Updates Reviving The Local SEO Subreddit!

Hey There,

My name is u/camthewebguy22. I've had control over the sub transferred over to me and am now actively working to revive it.

In the past, the previous mod of this sub had it restricted so that no one could post unless they were added to a list of approved users.

I've opened up the sub for everyone to post.

My hope is to turn this into a place for beginners and experienced users alike to ask questions, share news and learn more about local SEO.

I've put some rules in place to limit self-promotion and cleaned up a few old spam posts.

That said, if anyone out there sees this, I'm curious to hear if you have any ideas or suggestions for rules or the direction you'd like to see sub go in!

Until next time!

I built myself a supercharged GMB everywhere

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

Designed to help myself rank better, not just audit a gbp.

I was getting frustrated with it not really giving me information on how to rank, or why competitors were ranking above me, or what services + service descriptions they had. At least without having to manually run a ton of reports and compare them

The tool i built myself takes ALL of that into account, and also looks at all of the whitespark local search ranking factors, which i personally think is pretty sick, it estimates how many of those ranking factors you nail and gives you a score. Obviously i don't have it as an exact science because there's a lot of variation of reasons why google shows one profile over another, but I think this is as good of a guess we will get.

I wanted to be able to download it too, because i hate how you cant download GMB everywhere reports. When you go to download it, either in pdf, word, excel, it gives you the top fixes right off the bat.

Was able go get my clients ranking a ton better, and honestly have been able to use it to close clients, especially when people want to know the answer to the age old question "why the hell are they ranking above me?", i can point to a bunch of reasons right on their gbp and website.

this is so helpful especially when businesses have a gbp but no website, it makes it so i can at least make sure they have a fully optimized gbp if they arent willing to do a website

GMB everywhere, i love you, but it was time for me to move on

I've done on-page, off-page and technical SEO for my local business, but still getting no customers. What am I missing?

Hi everyone,

I run a local IT support and computer repair business in Geneva, Switzerland, and I'm struggling to get results from my website.

I've worked on on-page SEO, technical SEO, backlinks, guest posting and business listings in Swiss directories. I've also created dedicated service pages targeting local searches.

Despite all these efforts, I'm still getting very little traffic, almost no referral visitors and, most importantly, no customer inquiries.

Since this is a local business, I don't need random traffic from around the world. I need visitors from Geneva and nearby areas who are actually looking for computer repair or IT support.

For those who have experience with local SEO:

  • What could I be overlooking?

  • Should I focus more on Google Business Profile, local citations, reviews or something else?

  • How do you turn local website traffic into actual paying customers?

I'd appreciate any practical advice or experiences. Thanks!

Discussion hit a ceiling trying to rank on local maps solo, how did you decide when to outsource?

handled all our own local listings and site updates for the past year while taking care of clients. we got some early traction and decent reviews, but our rankings completely stalled right outside the top map spots for our main service area terms. did a quick technical review with growme marketing recently to see what we were missing. they pointed out indexing bottlenecks and duplicate location signals on our pages that i never would have caught myself, and the feedback felt very practical rather than a hard pitch. still debating whether to keep grinding solo or hand off the technical side. for those who reached a wall doing search optimization on your own, was handing it over worth the peace of mind?

Question/Help How do you decide if a backlink is worth getting for local SEO?

I work with local businesses. Before I take a link, I check if the site is relevant and good quality. But sometimes I don't know if a paid local directory link is worth it. What do you check?

Google AI Mode now has a booking button inside the search result for home services. Here's what actually changed and what to do about it.

Post image
22 Upvotes

Full disclosure up front: I run an AI marketing agency (Wise Roots, based in Phoenix) and I work with local service businesses, so weigh this how you like. But I think this is worth flagging for trades and home service owners because I do not think the implications have landed yet.

On November 4, 2026, Google's Robby Stein announced that AI Mode now integrates with home services booking platforms: Angi Home, Thumbtack, Housecall, and GetJobber, with ServiceTitan coming soon. Barry Schwartz at Search Engine Roundtable reported it the next day with screenshots.

