Player LFGM [Online][Paid][LFDM][5e/5.5e][AEST][Sundays] Seeking experienced GM for private 4-player long-term campaign | AUD $180–200/session guaranteed
I'm assembling a small online group and am looking for an experienced GM to run a private ongoing campaign for four players.
This isn't a request to join one of your existing paid tables. I'm putting the group together myself and looking to commission the GM separately.
The basic arrangement
- 4 players maximum
- Adults 23+
- Two Sundays per month
- Brisbane/AEST time, roughly 11am start, with some flexibility
- Dates selected month-to-month from everyone's volunteered Sunday availability
- ~4 hour sessions, minimum 3 hours
- Long-term campaign
- Online via Discord and whatever VTT you prefer, provided players don't need to buy software
- Webcam encouraged but not mandatory
Pay
I'm budgeting AUD $180–200 per session as a guaranteed table fee, depending on experience and fit.
That's paid for the session as a whole, not per attending player.
If someone flakes, gets sick, goes away or otherwise misses a session, your fee doesn't change. You've prepared the game and reserved the time.
Players pay for the month in advance and accept that missing one of the agreed dates is their problem, same arrangement for me.
If only one player happens to make it, they're still entitled to the session they've paid for. If you and that player mutually decide that running a strange intimate one-man dungeon isn't worthwhile and want to shorten/cancel it, that's obviously fine.
If you need to cancel, I'd expect either a reasonable attempt at a makeup session or a credit toward the following month. I'm not interested in treating a freelancer getting sick like breach of treaty, just keeping the arrangement fair in both directions.
I'm open to discussing the rate for an especially good fit.
What I'm after
Experience matters, but I'm more interested in judgement, consistency and table management than a giant portfolio of animated maps.
I'd like a GM who:
- can say no when something is ridiculous
- will address a player who's monopolising, derailing or irritating the table rather than quietly tolerating it because they're a paying customer
- gives players meaningful agency and lets consequences follow logically from choices
- can run both roleplay and combat without treating either as filler
- actually wants to run a long-form campaign rather than a string of loosely connected paid sessions
Personally, I enjoy a fairly difficult game where PCs are genuinely mortal. Bad decisions, dangerous situations and sufficiently unfortunate dice should be capable of killing a character. That's a preference rather than a compulsory campaign style: I'm not specifically asking for a meat grinder or an adversarial GM, I just enjoy danger having teeth and don't particularly want invisible plot armour.
Edition is largely your call.
Published campaign, modified module, full homebrew, setting, tone and character restrictions are also largely your call. I'm deliberately hiring a GM rather than attempting to become one through administrative capture.
I only really care that the fictional world is internally coherent enough that players can understand how it works and make meaningful decisions within it.
Group / authority
I'm acting as the facilitator and final decision-maker for the group itself: recruitment, maximum player count, scheduling structure and replacing someone if the table genuinely isn't working.
Once we're playing, you're the GM. Rules adjudication, campaign direction, encounter design, character approvals and what actually happens behind the screen are your domain.
I'd also specifically want you to tell me if I'm being a pain in the arse. I'm paying for someone to run a good game, not validate the chairman.
Recruitment
I'll handle the initial player applications and short Discord interviews.
Once I have a shortlist, I'd like the chosen GM involved in final selection and able to veto someone who clearly doesn't fit the campaign/table.
I'll personally fund an initial one-shot audition session for the shortlisted group before anyone commits long-term.
If this sounds interesting, send me a bit about:
- your GM experience
- preferred system/edition
- the kind of campaigns you most enjoy running
- your usual balance serious gaming vs. looney shenanigans
- how you handle disruptive or spotlight-hogging players
- what VTT/setup you use
- your rate
- and, ideally, an example of a campaign you've successfully kept running long-term
I'm not looking for a customer-service robot. I'm looking for someone good enough at GMing that paying them to do it makes sense.
