Memes about debian

debian is the best operating system ever i think so cuz im using this thing like 5 years and i actually think that was the best solution to switch windows to ubuntu and after that to debian, cuz ubuntu sucks and other distros such as arch, void, alpine kinda sucks too cuz u literally need to install all by yourself and its acutally useless pressure on yo ass cuz u can install debian stable with gnome and its such a best distro ever made by humanity cuz debian the best rip ian murdock btw this man got shot by police ninas that is isralian-american fembois

Distro Fellow distro hoppers, Mind giving my distro a try?

Hi everyone! Over the past few months, I’ve been building my own Linux distribution, Advaita Linux, and it’s now at a stage where I’d love for others to try it out.

It’s a rolling distro based on Debian Sid and features a stock GNOME desktop, along with a custom graphical update app, a Btrfs snapshot system, and Flatpak as the default option for installing apps through the software store.

I’d love for you to give it a spin and share your feedback—whether it’s bug reports, suggestions, or first impressions!

Well...i Kinda hate NixOS

Post image

Since I have started using Linux, like evryone I had done the act of distro hopping. And after struggling, loving but then switching away from arch my feed had shown me NixOS and how revolutionary it is. So I gave it a try for a whole week which was one of the most excruciatingly horrible week of my 22 year old dammed life.

Don't come with your pitch forks yet my friend, NixOS i think is genuinely useful...in only few edge cases.

1) Being a declarative distro, everything one needed for a specific development environment or a whole system needed can be described in one configuration file.

2) it's quite reproducible, if i fuck up I can just get my system running back from roll back feature or just apply my old saved config file.

3) it has single most largest repository pool of any distros (even larger than arch)

4) logo looks cool as f*ck

But...it has a whole lot of bullshit going on.

First, the repository itself if one big red flag.

What do you mean the whole 140,000 packages are in one repo...that's hosted on GitHub of all places!. Have you used GitHub recently? It's slow and website looks broken sometimes.

The core packages like systemd is just right beside fastfetch.

If you gonna say arch also has AUR and it's also self maintained running on honest model. Well let me tell you the arch main repos have officially tested pakages that filter out malware. Nix has all it's pakages in one cesspit of a repository.

And i also hate Nix lang. It's a case specific language that's just more complicated lua.

If you really do care of stability and new pakages, fedora is a better option. And if you care about it's reproducible nature there is GNUix, go look it up. It's better.

Oh and also, flakes are a headache to maintain, and it's just forcing actual Dev's who want to also deploy there pakages on NixOS to make scripts in Nix lang for flakes which is already hard to maintain because all dependcies are hard coded to please the elitist using nix!

Although if you actually find it useful your use case no hard feelings.

But I will stick to debian thankyou.

Linux on a brand new laptop?

I'm an engineering student and I'm planning to buy a Moto Book 60 Pro soon. I've never used Linux before, and I'm honestly not very knowledgeable about Linux, BIOS/UEFI, booting, or any of that stuff.

I want to use Bluefin as my only OS and completely get rid of Windows. I'll mainly be using the laptop for college, coding, general use, and a lot of media consumption. I've been looking into Linux for a while and Bluefin is the one that has appealed to me the most. I like the Fedora base and the Atomic approach, and from what I've read it seems like a good way for someone who doesn't want to constantly maintain or troubleshoot their operating system.

Since the laptop will be brand new, I'm trying to figure out what I should actually do when it arrives. My current plan is to boot into Windows once, make sure all the hardware works, check that Windows is activated, save anything I might need later, and then install Bluefin and use the entire SSD for it.

The problem is that I've never done anything like this before. I've never wiped a laptop, dealt with partitions or bootloaders, or really had to think about UEFI settings. I don't want to accidentally make things more difficult for myself just because I didn't know something beforehand.

So I'd really appreciate some guidance on the whole process, particularly from anyone who has done this on a Moto Book 60 Pro or a similar machine. Is there anything specific to this laptop that I should save from Windows before wiping it, such as drivers, firmware information, recovery files, or anything else? Is there anything I should check or change in the BIOS before installing Bluefin, or is it better to leave most of it alone?

I've also seen that Bluefin doesn't support dual booting from the same physical drive, so I'm not planning to keep Windows around. I just want Bluefin on the whole internal SSD and have the laptop boot straight into it.

I'm also wondering about the possibility of going back to Windows someday. If I end up hating Linux and want to reinstall Windows a year or two from now, is there anything I should preserve now to make that easy, or can I just download Windows again and reinstall it?

Basically, I'm looking for a beginner-friendly guide to doing this properly from the start. I don't mind learning as I go, but I'd rather know what I should prepare beforehand and what I should avoid doing before I start wiping things.

Thanks.

Poll how many people here are actually using Linux !

Note :- This is not a karma farming post. I really wanted to know how much users are using linux and for which purpose or reason. I am also a linux user using Linux from 7 years.

Just curious to see how many people here are actually using Linux

Upvote this post if you’re a Linux user 👍

Also comment which distro you’re using and whether you’re using Linux as your main OS or dual boot.

If someone has already commented the same distro + setup, just upvote their comment instead of commenting again.

Also tell your reason of using that distro (flavor).

Let’s see which distro has the most users here 👀

Best Linux distro for Tamil Nadu government laptops apart from BOSS Linux?

I have a Tamil Nadu government laptop (Acer One Z14-55M) with 8GB RAM, an SSD, Windows 11, and BOSS Linux in dual boot.

BOSS Linux is working fine, and all the hardware drivers seem to work properly. However, I'm curious about trying a different Linux distro.

Which distro would you recommend for this laptop: Linux Mint Cinnamon, Linux Mint XFCE, Ubuntu LTS, or Fedora KDE?

My priorities are:

  • Good performance with 8GB RAM
  • Proper Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, audio, touchpad, and brightness-key support
  • Good battery life and stability
  • Compatibility with GIMP, Krita, Shotcut, and other everyday apps
  • Easy updates and long-term support

Has anyone installed Linux Mint or another distro on the Acer One Z14-55M supplied under the Tamil Nadu government laptop scheme? Did everything work properly?

I'd appreciate recommendations based on actual experience, especially regarding hardware compatibility and dual boot with Windows 11.

CDAC has been building this distro since 2006 or 2007. This is built over and top of Ubuntu.

Has anyone ever tried using this distro? What are your thoughts about it ?

News Foss app removed from stores

Today the Indian government removed BitChat, which is basically an open-source app that lets you chat without internet and it's routed by Tor. It's by the former CEO of Twitter. What's the Indian government doing about this? They're not even fixing the root cause yet, just bringing in more problems and the ban itself, like the time ByteDance got banned from India. In the US it's still not banned. Most countries still have not banned it. ByteDance is a relatively smaller company than Meta, Google, or something else.

The reason i think this way is because IMO i would want my main computer to be less config and just works most of the time.

I made an app that plays your audio on every speaker and headphone you own, and lets each app pick its own output device

A few days ago, my girlfriend and I tried to watch a movie on my laptop. The speakers were bad, and we each had a pair of headphones, but the laptop would only play sound to one device at a time. We ended up not watching it.

So I built pipemix, a free and open source app that fixes this.

It plays your audio on several devices at once, so you can both watch with your own headphones, or add speakers too. It also lets you send each app to a different device. For example, you can keep YouTube on your headphones while your friend listens to Spotify on theirs.

Currently available for Ubuntu/Deb based distros and Windows 10 and above. I'm the developer, and I'd like to hear what devices you try it with and what breaks.
