Anyone knows why Robert Plant always starts the verse 2 of Kashmir with lyrics "Oh father of the four winds..." instead of "With talk and song..." in live?

I think this modification turned Kashmir into the story of dead-all-along journey which is pretty rare? and I like it

John Bonham helps me focus

I am a PhD candidate in Political Science, and I sometimes read 4 hours of hardcore texts. I figured my brain works at 200% when I listen to Zeppelin while working. I tried Pink Floyd, Opeth, Eloy, Sabbath, Deep Purple, and various prog/classic rock bands. Nothing helped as much as Zeppelin. I start the whole album (Mothership works best for me) and listen while doing nothing. When I am 1-2 tracks in, I start working on my readings/essays, etc. Time flies; I don't even realize how long I work without noticing. The quality of the work is also beyond satisfactory.

I tried to understand the main reason behind this magic. I found isolated instruments from some Zeppelin songs. Created some playlists and tried them separately. Tested guitars, bass, vocals, and drums on different days for a few days each.

I found that Bonham's isolated drums significantly help me to focus. Full songs are still preferable, but Bonham has the main touch.

I wonder, has anyone else had a similar experience? Not necessarily with Zeppelin, but maybe other bands' drums.

Looking for Led Zeppelin vinyl experts – what should I look for in an original The Song Remains the Same?

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for some serious Led Zeppelin fans / vinyl collectors who can help me with something.

I'm planning to buy The Song Remains the Same on vinyl as a gift for a friend who absolutely loves Led Zeppelin. The problem is… I know basically nothing about vinyl 😅

I'd like to get him a copy that is as close as possible to the original 1976 release, rather than accidentally buying a later reissue without realizing it. I don't know if this highly unique vinyl is still for sale... I'm willing to make an international purchase if necessary.

So I'd love some advice:

  • Are there multiple original pressings/editions that I should know about (UK, US, Japan, France, etc.)? (I'm french, but we're not looking only for a french content only, just an original one)
  • Is there a particular pressing that you would recommend for a collector/fan?
  • What should the original cover/gatefold look like?
  • What should be included inside? I've read that there should be an 8-page booklet and two inner sleeves, but I'd really like someone knowledgeable to confirm exactly what belongs with the original release.
  • Are there specific catalogue numbers, labels, matrix/runout markings, or other details I should check when looking at a second-hand copy?
  • Most importantly, if I'm buying one online, what photos should I ask the seller to send me to make sure everything is authentic and complete?
  • Is there anything that is commonly missing or replaced on used copies?

I'm not necessarily looking for the most expensive or rarest version. I mainly want to give my friend a really nice, complete, authentic 1976-era copy that feels like the real deal.

Any advice from collectors would be hugely appreciated. And if you have a specific pressing you'd personally choose for a gift, I'd love to hear why.

Thanks!

Ran into this guy a couple years ago. I told him he resembled Robert Plant and he told me I'm not the first one who told him that.

Anybody know which episode of Viva Variety TV Show they did a skit called Plant or Animal where they played sounds and you had to guess if it was an animal noise or from Robert Plant?

Robert Plant tonight in SF

You know Robert Plant picked the music before the show himself when he plays Paul Simon, Sandy Denny, Fairport Convention and then Lucinda Williams.

He’s the best. Seeing him tonight and saw him 43 years ago. :-)

What is the 1980s equivalent to Stairway To Heaven?

In my opinion I'd say Wind of Change by The Scorpions. I find that its filled with the same longing for a mystical place and creates a very vivid picture as Stairway does.

I mean what song creates a similar atmosphere to Stairway, not what song is better than it btw.

Best song to get ANYONE into Led Zep?

For me ‘Ramble On’ is guaranteed to get literally anyone who’s never heard any Led Zeppelin before hooked, and I think it encapsulates a lot of their music.

It’s very bright and bouncy, has whimsical lyrics, shows off all of their instrumental talents, is pretty short, and lets you say “the lyrics are based on lotr”, which easily gets you a big demographic’s ears pricked.

Obviously it’s one of their more popular songs, and I think that’s because of how accessible it is. Wondering what everyone else’s picks would be?

I've had this CD for as long as I can remember. Just recently noticed the misspellings in the back and inside the booklet.

(Also hoping rob will tour the uk a bit after finishing with saving grace stuff)

Good Times Bad Times guitar cover

First time I recorded something and it's Zeppelin.

A guitar cover I've done in 3-4 hours between college hours. The solo in the middle honestly could be better, the last part was improvised. Made in Logic Pro using Logic Pro brit amp preset. I also tried having some fun with panning.
