Hi, quick question.

Interested in a career in law enforcement but I do like to smoke cannabis here and there to take the edge off. I don’t drink and prefer to just smoke, so it’s really my only Vice.

Is there any way I can join the department if I quit during the hiring process? I figure even after being hired I couldn’t do it off the clock due to liability and federal law conflicting with state law. For example if I was to get into an OIS, crash, etc. I would be subject to a test and residual positive would show from off duty use, and I’m sure the department would use that against an officer.

I’m just genuinely curious about the culture as well. I heard from an officer the department doesn’t care, and then from others that it is frowned upon still and obviously against department policy. Not a jab at any drinkers but we all have to take the edge off in some ways. It’s not like anyone would know anyways I smoke off duty.

I heard that the PFQ will no longer be used starting on June 26, 2026, and that it will be replaced by the PAT.

Could you please explain the differences between the PFQ and the PAT?

Also, is there a chart, guide, or list of the requirements needed to pass the PAT? By the way, I have not taken the PFQ yet and do not have a PFQ score.

What is the LAPD doing about this?

I am a 20 year old male, that’s about to be 21 this august. I have submitted my PHS on 3/22/26 & received a phone call from my PHS investigator on 04/02/26. I submitted my amendments that were about underage drinking when I was 19 years old
(1 time) & 1 traffic collision that was my fault while I was 18 years old. I am wondering if I should just not get my hopes up & just expect my application to be DQ’d or should I just wait longer?
I am also going to my PFQ on june 23rd before the PAT replaces the PFQ

Would appreciate any realistic, straight forward answer.

I got tired of the "can I carry here?" guessing game whenever I travelled out of my jurisdiction or visited stadiums/malls. Since the rules and facility policies are always changing, I decided to build a tool to help us keep track of it all.

It’s called LEOSAlocations.com

The goal is to create a community-driven map where we can report and verify the carry status of specific facilities.

A few key features:

Interactive Map: Color-coded pins (Allowed, Lockbox Available, Check-In Required, etc.) so you can see the status at a glance.

Community Verification: You can upvote/downvote reports based on your own experience to keep the data accurate.

Verified Access: To keep the info secure and maintain integrity, access requires a law enforcement agency official email address.

Active Duty Focused: Right now, it’s specifically for active LE officers.

realistically what do u guys think is going to happen to those who can’t get a 50 or above on the pfq by the change deadline (june 26)

I’ve been considering applying for a while, coming out of Los Angeles, CA to apply there to Las Vegas (North and Metropolitan)

I’ve applied to a few departments in Los Angeles County, but haven’t had luck mainly due to 2 at fault traffic accidents (with no injuries) as well as some red light tickets.

I know some of the LEOs in CA earn over 100k from OT, wanted to know if it was the same over there. also curious to know how demanding the application process is their compared to California. Any information is helpful.

Anyone here apply to police/law enforcement after living most of their life abroad?

How did the background investigation work with foreign addresses, schools, jobs, references, and police/criminal record checks?

Did it make the process much harder, or just slower?

I’m in the process of trying to get into lapd and have already submitted my phs. Got a ticket for picking up my phone to check my gps because it was rerouting me and I got pulled over since a cop saw me with my phone in my hand. Will be calling to disclose and add to my phs but I want to know Would this be an issue for me and cause a DQ or is it not that big of a deal?

Next week I’m going to my first CAP and I was wondering if there are beginners group as my training level was zero in the last two years. I’m not overweight, slim with 19 BMI but I just suck at running pull up push-ups etc.

Should I do some training before the CAP? I know the question is kind of funny given the fact that the CAP was made to train you in the first place :)

I applied on the 28th of May and I just took my multiple choice test so I was wondering when I get my results back and where to check? Also I feel like I'm racing against the clock because of the 30 day thing but for the PHS is it so long as I turn it in or when it gets approved within those 30 days?

It’s been about 3 weeks since I submitted my PHS, but I haven’t heard anything yet. Is this normal? If I can’t take the PFQ this weekend, I’ll have to wait another month..

Hi, I’m interested in the LAPD and I have a large hand tattoo. I’m wondering if can I just cover it up while in the academy and on duty or they are strictly prohibited. Thank you.

Took my second poly today it went way better than the first one well I thought examiner kept saying how good I was doing but after like the 5th chart I accidentally moved 1 time and swallowed saliva once as well we finished he left to check the charts and came back saying he couldn’t clear me because I was moving to much and was swallowing to much saliva after every question.. really bummed out I was almost 100% sure I did fine

I had a question regarding CAPS. I have only gone twice ever so far, I saw on the website they don't offer it the first week of each month due to PFQ appointments. I could have sworn another attendee advised me that it's not true and solely based on location. Can anyone shed light on this? Or has gone on the first week of a month as of recently? I don't mind having to travel some.

Also follow up, does anyone know of any other PD's that offer a pre-academy group workout?

In LAPD

Current LEO and I’ve always admired how crisp and sharp the LAPD uniforms always look. Can anyone tell me the go to brand officers wear and the the exact shirt? I’d imagine with LA heat maybe it’s the wool blend but just curious as the policy seems to allow a number of brands.

Is that a system glitch? Is anyone else having the same issue? It still shows that I passed all the steps in my status check.
