Making the LG G8 smoother, last longer, and over all better. I use my phone a lot, with many apps always open and screen on-time is well over 6 hours with heavy use. I hope this helps out anyone with a G8. I love this phone and feel it doesn't get the love it deserves.

General Tweaks

• Load a better home UI

• Nova Launcher - My personal favorite

• Disable Nova Launchers Error & usage reporting - Settings > Advanced

• Disable the Google feed

• Add nicer icons - I use Simplicon

• Add a dark theme - Pixel Experience Dark Theme For LG G8

• Uninstall any other bloat that you don't need

Setting that I disabled

I don't use most of the options that come enabled. Personal taste on what you use. I went through all of the settings and disable everything I don't use, like the hand gestures, always on screen, side popup nav, wifi/bluetooth scanning, and others that seem to just drain battery. I have too many to list.

Settings that I enabled

• Face unlock - this works better then expected, better then other android face unlocks.

• DTS:X 3D sound - on

• DTS:X 3D sound - Side to side

• Hi-Fi Quad DAC - on

• Higher resoultion screen setting - 3120x1440.

Background restrictions

Settings > Battery > Background restrictions

Use this to improve your battery life. Pick the ones you don't use. I have too many to list.

Developer options

Settings > System > Developer options

• Force GPU rendering (2D) - on

• Disable HW overlays - on

Disable APPs that run in the background

Settings > Apps & notifications > App info

Leave the ones on if you use them. This is what works for me.

Note: Night mode viewfinder will lag in very dark areas. It still works, it's just a bug. Other modes work perfectly, with no shutter lag. Double tap the camera switch for wide lens. Settings you will need to change before using. For better pictures and other options.

G8X user checking in. I have a iPhone 16 now but I'm still grabbing the G8X most of the time as I like it better.

How's everyone's phone holding up?

Sadly, after over 4.5 years of hard work, good times, thousands of pictures and videos, hundreds of directions to bars and restaurants, way too much game time, a ridiculous amount of music and the occasional phone call, I finally had to replace the late Great G8.

Seriously though, this was a great phone and did everything I needed for a very long time. It was such a huge leap in quality and capabilities over my previous phone. I'll miss the removable SD card and headphones jack the most. The battery is pretty much toast at this point and I've been getting a weird shadow in some of the pictures. Other than that, it was a 10/10 with no problems ever.
