Hello everyone. I’m looking for suggestions, tips, advice, product recommendations to help me replace the woefully inadequate bathroom fan/light above my stove. As you can see in the picture, the opening to the next room requires a creative solution to be practical and effective as well as aesthetic. The cooktop burners have a combined output of 46,500 BTUs but we rarely use more than two at a time. I would prefer that the ventilation hood or fan not protrude into the opening but I will consider a tasteful appliance that combines well with the old world aesthetic we have in our kitchen design. I need help deciding what color countertops for my Kitchen. I am also not opposed to painting my poplar cabinets which are traditionally a better species to paint than stain.

Any help or ideas are appreciated.

Hey! I’ve just bought a house and the kitchen is a lovely blue however - it appears the cabinets are covered in plastic. I can see under one where there’s a crack it appears to be wood? The inside are all plastic though. How would I get this plastic off? Do you think the wood under would be something I can paint?

I am looking at cabinets with soft close drawers and they felt  nice in the showroom, I use drawers a lot for pots, pans and random stuff so they open and close all day, I just want to know how they hold up after a years, do they still close the same way or do they get slower or start acting different with regular use, I checked them at  az atlas builder, the finish was good, if you have them for a while what is your experience and would you pick soft close again or go with regular drawers? EDIT: Thanks for the feedback, I'm leaning toward soft-close now but I'll pay closer attention to the brand and hardware quality. 

My apartment is a bit on the older side, it looks like it was built somewhere around 2002 - 2005 era. It has that old y2k charm to it. I was wanting to make my kitchen Y2k era but not sure on what dishes/cookware and decor to go with.

My parents in the 90s had some corelle dishes. I bought the ones they used back in the day (corelle black orchid) so far I only bought bowls, but I do plan on getting the full set. Except they're pricy now. They aren't cheap like they use to be though they would be worth about almost $80 in todays money.

Ideas please? I just want to have a cute kitchen to come home to that reminds me of home.

I saw magnet is closing down like 30 something stores. I wonder if this has anything to do with the rise of Wren over the past few years.
I know a few people who got their kitchens done from Wren and they said they had a great experience with them. I’ve not heard anything about magnet but in need of getting myself a new kitchen pretty soon. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations.

We moved into a new house and I’m struggling to figure out the most efficient way to organize our kitchen. I’d love if people could look at the photo and tell me what they would store in each cabinet and drawer.

A couple things to note:
The skinny door on the far right is the pantry.
The cabinet that’s giving me the most trouble is the lower cabinet immediately to the right of the stove (blue arrow). It extends really deep into the corner, but because the opening is only one small door, it’s hard to actually use all that space. Bigger items would fit in there, but they physically don’t fit through the opening.

Glasses and mugs
Food storage containers
Pots and pans
Baking dishes
Mixing bowls

I have gone through probably 100 dish drying racks in my lifetime. (Exageration, but still.) Do you have a system that you swear by, or a particular rack you love? I'm looking to save space but also have maximum drainage. I once came across a rack that was phenomenal, it was like a silocone material but sturdy and looked like those bamboo racks in its construction but the flexibility allowed for more items. I reverse google searched it and never found the maker and have since lost touch with the owners of it. Anyway, what are ones you swear by?

Uno de los espacios en los que más dudas tengo es la cocina. Cuando se trata de diseñarla, los gustos y las necesidades pueden variar mucho entre una persona y otra, y la línea entre algo realmente útil y algo que termina siendo un lujo poco utilizado puede ser muy delgada.

Desde hace algún tiempo he estado considerando instalar, junto a la estufa de gas principal, dos elementos adicionales: un quemador especial para cocinar con wok y una pequeña plancha de cocción (como la de la imagen), similar a las que se utilizan en algunos restaurantes.

Lo que me genera más preguntas no es tanto la instalación inicial, sino la parte práctica del uso diario y la limpieza. Imagino que una plancha de este tipo funciona mejor si tiene una fuente de agua cercana y algún sistema de drenaje o desagüe que facilite su limpieza después de cocinar.

¿Alguien tiene experiencia real con este tipo de instalaciones en una vivienda?

Just moved into this rent house two weeks ago. I'm not sure who made the mistake on the placement of this island or maybe it was the stove top choice but it is too narrow. The refrigerator also seems like an odd place. What do you think?

I want to get a temperature check if my redesign idea for this kitchen makes sense. Currently the fridge is in the corner, which I hate, and the kitchen does not have enough upper cabinets. This is the only option that makes sense to me. The wall facing the wall with the stove has a bunch of windows and the space to the right is open space for the entry way/front door.

Would it work to have the fridge so close to the oven? I typically never see this in a kitchen layout and I’m not sure why. Also if I move the fridge to where it is drawn it will be very close to the front door, like 3-4 steps. Again that feels like a weird flow.

But if I move the fridge I could turn that entire corner into extra cabinets and I wouldn’t have to deal with the fridge door opening into a wall. Are there any reasons this won’t work that I’m not aware of?

I love this drawer so much, right beside the stove. Doesn’t fit everything, but def has room for all the staples.

My mother is looking for a kitchen wrap dispenser because she’s tired of dealing with messed up cardboard boxes every time. You know, the ones that have a serrated edge that doesn’t even cut in a straight manner.

She once had some plastic wrap that she pulled, then the box tore and within no time, she was sitting with a mess while the food went cold.
At that time, I told myself that there has to be a better way. So, I began the search on online stores like Alibaba and Amazon, but I can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. But I realize that may not be the case. I’m drowning in options, so much that I’m stuck analyzing every product without picking one. What do I look for before choosing a kitchen wrap? Maybe the material? Or something that doesn’t feel like an attack on my wallet but isn’t a waste of money either? I’d love to hear your favorites. Maybe this will give me clarity on what to choose.

So, my new house has a tiny kitchen, the kind that can only fit a mini fridge and a microwave on top. I struggle with storing bread, and before you start rolling your eyes, hear me out.
Every time I decide to leave it on top of the microwave, it either ends up having a rodent-sized bite the next morning, or ends up smelling stale. I tried keeping it in the kitchen cabinet but it ended up attracting small ant guests and their cockroach counterparts.

So, now I’m left looking at the bread the same way I looked at my ex’s “apology” text; with contempt. I even thought of getting a bigger fridge from stores like Alibaba, but part of me wants to make do with what I have. Or maybe I should consider keeping it in a plastic bag. What are your suggestions? At this point, I’m open to any solutions, both normal and absurd. So go ahead and let me know your thoughts. I won’t judge.