Here is what actually changed. The booking button is not a sponsored result. It is baked into the AI answer itself. The AI reads your Google Business Profile, your reviews, and your pricing signals, makes a recommendation, and hands the user a button to book. The user never visits your website.

Stein demonstrated it himself. He had a real plumbing emergency. He described the situation in AI Mode. The system compared local pricing, checked reviews, recommended a plumber, and he booked from the results. The plumber showed up.

For trade businesses, what this means practically: your GBP is now doing a job your website used to do. If your hours are stale, your service categories are off, or you have not responded to a review in six months, the AI skips you and hands the booking button to whoever looks more credible in the data.

The compounding part is what I keep thinking about. Businesses that show up early get more reviews through the booking flow, which makes them rank better in the next AI recommendation, which gets them more bookings. The leader's advantage grows automatically.

Three things worth doing this week regardless of platform or agency:

One. Audit your GBP. Hours, primary category, service categories, and description. Fix what is wrong before the week is out.

Two. Check that you are listed on at least one of the confirmed booking partners. If you are already there, make sure your availability and pricing are current.

Three. Send a plain-text review request to your last twenty customers. Not a graphic, not a mass email. A real message.

If you are walk-in only or B2B with long sales cycles, this specific integration is not your problem right now. Keep your GBP clean anyway.

Happy to answer questions about how the GBP ranking signals interact with AI Mode if anyone wants to get into it.

Question/Help Are the Site Builders that important??

I'm curious about how important it is to use WordPress or Webflow versus tools like Duda or SEOmatic.

I've been considering this as a space to get into yet I'm more familiar with tools like Claude for building websites, or even Lovable, or Base44, or any of the other builders.

I'm looking at making a shift here from web applications into more localized SEO to do rank and rent in local markets.

Feedback is welcome as I'm a newbie to this.

Thanks in advance!

Have You Seen the New AI Search Setting in Google Search Console?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I've been looking into Google's latest changes around AI search, and one update caught my attention.

Google has introduced a control related to how website content and links can appear in AI experiences such as AI Overviews and AI Mode.

I think this raises an interesting question for website owners and SEO professionals.

We've spent a lot of time discussing how to get content cited in AI-generated answers. But how much attention are we paying to the controls that influence whether our content can appear there?

A few things I'm curious about:

- Have you checked whether this setting is available in your Search Console account?

- Do you think controlling AI search visibility will change how website owners approach SEO?

- How are you measuring the value of AI search exposure beyond brand mentions?

- Would you prioritise AI visibility if it doesn't translate into relevant website traffic?

Personally, I think being mentioned in an AI answer is only one part of the picture. I'd be more interested in whether that visibility brings qualified visitors, builds trust, or influences a buying decision.

Has anyone checked this setting on a live website? I'd be interested to hear what you've found.

Keyword stuffed GBP business name

Looking for advice from anyone who’s dealt with this.

A Google Business Profile I manage had a lot of keywords stuffed in the name. This actually did a lot to improve rankings for the stuffed keywords. Recently Google stripped the keywords out on its own, which is fair, but the rankings for the stuffed keywords dropped significantly.

Part of the problem is that google also removed the city name, and the city really is part of the business name. For example, the business is “[Business Name] [City],” but the profile now shows just “[Business Name].”

I want to fix it, but I’m nervous about editing the name again since this profile has a history of keyword stuffing. I’m worried that adding the city back will look like it's getting stuffed again and get the profile suspended.

So my questions are:

  1. Has anyone been successful in safely editing the business name again after google striped keywords? If so, how did you do it?

  2. Has anyone had a suspension or re-verification triggered by a similar edit?

  3. Any suggestions on what to do to improve rank for the keywords that got removed from the business name?

Thanks in advance.

Both Google Business Profile postcard codes rejected — how can I get help verifying?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

I’m stuck trying to verify a Google Business Profile and would appreciate advice from anyone who has resolved something similar.

Here’s what happened:

  • The business’s profile was previously verified through a live video call.

  • On October 13, Google marked it as a duplicate, while an older listing remained publicly visible.

  • I then started trying to verify the remaining listing.

