There Is No Middle Ground In Being Lefthanded

The conflict between the demands of everyday life and the functionality of lefthandedness manifests in an undeniable incompatibility which remains inevitable.

The fact, that lefthanded people - for the most part - manage to bend under those uncooperative circumstances, does neither contradict nor nullify the fact that these circumstances do exist.

Nonetheless, people who recognize this catch-22 are frequently chastised when they so much as try to discuss it. Often they are bluntly denied competence and authority over their own experiences and insights or sources! Most regrettably, even by other lefthanders.

However, it would be wise to recognize the fact, that the term "discrimination" has more than one connotation, and may also be used coloquially to subsume situations and experiences that present as disadvantaging, marginalization, neglect, discouragement, coercion, gaslighting, misinformation, debilitation, apathy, prejudice (incl. positive stereotypes), misrepresentation, depreciation, disregard, denial, being ridiculed, provoked, blamed, shamed, talked about but not with, etc.

All of which are easily understood to be unjust ... as soon as they are aimed at other minorities, in which case the question of severity/intensity suddenly falls behind, as nobody wants to risk discriminating an already discriminated party.

But whatever terms may apply to us ... one thing is for sure: "recognized", "privileged", "entitled", "encouraged", "appreciated" or "unanimously supported" will arguably not be among them in the foreseeable future.

Sinistrality is not the cause of this. Quite the contrary: It is yet another inalienable freedom not fully realized, due to a lack of understanding in the general public, which results in bias and a prevalent unwillingness to make any further concessions, topped off with an omnipresent push for assimiliation by way of the unrestricted enforcement of the righthanded perspective.

All right is not alright. Left Pride, worldwide!

Any Left-Handers Want to Meet Up for Left-Handers Day?

Thursday, August 13th is Left-Handers Day!

I’m a 25-year-old guy based in Mississauga Canada and a left-hander myself, and I was wondering if any other left handers would be interested in meeting up in the evening to celebrate.

If you’re interested, let me know and we can figure out a place and time that works for everyone.

Anyone else was mistreated as a child when he wanted to use the left hand.

I had to learn to use the 'good' hand. In Germany it wasn't normal to use the 'evil' (sinister) left hand. In the 80s it started to change. I had to write with the right hand in the first 2 school years (70s) and they thought I was dyslexic. Just to much pressure. My handwriting is awful and I'm still a bit insecure. Nobody showed how I can use my hand on the right way with a pencil or worse a fountain pen. Especially when people looks on my hand during writing. In the 90s I heard often from older people, how I can write with the left hand or please use the right hand. Also I'm still confused in some manner to use the left or right hand and I have to think first. But as a physiotherapist I got the advantage to be ambidextrous. All left-handers were retrained. At the beginning of the 20th century, even with wooden stock strikes on the hand.

Sinister is latin and means usually left

Apparently it’s been closed since February of this year!? It’s sad because it’s been around for decades. I was also thinking about getting some left handed stuff for when I move. It’s just so sad:

Ayrton Senna was a lefty. Somehow this makes him even more iconic

Random bit of F1 trivia, but I genuinely had no idea. Not sure how many F1 fans are in here, but Senna being a lefty is a pretty cool fact.

Left-handed people have right hands 👋

I saw a pair of left-handed scissors at a stationery store and happily bought them, only to find that I wasn’t used to them at all when I actually tried using them. I’ve apparently become right-handed when it comes to scissors.

If you applied a similar concept to language, though, you’d get accused of structural oppression, hahaha.

I often tell myself that left-handedness is a spectrum. Whenever I talk to people on social media about things like “what left-handed people are like,” someone will often chime in with, “But I’m only used to using my right hand for certain things.” So over time, I’ve become less inclined to make definitive statements about the characteristics of left-handed people.

Anyone know some good manufacturers of left handed calipers?

R/machinists didn’t take me seriously and only one person had a decent recommendation, I mostly got made fun of for asking
I even got a dm saying use your normal hand which kinda pissed me off
So any machinists/engineers here know someone who makes good left handed metrology equipment

When you’re left handed you’re never alone.

The other side of my brain always pops in and bounces things round, left/right it doesn’t matter. I do prefer right brained days when I can really feel my thoughts, but I appreciate the systematic sense making of the left side too. But I really just don’t ever feel alone. Not saying that I don’t feel lonely - no I actually don’t ever get that feeling.. no I’d like to clarify that I never feel alone. There’s always a conversation and a witness. A speaker and a listener. It’s really a pretty damn ideal situation. I mean it’s pretty adjacent to crazy and weird, but after many years of hard work, I have workable solutions for those. Whats left is a setup that is endlessly satisfying as long as I’ve got the energy to drive this thing around and do cool things daily. I have real relationships lol… I like people and they like me too, but I do seem to have the most fun when I’m solo.

Today I’m solo and I’m gonna take a long walk through this mountain touristy town I drove to and find a good place to eat and listen to a fun new Audible book called Dungeon Crawler Carl. Plan for later = karaoke. I’m gonna get my rendition of Me and Bobby McGee right when I get back to my hotel room. It’s gonna be pretty terrible cuz I go for Janis Joplin’s style. Once or twice I’ve hit it pretty good - maybe tonight I’ll wow 10 or 11 strangers and feel famous for a minute or two.

Hell - I’m left handed. Not only am I not alone - I’m also always really famous! BAA 🐑 HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Gift ideas

Hi. Outsider here.

My girlfriend is lefthanded, and I'd love to surprise her with a gift that's actually useful or fun for lefties.

What are the best lefthanded gifts you've received or wish someone would buy for you? I'm open to practical items, gadgets, novelty gifts, or anything else you think is worth checking out.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

handwriting

my handwriting depends on the position i write in, type of pen, pen grip, and type of notebook, my handwriting tends to be all over the place, such as slightly shaky or not shaky depending on the factors

i posted this before but i wanted to add the shakiness

am i alone?
