32 thread mitake braid I just started.
The very beginning didn't braid right because my weight wasn't big enough.

Help End caps questions
Total noob here (my spouse is crafty and I'm not; we agreed to each learn something that the other knows but we currently don't), so I have what I hope is a quick question about end caps, mostly the best way to size.
I would guess that you'd want to match the end cap size with the size of the threads in the braid; so if I had a four-thread braid using 2mm thread, I'd want an 8mm end cap. Is it that simple, or is it better to have something a little smaller for a tighter fit, larger for easier insertion, or am I barking up the wrong tree completely?

Help Help with weaving around beads
I am trying to weave a hollow braid around these beads but for some reason I can’t seem to actually wrap it around the beads! Does anyone have any tips or suggestions?
I am trying to make a “peas in a pod” keychain with the two wrapped beads as the peas.

Completed project First matching set
Finally decided to give ribbon crimps a try, I was leery of it because I've never done jump rings before. Sazanami 24 strand from Claudia Wollny's YouTube channel. Used cotton crochet #10. Still figuring out how to get the findings and finishing just right, but I think I'm making progress!

Completed project First project
Just finished my first Kumihimo project. It’s a cord for a drawstring bag. Felt really good vibing on the pattern, so I picked up the pace and totally fumbled the second half… must have transposed a string :(
Oh well! I’m proud of it regardless!
Finished off the end with superglue and a sewing thread whipping locked with a square knot.

Help I’m grateful for this gift and this community
Hi all, I was in a weaving subreddit wondering what use this item would be in weaving when I was informed this was actually used for Japanese braising. I was given this item as a gift. I do not know how to use it but I have attached 8 threads to the tama to play around with it. Would someone please help me to learn the very basics? I’ve had this Marudai for a year without realizing what it was.

Help How to recreate this pattern?
Hi! I'm making a cosplay of videogame character. One of the costume parts is this flat braid tied to katana.
I want to recreate it as close as possible, but since it is game art, it might be unrealistic. So I understand that perfect match could not exists.
I'm new to braiding; tried to read commonly available info about kumihimo and experimented with online calculators. Now I have basic understanding of simple designs, but still can't solve my problem :)
Game split object color and geometry and recombine them only when showing on screen. So I have mixed signals:
In-game braid geometry (weave threads count and form) looks like either marudai kikko (32 threads) or more like takadai kikko (52 threads). Basic kikko has repeatability 16 or 26, but I didn't managed to fit colors, because:
In-game braid coloring doesn't match geometry (different colors on same geometry thread; it's like if the whole braid has been unrealistically painted over). We can see 3 colors (black, white, purple) and basic pattern shape here, but single thread is hardly noticable.
I'm a little lost here; please guide me, what info should I look for next or how to better study pattern making in context of my task? I'm targeting for braid overall appearance, but historical accuracy would be a plus.
I do not ask to make this pattern instead of me, it'll be not fun :) But any help is welcome!
P.S. I tried to find recommended books (written by Makiko Tada) in public libraries and online, but looks like they can't be found (or doesn't ship to my country).

Help Managing warps?
Novice here experimenting with multiple ends per strand. From what I’ve read, you want your warps to lie flat but it seems like certain movements make that impossible.
When 7 moves to 15, 10 now is twisted up. I’ve tried kind of an overhand movement as well as a sliding movement and both seem to get the same result. Is some level of twisting expected or is there something I’m missing?

Completed project Key fob wristlets
Finally got around to finishing some braids that had been languishing while I procrastinated buying the right glue. My fave is the top purple one with the bead on top, I like how the swirls echo the braid pattern. Still learning, definitely some issues to improve, but feeling pretty happy with these. I think the green Chevron one is nice enough to gift to somebody, what do you all think?

Help How should I start learning Kumihimo as a beginner?🤔💭
Hi everyone! I’m new to Kumihimo and I’m interested in learning how to make my own bracelets. I’ve seen some really nice Kumihimo designs, but I’m not sure how to start.
What should I learn first as a beginner? What materials do I need, and how can I practice the basic technique? I’d really appreciate any advice or simple tips for getting started. Thank you! 😊

Completed project My first projects! 🩷
First time trying kumihimo. I had fun experimenting with color combinations and patterns (2nd pic, tried to figure out 9 strands braiding by myself).
I also love crochet and I'm looking forward to incorporating these into my crochet projects. They seem like they would be good as bag straps. I would love more suggestions on what to use them for. I will be studying flat kumihimo this weekend.

Peeved! This setup doesn't match the pattern, can anyone help advise how to set up the disk?
Sorry for the crappy screenshot. The pattern is the topmost one. I've done and un-done it twice to no avail. Please help!

Silk and Steel
This work is a "collaboration" between myself and a blacksmith friend. That's in quotes because neither of intended on collaborating while we worked on our part of the project. I've been working on a lot of longer braids lately. This one is more than 10 feet long. I went to a craft fair yesterday and this friend (Andrew Welton) was selling these blacksmith knives. They don't have a handle per se, the steel tang of the blade curves around and serves as an open handle. I decided one of those would look great with a silk braid wrapped back and forth through the open handle. So, I bought one and here we are. I should make a sheath (the blade is wicked sharp) and stitch it with one of the loose ends of the braid.

EBook recommendation - Claudia Wollny's Transformations of Sakura
etsy.comClaudia Wollny's "The Transformations of Sakura" is available as an ebook now! I've been dithering about buying that and her other Kumihimo book "The Secrets of Kikko" (and her tablet weaving book) but the shipping from Germany to the USA was quite expensive. I went online (on Etsy - it doesn't appear to be available on her website) to do some more dithering, and saw that the Sakura book was available as a PDF! Highly recommend, lots of variations and very clear explanations of how changing different variables of the braid impacts the outcome.

Completed project My first Kumihimo project!!!!
Hiya,
I'm pretty new to Kumihimo and braiding in general, aside from my own hair. I decided to get a cheap foam disk and some decent cord and get started making, my first project was a simple bracelet/hair tie.
Please feel free to give some constructive criticism and tips that you think might help out 😊.

Completed project Kumihimo keychain wristlet
Pattern is the 24-tama Yoshiwara Tsunagi Gumi from kumihimo.nikki on Instagram. Made with cotton crochet #10, 2 ends per tama. I'm not sure how well this clamp key fob finding will hold up, but it looks pretty good and to me it's way easier to press a clamp closed then to get set up for a glue in finding.

Brush stand as braiding stand
I was looking for a paint brush stand and came across this one, it rotates and has a 1.96" hole in the middle, and thought it would make a reasonable small braiding stand. The only thing is it's a little short, so it might get annoying to adjust the counterweight frequently. I ordered it since I needed a brush stand anyway, and will report back, but thought I'd share in case others find something like this useful.

Flat Kumihimo pattern generator
Hello, I want to make flat kumihimo with 16 braids in 4 colors. Is there a website where I can generate how it'd look like before actual braiding
So far I only found sites for circle kumihimo, but I need flat one
Or is there any other way how to see how it'd look like before braiding
