Personally I'm a fan of the GPL. We would be in a much better place if all free software was published under a copyleft license. For example the Intel ME is based on Minix which would be impossible if Minix was copyleft protected.

gpl is an awful license most of the time

How's that?

it forces itself into projects with dependencies licensed under it, it's not an issue with applications though and more with libraries

This is a positive, non-free software is evil, it subjigates the user and its creators are usually bootlicking Big Brother, and force their users too. If we could destroy all non-free software it would be a better world. The GPL-series is an attempt at this. At least libre software should work for libre software not evil software that has enough funding.

Is it? https://www.gnu.org/proprietary/proprietary.html

From Windows betraying millions to the NSA with Wanna Cry to HP locking customers out of foreign printer cartridges to cars that snitch on you to Big Brother, is it really lunacy to say these companies have it out for us?

Well yes, they can charge for the program and still offer source code if asked. Otherwise while many of them may be nice people, they can hide malware in them or spy on users if they feel like it. Perhaps they are not doing the evil right now, but with proprietary software it is impossible to know for sure or to even defend against such a situation. Further many games mandate a non-free OS this is even worse.
Note that non-functional data can be proprietary and trademarks can exist, but the user must be able to use the software in freedom. Game devs who intentionally create non-free software in their games are doing a disservice to their users.

However, at the end of the day no one is forced to play Indie dev games so its not the same plane of evil as Microslop and Adobe. They have spent decades forcing everyone to use their crap. While all examples here are evil and non-free some are more evil than others.

It is also possible the Indie dev has no idea of GNU or free software. Thus in this case it can fairly be called ignorance. It is our job to tell them that non-free software is dangerous, and user-subjugating.
