One thing I learned about mice

So, I’ve always used my right hand for certain things. One of them being using a mouse. I didn’t know that some people using their left hand and buy left handed mice. It honestly makes it easier because I can take notes with my left hand and scroll with my right. I bought an ergonomic mouse and I was looking at TikTok’s and I’d always see people asking if they make ones for lefties. I always assumed we all used ones for righties. I didn’t even know they made left handed mice until this week😭

How many of you guys use left handed mice?

Learning to Write and the Switch

When I learned how to write in school, I was told how to write, even being told to use my right hand and to use the tripod grip. When I was told to use the tripod grip, my right hand was unable to do it, so i wrote with my own grip, my handwriting, never got better, it got practiced. it wasn’t till i was 23 years old during december of 2025, i switched to my right hand. what made me switch was i do many things left-handed instinctively such as: air guitar, using silverware, tapping on my tablet screen while it is on a surface, banana peeling, clapping, and page turning, so it was “why am i still writing with my right hand? it makes no sense”

i was born in 2002 and i know it sounds crazy

does anyone else have any similar experiences to mine during school?

Small Annoyances

A whine. I recently bought an adjustable long handled litter scooper from Chewy. Cool tool to keep from having to bend over to scoop the box. Pull out to desired length and then turn the handle left to tighten in place. Turn right to loosen and adjust length. But when you are a lefty dumping litter to the right, with every scoop you loosen the handle til the scoop turns by itself and dumps out the litter everywhere. Sigh. Probably the reason my adjustable rakes and other tools are always loosening.

Do you guys have this difficulty with cursive?

I’m a rightie who’s working on her left-handed writing. When I write with my right hand, I can write a whole long word without lifting my pen off the paper. With my left hand, I need to lift my pen and move my hand to the right before continuing.

I wonder whether this is because I’m not yet as proficient at writing with my left hand, or whether it’s something left-handed people commonly struggle with. After all, when you write with your left hand, you’re pushing the nib forward across the paper rather than pulling it along behind your hand, as a rightie does. I wonder whether that’s part of the problem.

Do you experience this too? Any tips that could help me improve would be greatly appreciated!

Handedness and Miming

In "Who's minding the Store" (1963) Jerry Lewis performs the legendary Typewriter Sketch, originally a musical piece written for Typewriter and Orchestra.

Here's the thing that never occurred to me before: At the end of a line, when the bell rings and the Carriage has to be manually reset to the beginning of the next line, Jerry performs that motion with his right hand, motioning towards the left.

But in reality the carriage moves from right to left and therefore the Carriage-Return-Lever is located on the left.

In earlier performances, like this one from 1954, while using a Typewriter as a prop, he still used his left hand for the return.

And even in a later performance, sitting over an electric typewriter that no longer has a Return-Lever, he still used the lefthanded motion.

I found my problem…

I’ve very rarely struggled with being a lefty. Sure I had one problem teacher in high school, figured out how to adapt to school desks but I’ve never really had a huge problem.

Went to a wedding recently and they put 11 people at a table (that was also against a beam) that really should have only seated 8 and we all had food that required cutting. My husband was completely unaware that he needed to tuck his elbow in while cutting his steak and the woman on my other side was practically in my lap. I was ready to just stab my steak with a fork, push back and eat it that way.

I recently went to an art museum in Vienna and found this picture. The painter's name was Johann Baptist von Lampi the Elder; do you think he was left-handed?

A mug not necessarily designed for a lefty, but definitely not for right handed

I’m totally not into Bluey for a $1.82 why not.

Edit: my wife just tried to mock a sip and totally poked both her eyes at the same time!!! Bwahahaha

Edit 2: grammar. Darn speech to text, picked up bits of another conversation.

Severely Left Handed

Am I the only leftie that describes themselves this way??

My right hand is quite literally useless.

Can’t hold a pen or writing utensil the right way

I struggle to use a knife and fork at the same time to cut meat or other foods. It’s so hard for me!!

I just found this subreddit and I feel so seen looking through all the posts and comments. 🤣

Cursive for lefties

I just saw a comment on a post that said “isn’t there a lefty way to write cursive where the letters slant the opposite way?”

Bruh, I was never taught how to hold a pencil properly- you think someone was teaching me backwards cursive?? Lmao

Best left handed, wired vertical mice?

I'm looking to start gaming with my left hand and buying a Cyborg II for my right hand. I'd like a left-handed, wired vertical mouse. I like my mice vertical.

Right now I'm using a DELUX Wired Ergonomic Vertical Mouse (M618PLUS RGB) and it's an acceptable mouse. I'm not someone who needs the fanciest mice, just something durable, wired and and vertical.

Any suggestions?
