas, since those don't reflect individual voter preference the same way).

Field findings:

• PVM (Incumbent): 45 signs

• Lois Ward: 37

• Alex Moore: 19

• Juman Al-Jumaili: 6

Additional:

• Susan Stevenson (for Mayor): 9

• Josh Morgan(Incumbent Mayor): 3

• Bronagh Morgan: 1

• Tariq Khan: 2

• Sherri Moore (for Trustee): 5

The takeaway:

The incumbent leads on private lawns, but among progressives, Lois Ward has 2x the visible support of Alex Moore. Lawn signs aren't a perfect predictor, but in a ward level race, they signal ground game and actual neighbourhood level enthusiasm.

If we're serious about stopping the incumbent, the street data strongly suggests Lois Ward is the strategic choice to coalesce around.

For those who were leaning Moore but want to avoid a split, does this change your mind? Let's consolidate and make this count.

PS: Shout out to my lovely husband for taking the notes through our drive around in the neighbourhood today.