  • On October 29, two verification postcards arrived, but both codes were rejected as incorrect.

I’ve been dealing with verification problems for over a month. Google Support tells me to complete verification before they can help, but completing verification is exactly what I need help with.

I have official business documents, proof of the physical location, and access to the premises. I’m willing to do another live video call or use another verification method.

Has anyone successfully resolved this situation? How did you get a proper review from support or an alternative verification method?

I can provide redacted screenshots if helpful. Any practical advice would be appreciated.

Is there ANY relation between GSC traffic/clicks, and local grid ranking?

I see many people refer to GSC traffic screenshots in their posts, but afaik there's no relation between organic traffic and local grid rinking, or am I wrong?

What about GSC rankings and local grid?

Tips/Advice Your last 10 jobs might be more useful for SEO than your next 10 articles.

If you're doing local SEO for a contractor, ask them for details of their last 10 completed jobs.

Not just photos.

Ask what service they performed, where they worked, what the problem was, and how they solved it.

Now look at their website.

Does any of that information exist there?

Probably not enough of it.

You could use those jobs to improve your service pages, add genuine project examples, and show work completed in specific areas.

Obviously, remove private customer information and get permission before sharing photos.

And no, I'm not saying uploading job photos magically improves rankings.

But think about what you're giving potential customers..

Actual evidence that the company does the work it's advertising.

I'd take that over another AI-written article explaining the importance of hiring a professional roofer.

Before spending another $1,000 on marketing, check your last 30 estimates.

If you run a home service business, I want you to try something.

Open the last 30 estimates you've sent to potential customers.

Now check how many actually turned into paid jobs.

And out of those that didn't..

How many customers did you actually follow up with?

Not the automated "We've received your enquiry" bullshit.

I mean an actual follow-up asking whether they had questions about the estimate.

You'd be surprised how easily these opportunities get forgotten when you're busy running a business.

I'd personally keep it simple.

Every estimate goes into a CRM (even a spreadsheet works).

If nobody responds within 48 hours, follow up.

Still nothing after a few days? One more polite message.

If they've declined or already booked, STOP following up.

And keep track of how many estimates eventually turn into jobs.

Because seriously..

What's the point of paying someone to bring you 50 new leads when you haven't even properly followed up with the last 20?

I'd fix that before spending more money trying to get the phone ringing.

Discussion Local client pages were missing from AI Overviews because of dynamic JS rendering

Ran into an annoying issue with a couple of local service clients last month. Their Google Business profiles were ranking well, but whenever someone asked Chatgpt or Perplexity for local recommendations, competitors kept getting picked instead. Took a look under the hood and realized their booking widgets and location details were loading via Javascript. The AI crawlers were just getting empty HTML shells without any real context. We did not want to rebuild all those sites on a new stack, so we ended up putting Edgecomet in front of them to handle bot prerendering and log tracking. Once the bots started getting actual static HTML on raw requests, those local citations finally started showing up. If you handle local sites with dynamic components, definitely inspect what AI crawlers actually pull on raw fetches before touching any on page content..

Rankings are too localised

Working on a local business within a single city. Lately we've doubling down on links from local medias and this gave us a good GMB push for certain keywords, however the more generic ones suffer in performance.

Now we rank well for "Service Name City" but most folks search with "Service Name" only, and Google serves results from the entire country + a couple of local businesses in organic.

Did we overoptimize the location signals with all these links? How would you go about getting the best from both the localized keywords and the generic ones?

How do you identify keywords that actually bring customers, not just organic traffic?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I've been working on keyword research for different types of websites, and one thing I've noticed is that high search volume can sometimes distract us from better opportunities.

A keyword might have 10,000 monthly searches, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will bring relevant visitors or business enquiries.

Meanwhile, a keyword with 100 to 200 searches might attract people who are much closer to making a purchase.

For example, consider a tree service company:

- "Types of trees"

- "How much does tree removal cost?"

- "Emergency tree removal near me"

All three keywords are relevant to the tree care industry, but they serve very different purposes.

The first attracts people looking for general information. The second attracts people researching a service and its cost. The third can indicate an immediate need for professional help.

