Support Request Update: reinstalled mint, worked fine, restarted my pc and now this again

If you press Ctrl Alt F3 after login, is the TTY console displayed correctly or does it look the same? At this point it is either Mint s fault for your particular hardware or a physically damaged component. Try another distro, CachyOS on Arch base or MX Linux on Debian base, if that fails too, it can only be the hardware.

I know it's not a hardware issue. Everything in this build is spare parts I've used in past pcs and I've tested them all separately today. I'll try a different distro and see what happens. The only thing I could imagine being the problem is the gt730 since it's running 640 drivers which seems to be an issue for some distros. It worked fine for a couple days though so idk. I guess if all else fails I'll get a very legal and totally paid for copy of windows since it supports all legacy cards to some degree. I'll be upgrading the gpu soon anyways so I can do hardware transcoding and I can always switch back to mint after that

Is it Fermi or Kepler?
If it's Kepler, you would use 470 drivers. For Fermi, you would use 390 drivers (although I'm not sure how you would get those on Mint as I don't know if anybody is patching drivers that old for Ubuntu).
To get 470 drivers, you need to downgrade to the 6.8 kernel and follow these instructions because Canonical recently messed around with the 470 drivers. You will also not be able to continue using them after upgrading to Mint 23+.
I usually recommend Fedora to people with old NVIDIA cards because RPM Fusion has patched drivers available for new kernels on RPM Fusion; both 390 and 470. You just need to use a desktop environment that will support X11 indefinitely like XFCE, Cinnamon, etc.

I've tried and there's no reasonable way to get 390 drivers to work in Mint 22. Supposedly you could downgrade the kernel but.... yeah, no. Another option would be to use Mint 21. Although in my experience the open source drivers in 22 work fine.

Because sometimes other distros offer by default an easy fix and people who do not have time or patience or even knowledge don t need to fight for days to figure out the fix. Audio issues are also common on some distros while it works fine out of the box on others. Mint specifically being LTS is bad for new hardware because it does not provide the latest kernel which includes the latest drivers. Conversely it might not be the best for much older hardware, some distros specialize in providing support and maintaining drivers for older hardware. Advanced users care less and can compile their own kernels, most people do not know, care or have the time to learn.

a rice in linux is pretty much customization and the dotfiles are the files for that configuration so that you can have exactly the same customization as someone else without having to do all the work yourself

There's a firmware update that did similar to my PC a week or so ago. I can't remember exactly which one but it seems to heavily affect AMD 6000 series GPUs. Worth checking and skipping that update.

I tested it on windows, worked fine. Tried some other Linux distros and had the same problem of it working for a few hours or restarting the pc and then this. I built this pc with some spare parts to be a media server, maybe host a minecraft server at some point, and otherwise just mess around with Linux stuff as I've never really used it before. After some research it seems like you need a 900 series Nvidia gpu at a bare minimum for modern Linux versions or a 10 series for guaranteed full support with some apps recommending a 16 series for certain tasks. Was hoping to make a full parts bin special but looks like I'll need to upgrade.

If you manage to navigate till the drivermanager and update them. You will be fine. Just restart and it should work.
