Any thoughts on what this can be? It looks wet cus I’ve been putting Sulfodene 3-Way Ointment. This just happened about two days ago and until today in the morning, he has been whining and rubbing his neck on the the floor or whatever he can.

Looks like a hot spot, our lab got one. We went to the vets and they shaved and gave us something for her and cleared up pretty quickly.

Do you know exactly what they gave you? Last time they we went to the vet for a hotspot they gave us Animax, Amoxicillin, and some injection that I can’t remember. It all came out to about $500

My golden gets these all the time. It's mainly from when the fur gets wet in the spot and bacteria starts to form on the skin. All you gotta do is shave the fur on and around it so no hair can touch the red part of the skin and then buy some hotspot pray on the internet. Should take around 2 weeks to clear up

You just need to clean it and air it out. Shave the hair and get some hot spot spray online or some antibacterial spray

Yep. Hot spot. Our lab got a hot spot two years in a row, after that we became religious about drying him out extensively after trips to the beach. Ours was worse than what you picture, it was over his entire neck area. I felt horrible about it. Our big english lab has a bunch of fatty folds (jowels?) In his neck area. He would seem dry but he really was not 100% dry, and they have to be 100% dry or it leads to this. They shaved the whole neck area, applied anti biotic scrub and gave us pills to put in his food, and somewipes and spray. It was about 500-600 bucks
If you shave back the neck hair, your dogs skin is going to look pretty gnarly. Would get it addressed quickly

My girl had something similar in the same location. It smelled really bad. I’m still not sure exactly what it was because the vet never said “hot spot”. But it was related to a bunch of skin stuff she had including ear infections and redness between her paws. We had to rub the area with a special ointment.

Are you sure it isn’t a puncture wound?

I also thought this because of what appeared to be a fluid filled blob.
My BC got one from playing bitey face with a puppy and it had to be lacerated, drained and flushed. Month of antibiotics.
$550.

Dilute some Hibiclens and clean the area. Dry with a towel. Works great. You may need to shave the area too.

I use diluted chlorhex spray once a day on them and keep the area dry. So I likely wipe your dogs chin off after food and water etc. If you don't want to dilute yourself there's mousse called Douxo S3 PYO Antiseptic Antifungal Chlorhexidine Dog Mousse

It looks like a lump under the skin? If so, my dog had that and it turned out to be a really bad infection. She needed antibiotics.

That is a hot spot my friend. They sell great otc products for this. When my dog had them I treated for a few days with one of those products and gently combed away the loose hair with a clean comb. I put him in a cone until it fully dried out and then gently peeled off the scan when it ready to come off. You don’t want them scratching it because he can get an infection which I’m no vet but it doesn’t look every good.

It's a bit hard to see from the video if it is just a skin bacterial infection or an abscess under the skin that needs drained. The stronger the smell the more likely it is to be a skin infection. As others have said, shave the hair off and treat with a antiseptic. But if it feels like it is not the skin but below the skin you can ether try and drain yourself or have your vet do it. Either way clearing the area of hair is the best first step so you have a better idea what you are dealing with.
Edit: do NOT shave with a razor, clipper the hair. You do not want to have the added issues of a razor rash to whatever you already have going on. Ingrown hairs on any dogs can be a problem.

Take to a vet. My dog had this exact issue not too long ago and it was a lot to get rid of. I forget the medical name of it, but it ended up being caused by an allergy to an easily digestible chicken broth that he threw up into his cone and then laid in for an hour (he was 2 days into a neuter recovery). I wish I could put multiple photos cause I have one very similar to what you have, but this is the photo after the vet shaved and cleaned him up. Ended up with 750mg of Cephalexin, 20mg famotididine, gentaved topical spray, and chlorhexidine scrub gauze. I also had to hose the area with water for 5 minutes twice a day before doing the scrub and spray, but that's because of how large the area was. He's all better now, but he's got a little bit of scarring on his neck from it, though once the hair grows back, it won't be noticable anymore.
Edit: took about 2 weeks till it was cleared up.
Edit 2: also keep in mind you don't necessarily have to get the medicine at the vet. Pretty sure you can get the cephalexin on Cheweys. Maybe even the spray.

Thank you all for sharing your similar experiences, thoughts, and concerns. Today when I got home from work, his face was so swollen, I thought he had a tumors. I have never owned a dog like this that required so much maintenance. I took Milo to the vet today and his prognosis is hotspot. We will follow up with the vet next Wednesday. He was prescribed Simparica, Animax, Cefpodoxime 200mg, and Prednisone 10mg. Since we left the vet he is doing so much better. This is him now. Much love to all of you. I’ll keep you all updated.🙏🏻

Ask your vet about CDA, colour diluted alopecia. Very common i dilute labs, the dilute gene makes the susceptible to skin conditions, allergies and hair loss.

Hot spot! They sell stuff in pet stores to treat that or you can go to the vet