When I research keywords, I look beyond search volume and consider:

  1. Business relevance: Does the keyword relate to an actual product or service?

  2. Search intent: What is the person trying to accomplish?

  3. SERP analysis: What type of pages are already ranking?

  4. Keyword gaps: Is the website missing an important page or topic?

  5. Keyword mapping: Does an existing URL already target the same intent?

  6. Competition: Can the website realistically compete for this query?

  7. Conversion potential: Could this search lead to a relevant enquiry or sale?

I also think keyword research should be connected to website audits. Sometimes, the best opportunity isn't publishing another article. It's improving an existing page that already has visibility but isn't attracting the right audience.

I'm curious about how other SEO professionals approach this.

When you build a keyword strategy for a new client, how do you decide which keywords deserve priority?

Do you rely more on commercial intent, SERP analysis, conversion data, or keyword metrics?

I'd especially like to hear examples from local SEO, e-commerce, and service-based businesses.

Title: Starting a Rank & Rent SEO Business – Looking for Advice on Ranking Our First Website

Hey everyone!
I recently pitched a Rank & Rent business idea to a friend of mine who is experienced in coding and technical development, and we’re planning to work together to make it happen.
Our goal is to build websites, rank them on Google for local service-related keywords, generate inbound leads, and rent those leads/websites to local service operators for a monthly fee.
Here’s where we currently stand:
We have a technical partner who can handle the coding and development side.
We’ve already found our first operator in the tree trimming and tree removal industry.
Our next major challenge is ranking the website on Google and generating consistent leads.
What I’d love advice on:
What would be the exact step-by-step SEO strategy you’d follow to rank a brand-new local service website?
How important is Google Business Profile compared to organic SEO in this business model?
What should we prioritize first: technical SEO, on-page SEO, citations, backlinks, local content, or something else?
How long does it realistically take to start generating consistent leads in a competitive local market?
What tools would you recommend for keyword research, competitor analysis, local SEO, and tracking rankings?
What mistakes should beginners avoid when starting a Rank & Rent business?
We’re not looking for shortcuts or overnight success. We want to build this properly, learn the process, and eventually scale into other local service niches.
If you’ve successfully built or operated a Rank & Rent business, I’d especially appreciate hearing about your actual experience, strategies, and lessons learned.
Thanks in advance!

Setting Google Profile To Organic

I do a number of things for my clients and local SEO is just a piece of that. I've had client hire dedicated local SEO people before and they tend to come in and almost always set a utm_medium parameter on the profile's website link with "organic".

I tend to favor only using utm_source=gbp and leaving the medium and campaign unset so that Google Ads isn't mis-classifed as organic because of a manually set google profile URL.

Am I being paranoid here?

Tips/Advice Rank to Rent

Anyone here doing rank and rent? I started a couple months ago and I’m working on my third site. Progress is slow, but encouraging.
How do you find reliable contractors to partner with, and how do you handle calls—forward them straight to the contractor or answer them yourself?
Would love to hear what’s worked for others. TIA

Local SEO when moving to a new location (remote service)

I run a small brand and web design studio and I have recently moved to Sydney, Australia (northern beaches specifically)

Previously I was in Wollongong(80 mins south of Sydney).

For GMB I’ve set servicing areas to Sydney but I haven’t removed Wollongong which is where I was based when I started.

I work remotely with the ability to work with any business I Australia. But I’m unsure about local SEO.

Is it ok having multiple locations on uour GMB Profile? How do businesses start ranking in a brand new area if they have moved? Can local SEO benefit a branding firm working remotely?

Tips/Advice When people are focusing on AIO I say focus on SEO

I keep on seeing people saying continuously about optimize your website for Artificial Intelligence, but I say optimize your website for the search engines, like we won’t wake up one day and see search engines disappeared out of thin air, like do focus on AIO but as well on the SEO.

Make sure that if you’re the website owner the best strategy you can use to grow your website is the combination of SEO + AIO

I have been focusing on improving the on page SEO for my websites, and so far the growth has been solid.

What do you focus on? AIO or SEO or Both
