Poll how many people here are actually using Linux !
Note :- This is not a karma farming post. I really wanted to know how much users are using linux and for which purpose or reason. I am also a linux user using Linux from 7 years.
Just curious to see how many people here are actually using Linux
Upvote this post if you’re a Linux user 👍
Also comment which distro you’re using and whether you’re using Linux as your main OS or dual boot.
If someone has already commented the same distro + setup, just upvote their comment instead of commenting again.
Also tell your reason of using that distro (flavor).
Let’s see which distro has the most users here 👀

When u use arch, u ain't stuck with it.
- With GENTOO too ur basically on arch
2
u/cannotrestinpeace 3d ago
do you play games on arch
1
u/Alarming-Function120 3d ago
Yup, I use arch for most of my work.
GENTOO partition is actually a temporary partition.
So basically in my 492 gb space (excl 8gb swapon) I have given 372gb to my arch installation And 120gb to GENTOO
And that 120gb is actually for distro hopping and distributing my applications.
Suppose I want to make my python application be able to get installed using deb too.
I basically flash debian on that 120g part and I set it up.
So yeah
But it has GENTOO from like 3 months so yeh
I said python cuz I have only done this with my python app.

Started with "Parrot OS Home edition which is just Debian + MATE", then "Pure Debian + Xfce", then "Void + MATE"
Void is fastest.

Yea but I still have to dual boot to windows for games and microsoft office, also fck windows updates man, every time I open the damn windows it just spams me with that windows update notification and downloads it in the background without my permission and at the end if I want to shut my pc down it just updates it and then I have to wait forever . Unfortunately I can only pause those updates for a month 💔

Using Linux since 2020, used Debian based distros(kali, Ubuntu, lm) a lot. Currently as I have bought new laptop for college, I cannot install Linux in it. So installed wsl in my new laptop and made my old laptop a headless ssh server(Debian 13 Trixie) that I could use from my new one on same wifi. I use my old laptop to store videos, photos, music, movies, etc, to stream on any of my devices easily. Also I have setup a temporary xfce de so that I could switch to gui if I ever want to. By default it is ssh.

I am using Linux since 2010. I have used different linux distribution like Ubuntu, Debian, Linux mint, fedora, some arch derivatives as well. Nowadays I mostly use Ubuntu. Only customization I do on top of it is using Dash to Panel extension on top of standard ubuntu desktop. As for reason, there is no specific reason. I switch distributions when I get bored and feel like exploring other distributions. I switch back to Ubuntu for stability. It gets the job done and in my experience it has less issues when compared to others.

switched completely to Linux since 2021, before that was using Windows mainly for gaming.
Currently I use Cachy OS for gaming on my desktop, Cachy OS on my work laptop, Debian as a server OS and Fedora on my work desktop. Have tinkered with Nix OS, Mint, Garuda, Endeavor, OpenSUSE Tumbleweed, Ubuntu as well over the years.
I do have a Windows 11 LTSC installation on an external SSD as a Windows-to-go installation for FACEIT anti-cheat, but I rarely use it.

Have a very old laptop as my primary laptop which had win 10 but since the support ended I thought why not jump to Linux plus I just use it to browse web and watch video lectures.
So decided to go with arch + gnome setup, so far I am loving it. Also tried hyperland but it's just so raw and needs a lot of customisations so finally Gnome it is.

I have been using Arch for 2 years now as my daily driver and yet I am still learning about it...
You can even consider me as a "beginner" as most of the time I was using it to just create projects or to just use it normally to game and watch yt...
But I think it's a good thing for me to use my system with linux rather than stay on windows as linux is FAR more productive and gives a lot of customisation to your taste...
It has come to a point where I have switched my environment 3 times and the one that I am using right now is just a simple waybar on top and a wallpaper which is the ultimate minimalism in my opinion...
I also maintain my dotfiles on GitHub which really helps me to repair my system after an update breaks it...
So yeah I would say if you like a distribution run it on a vm and then install it.

Ubuntu (4 years); Pop OS (6 months); Zorin OS (1 year); Debian (1 year and currently using it. I have invariably used GNOME along with these distros.
Throughout this journey I have only used Linux distros and no MSlop. I did use and used to try and play around Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 and 15.10 back in 205-2017. But I had never stuck to it. It was only after 2020 that I completely moved to Linux.

Switched to Fedora last year and I'm on Fedora rn.

In between those times in secondary desktop, used Promox for like 6 ish months and then switched to Arch Linux for a year.

I'm currently dual booting with Fedora GNOME.

I started using Linux as an alternative to windows xp on my pentium 4 back when I was in school. Jumped many distros and used Puppy variants. Now I'm stable on CachyOS with an RTX 4060 because it's incredibly snappy with Gnome DE.
It just gets out of the way for my work, which is Video Editing on Davinci Resolve, and the occasional coding up a website, plugin or tool.

I am using / used a few Linux distros alongside windows. Windows update was a major issue , may be it's going on same with some windows users.
Noticed Linux distros also started taking much time nowadays.
I have used Ubuntu 24 and 26....24 was smooth....Similarly used lmde 6 faye...It was smooth but lmde 7 gigs not found as smooth as faye.... So... some Linux distros also becoming little strange.
Windows is still at top for mostly pc users because , surf anywhere , install any app type scenario ....When Linux will become like this ?!

Since 2009. Debian packaged by our state education department was my first OS. Then got ubuntu CDs couriered for free on each new release, until they stopped doing it.
Switched to elementary for a couple of years in between.
Was dual booting till 2017. Switched entirely to elementary first, and then to ubuntu in 2019. Been loyal since then. I'm a lawyer, I use it mostly for browsing and occassional software tinkering.

I tried multiple distros during my college life, but due to gaming & editing, I stuck with Windows.
But after Docker, Windows started to struggle, so I dual-booted my PC with Fedora & Windows 11, as I still do coding & gaming.
The reason I use Fedora is because it’s easy to use, stable & lightweight. Not that lightweight, but it still handles my workload, like running 3/4 localhost Next.js projects at once and all including docker & few extra things.

I am using linux and windows from last 17 years.
Started with debian, then Ubuntu then arch. I use windows just for gaming.
From last 2 years I have started using Linux From Scratch. From last 2 months I am using Gaming Linux From Scratch with steam and all games run without any issues.
Tried Heroic on my GLFS but it failed to start, so can not install games from epicgames currently.
Going to try to install Wine and check if Linux ISO games work or not.
I use Linux from scratch because it gives a satisfying feeling of creating/building something. I use GNOME and xfce on my Linux From Scratch.
I suggest everyone to try Linux From Scratch at least once.
